So you're saying that men couldn't ve decent even back in those days? What about the farmer guy that Arya and the Hound met?
Or the traveler Jamie told Brienne he'd have to kill, what do you know about him. Laenor? He was a good man, even Daemon respected that he was "a good man and a fine knight", and we could go on. Daeron the Daring is often regarded as a solid kid as well
Ned Stark wasn't an evil man by any means, we could go on.
Keep in mind, someone's interactions with the opposite sex isn't the only indicator of their personality. Yes, women in 95% of Westeros had little rights, doesn't mean all the men are guilty of abuses that some other men may do.
Just cause women in Dorne have more rights than other women in Westeros doesn't suddenly make all Dornish men "decent dudes", does it? Keep that in mind as well

I have wondered several times, since reading F&B, if the war had never happened- how would Daemon feel knowing his trueborn sons & daughters were only going to inherit _after_ three bastards- yes, two of them became his good-sons (sons-in-law)- so the children his daughters have with them are also tied to him by blood, but where does that leave Young Aegon & Young Viserys?
Surely Daemon- the man who according to GRRM, is 'Equal parts light & dark'- would contemplate the matter?

Oberyn wasn't a swordsman but, with a Spear.. he was unmatched. Just like they did with Barristan Selmy where he makes the minor threat of "I could cut through all five of you like carving a cake" Would've been very much been a scary thing to be told.. Because any and everyone knew even at his age.. 10-15 men properly wouldn't be enough because he was an artist with with a sword...In the same way Oberyn Martel looked way more menacing in his gladiator looking armor, with immensely detailed and beautiful ornated spears, he was usually so skilled he was seen "playing" with his food, no one stood a match to him, so he never gave his all. He lost due to Hubris. In the same way Damon, was way more feared than what was let on on the show. 3:18- I wouldn't call it balls as Much as I would stupidity...

Adapting this relatively small section of Fire and blood into HOTD was never going to be easy. The writers have managed to incorporate some of Mushroom's version of events and really, none of the 3 versions of this history can be trusted. Even though the book highly favours the Greens, the reader reads between the lines, so I suspect most of us were team Black.

Bloodraven was after this time; Aegon IV was his father - the first _known_ Master of Whisperers was actually Maegor's mysterious 3rd wife- Tyanna, from Pentos- but I don't doubt for a second that there were spymasters in Aegon's Court- both pre-& post-Conquest; it's just that setting up the systems that exist by present-day were likely to have been under different names/ titles - 'Hand of the King' didn't exist before Aegon granted the title to Orys- but there were obviously leading advisors to kings- that were held in higher regard than any other, before this point.
It's interesting that two of the most central roles in royal government have been known to have been held by women at different times; along with Tyanna before this time, Mysaria will go on to become Rhaenyra's Mistress of Whisperers - & later on, there will be two Mistresses of Coin (though these are unofficial, by virtue of their husbands in the positions, specifically because _they_ were needed for the role)...

And protecting someone you're essentially responsible for, from poor decision-making would have been- what?
It was pretty apparent he was into her; she gave him an 'in' by propositioning him. Yes, he _could_ have turned her down- & arguably *should* have- but he didn't.
Any guilt he feels is rather secondary to him getting his end away, with someone he's been attracted to for several years - the only thing that "ruins" it, in his view, is Rhaenyra's pragmatism in the aftermath.
But his bitterness in this scenario, doesn't even make sense; she's **heir to the throne** - he *knows* that- he also knows that she would *_by necessity_* have to make a marriage of state- & as a Kingsguard (& much lower noble birth than she would have been expected to marry- even if she were _not_ heir) he knows that will NEVER be him; he's been by her side for years now- we saw scenes of them, with Rhaenyra expressing her sense of conflict - her refusing to 'run away' with him couldn't be seen as sudden, unexpected, or out of the blue- he's more than aware of her conflict, _but_ he should also be aware that she was **never** going to abandon home, duty, & position - *_his_* attitude is the unrealistic one, here.
I still wonder if they shouldn't have gone with a different combination of events, if they wanted Cole to have the 'moral high ground'; him refusing her- as he supposedly did in one of the book-scenarios, & in a cloud of humiliation & rage- dismisses him as her Shield, goes back to having Lord Commander Westerling, as her Shield.
Then, has another flirtation-filled encounter with Ser Harwin, who strikes her fancy (though her father's made it clear now, that she must marry Laenor- whose orientation is an open secret) - he's not slow on the uptake & is more than willing to accept the limits of their relationship; she gets him appointed as her Sworn Shield - Cole, knowing exactly _why_ this has happened- & now thoroughly disenchanted with the little princess he'd previously served honourably & loyally, is now irrevocably against her- as one of her most deadly foes...
Not perfect- but it makes much more sense than what I saw on the show...

I really dislike the man. His relationship with Nyra brought a LOT of harm to her and the targs in the long run. Luckily the three strong bastards died before they could sit on the throne.

The children are not to blame for the actions of the parents…and certainly didn’t deserve to die young. Harwin’s relationship with Rhaenyra was entirely consensual and they appeared to truly love each other. He brought her love, joy, happiness, and 3 sons who were good, caring young men. ‘Bastards’ or not, they would’ve been better kings than Alicent’s RAPIST son Aegon II.

@@carastone3473i prefer royal bastards when they own up to what they are like William the Conqueror and John the Great of Portugal. I'm still glad that Aegon The Younger sat in the throne at the end and not the bastards

@@danielsantiagourtado3430Even though this is referring to fictional characters, holy schitte did it make me recoil in disgust.
The funny thing is that in the books, it's entirely possible that Aegon III is the bastard of Harwin, posthumous son of Laenor, or, what the Septon thinks, just Daemon's son. He was ironically conceived as a bastard in all except Laenor's cases.
He was conceived while Rhaenyra was still married to Laenor.
Even then, the only reason people even thought the other three were Harwin's is just because someone suggested it, and people kept gossiping about it. There's every indication that Rhaenyra actually slept with Laenor, even in Mushroom's "Rhaenyra had threesomes with Laenor and Laenor's male paramour and enjoyed it," they were actively sleeping together. Even in ASoIaF, basal genetics still exist and all three of the Velaryons have dark-haired ancestors in the recent genepool, in all three possible fathers' respective family trees.
Baelor Breakspear was born to a Targaryen and looked like he was Salt Dornish because his mother was a Nymeros Martel.
      Rhaenys had brown-black hair.
      Also, William *didn't* own it.
He HATED being called a bastard.
Even if the Velaryons were bastards, it literally does not matter. Rhaenyra could literally just say; "They are not bastards, but if they were, I hereby, via Royal Decree, legitimise all of my children of dubious heritage as members of the House Targaryen."
Her not doing so when she held King's Landing kind of itself makes it seem even less apparent that they weren't trueborn, all it takes is one royal missive, or even just saying it out loud.
Aegon the Fertile didn't use any decree, he just said "All of my bastards are now legitimised." as he was dying, and so it was.
Anyways, death to House Targaryen, they're all the bastardspawn of Daeron the Illegitimate, the only legitimate Dragonseeds out there are Saera Blackfyre's son Aegon I Blackfyre and whatever family she may have had.
Thank The Father that he's taken Storm's End and will probably take the throne and bring Aegor Bracken's skull home.
      Death to all Targaryens.
      Victory to the Black Dragon.

It was clearly obvious rhaenyra loved harwin strong. You just tryna make her look bad, like she didn't care. Just cuz we didn't see her mourn him doesn't mean she didn't care
