  • I have a 2005 Sprinter 2.7 L Turbo Diesel. It looses engine power, torbo actuator is not working properly. The car works fine once I restart the engine and then it looses power again. Do I need to replace the turbo actuator or there is something else that controls the actuator? The Check Engine Light is on. The Code is: (P0299 Turbo/Supercharger Underboost) Thanks!

    wastegate is basicly a pressure release valve. It acts as a safeguard for the engine. The idea is, when the turbo spools and makes pressure, sometimes the pressurised intake could be too high to damage the parts inside the engine, like the rods, pistons, valves, bearings or cylinder head or block completely. To prevent this from happening, engines with forced inductions have a wastegate. They open when the maximum pressure is reached, so any more pressurised intake can be released.

    Thanks for the video... it looks like my issue is also the actuator but I am having a real difficult time finding one. the new (more economical turbos) dont include it so IF I wanted new I will pay BIG dollars and the salvage yards sells the turbos complete (not just the actuator) a shop told me that if the actuator has gone bad then it is more than likely the exhaust side (along withe the veins) will be gummed up as well. So question one is where did you get your actuator and for how much. Question 2 is can the turbo be cleaned without taking it apart. Question 3 where can I buy a rebuild kit for the turbo and lastly are there rebuild kits for the actuator. I see that you have labled the pins on the electric connector but have not included voltages so I can try to test it.
    Thanks

    Thanks for a great upload, I have a Mercedes ML 270 cdi with the same engine. came back from a service with reduced engine power, thought the turbo had died as couldn't hear it spinning, turned out the garage had accidentally disconnected a vacuum pipe...... pushed it back in the rubber connector re-started the engine and bingo fixed !

    Hi, I have a 2005 with 350k and the turbo controller has been replaced but I still has a drift on partial excel-oration , I changed the fuel filer no smoke out of the tail pipe that I can see, runs great except for the drifting. Putting a new trans in it next week. Also for some time now I have to wait 5 or so second after the coil light go out before starting or the light will come on . We have changed the glow plugs and the controller and it doesn't matter . Any suggestions 😄

    I've had my resonator separate at the seam twice now on my 2004 2500 Sprinter and got sick and tired of limping it home.SO, I clamped the separated unit together with C-clamps and drilled 12 holes evenly spaced around the top edge on my drill press and then used 6 x 1/2" drill screws to hold it together. Problem solved.

    Do you know how to calibrate it? Or does the 3 turns law, like other turbos apply? Thanks again for your time and help in the matter... Greetings!

  • @Baskentli
    @Baskentli Před 11 lety +1

    It is not a problem. People should share any kind of knowledge. I don't know what is the 3 turns law though. And you don't have to calibrate anything in your wastegate. The mechanical wastegate is basicly a valve connected to a spring. The force to squeeze the spring is the maximum amount of air pressure. When the pressure is reached, the pressurized air will push the small metal thing outside. On the other side of the small metal plate is the spring. It compresses when the force( P ) is enough.

  • @DjNagenMix

    It is the black cylinder looking plastic piece out of the turbo, into the hose left side of engine. Removed the plate and you will see it next right of the air filter. Good luck!

    I had the same problem on my Sprinter. I found I had a small split in the underside of a turbo hose. Once it heats up and opens the sensor cuts the turbo off, & can't get rev's over 3000. Whne you turn of the cr you reset the sensor and with no pressure in the hose the split closes up. Double check those hoses. Other wise it's a dirty fuel filter but more than likely the hose.

    Hi. I am having same issue. Works fine then periodically no boost. Turn off then back on and works fine for a day week month then all of sudden no boost. Just recently cycling ignition no longer get fixes I hooked wastegate directly to vacuum and wastegate pulled in. I checked and there is vacuum coming from from solenoid but very little. When you hook vacuum line from wastegate to solenoid nothing happens. But when direct to vacuum sorce(bypass solenoid) wastegate pulls in sorry for going on and on but what was your fix.? I'm thinking my solenoid is defective and not letting go enough vacuum through or there is a very small crack in wastegate diaphragm and not able to pull in. But not big enough for when it is hooked directly to vacuum source it pulls in

    @Baskentli Před 11 lety +1

    It is just behind the turbo, on the pipe that connects the turbocharger to the intake manifold. Your car has a mechanical(Spring type) wastegate, and they usually don't cause any problems because they don't have any electronic features at all.

      1.oil in the intercooler, clean it with some gasolin, let it dry,
      2. then check again if there is an oil leak in the compressor side of the turbo, maybe some oil seal is broken.
      self accelerating diesel engines are in most cases due to heavy oil mist inside the engine, that acts as fuel, then you cold not stop it turning the key off, because it is working with engine oil, not diesel, that is called a runaway engine.
      best to stop the van is to put it in high gear and press full brakes, so you stall the engine.

    • @TheEdudo
      @TheEdudo Před 10 lety

      TheEdudo other fault that makes engine not to revving over 3.000 rpm is a bad clutch switch sensor (manual gearbox) or bad brake sensor ( if your van have automatic transmission gearbox). it is the cheapest thing o start on, it is located above the pedal lever. Engine for selfprotection issues does not rev over 3.000 unless the pedal is pressed, then it gets till 4000 where ECU shuts down injection automatically.

      edson salinas es tu turbo enfriado por agua?, no que yo sepa. Primero haz un prueba de presión en el sistema de enfriamiento, es barato hacer esa prueba en un taller, se presuriza el radiador y se ve la fuga. si entra anticongelante en la cámara de combustión sale humo blanco como un tren, eso siempre es seguro la junta de culata que perdió sellado. Raro en verdad, no hay pasajes de agua a la admisión del turbo, puede ser condensación del respirador del block o crankcase ventilation es una manguera de goma con una flecha apuntando una muesca que conecta con la manguera del turbo. El respiradero del block va debajo de la tapa plástica que tiene la estrella de mercedes es una cosa negra y tiene un enchufe hacia la parte de atrás del motor. No se me ocurre más sin ver. Se puede hace funcionar el motor con esa manguera desconectada y ver si sale vapor o agua, ten cuidado con la aspas del ventilador que están muy cerca.

    The problem with my '06 2500 is that the turbo works fine when truck is cold, then warms up, and turbo goes away, I still hear the turbo whistling, but no boost, I have replaced the resonator, (from dealer, 4 days ago,,, don't think a brand new part is bad?) turbo boost sensor, cleaned out the Mass Air Sensor, double, and triple checked for broken hoses or loose hose clamps, Taken off the EGR valve, and its clean and moves, and nothing! I have gotten multiple codes, 1 is a P0088, which is high fuel pressure, and P0087 low fuel pressure, I've replaced both sensors, with code still here, I also got the code for P0237 Turbo charger boost sensor, and since cleared all codes, it hasn't come back yet,, but once again, neither has the turbo. The turbo comes back if I pull over, shut off the engine, and restart, then I'll have it for the next,,, 0.5 miles or so. I'm out of ideas, and I can not afford to bring it to the dealer for a diagnosis. If anyone has heard of this issue, please let me know. Thanks!
