Over a decade ago I got a misdemeanor possession charge for weed, I had my second pre trial conference and on my way was t boned, about two miles from the courthouse. I had a gash on my forehead and I didn’t realize it at the time but also a broken wrist and a couple fractured ribs. I tried calling my lawyer but he wasn’t answering, and I did NOT want a warrant out for my arrest for failure to appear. EMS arrived within a few minutes, they wanted to take me to the hospital because I’m sure watching me try to breath and wincing everytime while blood dripped down my face wasn’t the healthiest look, but I flat out said no. I explained my situation and told them I would walk if I had too! EMS instead loaded me up, escorted me into court, and when my lawyer walked in I thought he was the one that was going to need a paramedic, he looked SPOOKED. He immediately told me to go, not before taking pictures to show the judge. I went and got fixed up and had my pre trial conference a few weeks later where the charge was thankfully, dropped! If I could make it to court after getting tboned then this chick has ZERO excuses for missing TWELVE pre trial conferences! What a messy human.

Don't blame the lawyer, it's his job to be a zealous advocate for his client. Sometimes I watch these videos and pity the guys who get handed cases like -- well, this one. He said what he had to say in her behalf even if he didn't really believe it. I think he knew she wasn't walking out but she didn't hear it or want to hear it. I have a friend who was a PD and he said his nightmare client was one who was actually innocent. If they weren't innocent he didn't have to feel too bad when he lost a case but if he really believed they were innocent and he lost the case he would be gutted.

In most cases the time between two appearances is long enough that the judge doesn't remember anything from the previous appearance. Most lawyers bet on that like this guy and it usually works. Unless you talk too much and then the judge remembers you. That's why the lawyer told her shut her mouth on the first appearance. If she had taken his advice I bet the judge wouldn't have remembered her the second time and she would have received an option for bonding out.

I can add a bit of perspective. The Drug War really did a lot to marginalize serious laws. People saw the laws around drug abuse tighten over decades and slowly as the penalties for being in possession of Cocaine approached being as harsh as Murder, society hit a sort of breaking point. You had a lot of people who knew their drug use wasn't harmful to anyone other than themselves now re-orienting their perspecive on higher crimes, like major theft, larceny, stron armed robbery, and even murder. Society as a whole became sort of desensitized to high crimes thanks to the punative regulations surrounding narcotics during the height of the drug war. And the fact that these policies were used to marginalize whole communities didn't help the situation. So, slowly over 2 or 3 generations (about 60 years) you see the slow decline of percievable fear of punative power. That's just my observations watching this happen over the last 30 or so years. Basically, Nixon and Reagan's drug war watered down what we percieve as "high crimes" to the point that people see them as social infractions instead of felonies. This is what happens when people try to justify rational actions with lies and propaganda as opposed to truth. It's a serious lesson we could all learn from... and one that I think future generations will talk about for a long while.

@@Neillybob63 "because of drug use" is the point of contention. You know all of those things were happening before the drug war was in full swing. Blaming drug use for everything isn't helpful for anything. There are a lot of robbers, murderers, abusers, and confidence scammers who have never done drugs. And what "drug" are you blaming here? just the ones the FDA classifies the way they arbitrarily choose? Having a catchall like DRUGS to blame for bad behaviors that go far beyond simple drug use will never help cure drug abuse. Understanding the underlying condition which drives the person to drug abuse WILL help cure drug abuse. You don't heal people from sickness by sending them to jail. Most of us know people struggling with addiction, and many of those people are not robbing anyone, committing violent offenses, or going in an out of jail regularly. Jails are not treatment centers. They don't provide recovery assistance, they just allow people who make questionable decisions a place to network with other people who make questionable decisions.

The first thing that I would do, if I were that judge, is investigate what appears to be an inmate that is acting overly familiar to the security staff. Inmates that show that level of familiarity throw up red flags. From my years of experience, and observing the interaction of inmates and security, I have, several times over my career, referred the appearance of impropriety for further investigation, and in only ONE case did the investigation reveal no inappropriate relationship. All except that one, resulted in charges for the officer, and in some, the inmate. Now she doesn't need to work to pay utilities. She's now on the tax payers dime. Oooppss,
it now looks like she's come to the end of her yellow brickroad of freedom and is headed to permanent placement in jail. She is so unreliable. I sincerly doubt her family asked for her help knowing they could not count on her help with grandma.❤😇

If she was black, the public would be rallying and calling the judge petty for keeping her in jail when “just a couple failures to appear.”

She claims she is taking care of her grandma and has bills to pay, and she keeps missing court. But she seems to have enough time to keep breaking the law at least 12 times.

...and I keep wondering why she's paying rent if all her worldly possession are in the car. Also why she drove her car to her friend's house so she could get a ride from her friend.

Ah yes your honor I called the prosecuting attorney and they told me that they were sorry for prosecuting me and all charges are dropped and I am awarded a million dollars, a new Corvette, a mansion in any state I choose

This is a great example of why people don't fear the legal system. Do whatever you want and get let out right away. When there are serious consequences for your crimes then people won't think its such a joke.
