  • First extended trip and landscape shoot with my new Sony camera equipment - the Sony RX10iv and the RX100v. Visit to Fernworthy Reservoir and Thornworthy Tor on Dartmoor for a sunset and dawn shoot.
Astro shoot was a fail really. I missed focus and, even if it was sharp, I do not think that the cropped sensors are going to cut it when it comes to this form of photography without extra help. That extra help may come in the form of an equatorial mount so that I can do longer exposures at lower ISO levels.
I am also still struggle with the Sony focus system and have some further learning to do there.
The Zhiyun Crane Plus performed very well with the smaller RX100v, but really didn't go well with the larger RX10iv - that may well be because I need to adjust the motor strength settings.
Check out Kevin Fremon's channel for his video on making a magnetic wind muff for the RX100v: • Make a Magnetic Wind M...

    Thank you for these videos.
I am also thinking of going from my Nikon set up to the rx10 iv, so have found your blogs most informative.

Just waiting to get my RX10iv, so looking at your vlog is helping me greatly. Some really nice images Nigel.

I’ve only just discovered your channel, but I’m glad I did. Your laid back tranquil style of blogs and camera choice of RX10 IV (I have the same) are a great combination. You have also given me a new lease of inspiration to go camping! I’ve been looking for ways to get my 12 & 10 year old boys away from their PlayStation consoles! I live on Dartmoor but to not take advantage of this fact enough.

Very nicely done video Nigel. Very peaceful. I really enjoyed the black and white shot of the lake and clouds.

Do not like cows at all, awful things. On a plate, surrounded by chips and mushrooms - lovely but out in the wild......Good to see the shirt on and the waterproofs off this time and I enjoyed the shot you captured before you camped. Well worth the look out of the tent at 22.30, even though it must have been chilly without a top coat. The morning time lapse was great and wouldn't it be nice to pack a tent away as fast as that. Pleased to see you managed to get some good shots at the end and the new camera seems to be paying it's way. Cheers Alan

Thanks - the gimbal is very good, but still need to work out how to get it working well enough with the bigger camera

Cracking video from what I saw of it. Have you tried Exmoor for night photography, it’s the blackest place I know in the southwest

Great videos, I just discovered your channel but I being using this camera Sony RX10M4 for about a year and the more I use the more I like it; it’s so versatile and useful in many ocasiones. Thanks for sharing your experiences and tips,
Could you pls let me know wich kind and brand of ND graduated filter are you using to match the Sony RX10M4, I recently got one CPL but I’m interested into graduated filters for sunrise/sunset

Hi Rafael - thanks for watching and for your question. I use the Lee Filters 100mm square filter system. However, I don’t use it all that much these days; most of the time I will bracket exposures and use Lightroom to merge the shots if there is a very high level of dynamic range in the shot. Lightroom now includes the “sky selection” feature, which makes this far more effective than using a filter. Best, Nigel

Nice to see you out and about, and some lovely images as well. I particularly like the sunset shots behind the rock starting at about 17:35, as well as the Milky Way (I've always wanted to get a nice MW shot), and that final image of the layers receding into the distance in the mist. Very nice. So, are you going to change the name of your channel now? 😆

Many thanks. There is a certain irony, ow, about the name. Unfortunately, CZcams doesn't facilitate a name change. Once it's set, that's it! Unless anyone knows different...
