    William Holden was one of the best actors of that special time in Hollywood when it had class. When I think of him, many movies come to mind. First and foremost is The Bridge on the River Kwai. Excellent movie. Sunset Boulevard is another that pops right up along with The Country Girl and Stalag 17. Yet there are so many more. But I must say that I get the biggest thrill watching him in that episode of I Love Lucy! He was fantastic! The looks he made when her nose kept changing shape! Priceless! And hilarious! I’m just so saddened that he had to battle alcoholism and lost the battle. It’s no joke. Alcoholism is so hard for so many. He and Stefanie Powers were a lovely couple. Thanks Bill for the laughs on I Love Lucy and all of your other great works. Whenever I feel down I can pull up that scene on Lucy and laugh my head off! You still bring joy to this world and Stefanie has made sure that your wildlife preservation lives on. ❤

    When Holden died in 1981, does anyone else remember the almost unbelievable coincidence that
    happened? Both Stephanie Powers' boyfriend (Holden) & Robert Wagner's wife (Natalie Wood)
    i.e. "Hart to Hart" co-stars, died within the same month, inciting controversy about their deaths! Holden
    had a 'meteoric' rise to movie stardom at age 20 & stayed there for over 40 years! Great star! R.I.P.

      They lived apart (they had multiple homes and never married for a myriad of reasons but traveled the world together) as she was encouraged to not live with William when he drink so she wouldn't enable his bouts of alcoholism and normalize it. This poor man did really suffer and used to drink hard liquor until he passed out alone watching a television. But he was wonderfully kind and paved the way for animal conservation and environmental awareness. We lost a good one.

      Yes, you're right... if I recall, his doctor (a Betty Ford clinic-renowned one) asked Stefanie what was "wrong with her" that she was "with an alcoholic" and they needed to "disconnect" by returning one another's keys and belongings out of each other's homes to make it "symbolic".
      I wonder if she ever feels that she shouldn't have done so, and if that would have had any bearing on his passing. Even if it gave them time together just a little bit longer.

      Four years ago, I had a near-death experience similar to this. I was living with my brother, who found me on the bathroom floor and rushed me to the emergency room. By that time, I had vomited a significant amount of blood and was on the verge of passing out. Without someone there, I would have bled to death. I hate to admit it, but it wasn't unpleasant, it was like being wrapped in a warm velvet blanket. This highlights the risks faced by alcoholics and drug addicts who live alone. It's sad that he predicted it. He was an extremely handsome man before the booze started taking its toll.

    This story appears to be only partly true. At the time of his death William Holden was set to wed socialite Patricia Stauffer, a fact the probably did not set will with Miss Powers. Powers was riding high at the time with the ultra-successful TV show Hart to Hart. It was rumored that William Holden was poised to expose Robert Wagner as being bi-sexual. This revalation would have effectively scuppered the show. Now, factor in the death of Natalie Wood, just days apart from Mr Holden's. It is concievable, if not totally believable that Miss Wood confronted Wagner about the rumor which might have lead to her undoing. Since Miss Powers was the last person to see William Holden alive it is quite possible that she could have pushed him over violently and stormed out, not checking to see if he was hurt or not. Or, perhaps she struck him over the head with a bottle. Only Miss Powers knows for sure. Wagner has not been totally ruled out as a 'person of interest' in the case of Miss Wood's death 42 years after the fact.

    • @festivelady826
      @festivelady826 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Natalie Wood knew Robert Wagner was bi-sexual. The first time they were married in their youth, she came home unexpectedly and found him in bed with David Cavendish, his British butler. She was horrified and ran out of the house, filing for divorce shortly afterwards. I do believe that Wagner and Wood had a violent argument aboard "Splendour" and he is responsible for her death. The skipper has changed his story several times about the fight.
