      Hi, I don't know if your channel has covered William Shatner or not yet, you might want to consider it though. THAT man has had an _absolutely_ fascinating life! From the stages in Canada, to the small screens in our home, his family, several wives, the big screen than, into the vastness of outer space?! 🤯 Most important thing he has ever said, was his own very personal account & descriptions of _his_ own experience of being _in_ space. It's just glorious... no _so beautiful._ His words about what he witnessed way up there just humbles the listener, nearly being us to tears. Plus, they asked him within the first moments of his actual return to Earth. _PLEASE,_ do yourself a favour today & watch it for yourself? Totally worth the few seconds it'll take to find it here on the CZcams. Until then, I'm sending YOU all, ~positive vibes~ for a wonderful continuation of your day! Plus, extra squishy *hugs to this channel's _whole_ team ->🤗🤗💕💕

      I am deeply shocked to hear of William Holden’s personal life troubles. I mean, he took care of his family as a boy and enlisted to serve his country….He put his acting career and relationships on hold to fight in WWll….In the beginning, William Holden had such integrity. Then, however, self doubt enters and envious people or critical people enter to open wounds that are clearly open. My father and I used to watch the old films together before he passed in 2016. I wanted to mention the episode on “I Love Lucy” when the Ricardo’s and the Mertz’s Go To Hollywood. Lucy and Ethel meets William Holden at The Brown Derby. It hysterically FUNNY! Anyways, I wanted to say in addition to all the rest….William Holden was an incredibly gifted actor and I just wish he would have made better choices for his wife and family. Perhaps, she could have returned to films and they could have shared the responsibility of raising their children together. Lastly, I still enjoy watching the older movies without Dad, but I feel differently because I now know what was going on “BEHIND THE SCENES”. We the fans, fall in love with the characters these actors and actresses portray and yet forget the person behind that persona is just a regular human being with troubles just like us. It just all comes down to choices….I think Wm Holden’s wife should have been more supportive and that he NEVER cheated!!!! That’s what hurts…..hurts all of us in the same way.

      I think his relationship with Ms. Powers was companion like. He had a bad alcoholic problem and that can render men impotent. It really seems that it was more pals like and not romantic. When he died, the apt he lived in wasn’t shared as a “couple”. I read it was his and Ms. Powers wasn’t mentioned at all:).
      The love of his life really was Audrey Hepburn. The reason she didn’t marry him is that he had had a vasectomy and she wanted to have children and he couldn’t give her that. She then met and married Mel Ferrer and had kids with him!!

    I personally knew a cutting room editor that worked on the Robert Redford film "Horse Whisper." He told me that Bill would, after a day's shoot, come over and have a beer or two with the grips and other film crew staff after a day's shoot. He was a real down to earth ordinary man that would mix with the basic page boys on a shoot, not a stiff better than thou typical Hollywood star.
    It was a shame the way he died. Alone and bleeding out.
    As you know, he was also heavily involved in African wildlife protection. Too bad Hollywood has forever lost those types of actors, forever! Real humans that came from us regular folks with, for the most part, came from humble beginnings.

    I met Bill Holden at the spa La Costa back in 1974. We talked about motorcycles and his love of Kenya. He told me that he found acting to be difficult and harder than people realize. He invited me to his house on Driftwood Drive in Palm Springs to do some desert motorcycle rides
    A great honor to have known such a true gentleman who was so nice and down to earth. The drinking was his demon. We exchanged letters for a while prior to his death. I can’t believe I had the opportunity to get to know him. I love the world of Susie Wong.

    Those were some great times growing up in the 60's and my mom was a cool lady from Iceland. One of her favorite things to do on a Saturday. Along with just about everyone else in that small fishing town she came from. Went to see movies on the silver screen on a Saturday afternoon or night.
    What a wonderful place and time to grow up in, and she shared her love for those old movies and actors with me.

    The love of his life was Audrey Hepburn with whom he has an affair when they filmed Sabrina. Then the last movie he filmed with her he tried to rekindle the affair but she was married and had kids and wouldn’t do it. His alcoholism was so bad that he was hospitalized in Paris for a week during the filming and that’s why you see several big name actors like Tony Curtis in some of the scenes where Bill Holden wasn’t… too bad because he died young and was a good actor and a real gentleman by many accounts😊.

      Sometimes facial bone structure makes a lot of difference as we age. He did not have very high cheekbones, so the cheeks succumb to gravity. Compare to Cary Grant, who had more defined facial bones and whose good looks lasted into his senior years.

    Unfortunately, even at my older age, I’m still an incurable romantic. Every time I watch a move or documentary about William Holden my mind creates a younger woman’s image of total meltdown if he would smile at me and speak in that low warm timbre voice. It reminds me of the character that Barbara Stanwyck played in the Thorn Birds as Mary Carson. In the last scene with with Richard Chamberlain she explains it very clearly. It’s sad that he had a horrible addiction and I’m sure he hated it more than anyone else. His womanizing could’ve been a way to run away from it and the guilt but it only created another guilt. I’m not providing excuses but for some people there’s demons that are very difficult to get rid of because they always return for another attempt to steal, kill and destroy.

    • @MsMarple
      @MsMarple Před 5 měsíci +1

      Very interesting comments! I loved The Thorn Birds, but didn’t remember that Barbara Stanwyck was in the TV series. I was never a big Holden fan. Reminded me of a somewhat handsomer version of my amoral grandfather. Now in my 60’s, I find it better not to know too much about actors I like because they are usually disappointing. But, if you like romance behind the scenes, Rachel Ward, who played the lead in Thorn Birds, married her on-screen husband in that mini-series, Bryan Brown, and they’ve been together for decades. Another romantic tidbit is that Vanessa Redgrave, who played Guinevere in Camelot, had a mad fling with Franco Nero, who played Lancelot. They had a child, and years later got married, which they remain to this day. Last, but not least, I believe that ‘God put eternity in our heart’, so that romantic feelings are very human and very long-lasting. 😊

    • @Vicki1951
      @Vicki1951 Před 5 měsíci

      @@MsMarple Thank you very much for responding. Barbara was only in part one of the TV series Thorn Birds. She’s amazing in it and received an Emmy Award for her performance. I think you’re correct about eternity in our hearts. I have been told that I have eternal hope and I do. I may fall down or slow down but I never give in or give up. I also know it’s not just me going forward either and for that I am thankful.
      Btw, there were a few others from that time period that were pretty easy on the eyes too. 😉

    Very sad about Wm Holden. Didn’t he know his own talent? He was also a gymnast in his youth. His body was always perfect. Stephanie Powers talked about him on TCM when she was on with Ben Mankiewitz. Holden took a real interest in the animals of Africa. He probably would not have died if he got sober, he had no excuse. AA was huge by the time he died.

    William Holden was a wonderful and talented actor that left many beautiful movies and memories for us that loved him and the great movies of the past. Alcoholism was and still is a deadly disease that destroys lives and families. For being a top actor back in the days when booze and cigarettes were common everywhere and everyone partook, he remained a romantic. He still wanted a real marriage and that must be why he kept asking the women he loved to marry him. Thank you
