Hi my name is Lilly and I am an American expat living on the island of Koh Samui in the gulf of Thailand for the last 9 years. My husband is Thai and his name is Wat. We have 2 half Thai, half American boys named Luke and Leon. Im expecting our third child in just a few weeks.
Nam is our Nanny and she is like family to us. She is from Myanmar and has worked for us for over 6 years.
Wat and I have owned several businesses together on Maenam walking street in Koh Samui. Right now our restaurant Lilikoi Bistro is closed but we will let you know when we reopen.

I’m so pleased that you will be happy with whatever little one you are blessed with. I had my babies back in the days when you had no idea and my husband and I didn’t even think about what sex we would have. We had names for both picked out. We had 2 sons. Both healthy which was a blessing.

I pray that Nam receives extra pay with more holidays to rest. She’s the one that deserves a week’s stay in a nice hotel of her choice. I can’t imagine doing the cooking, cleaning, babysitting and catering to a family of 5 without extra help. Nam is the real glue that keeps everything together.

#Global Citizen just think it over Nam is always with the family she can order what she likes to eat she can nap or sleep whenever she get tired. Lily shared a very nice life to Nam and we have no right to offer advise what Lily can do to Nam. If you have your own asian helper at home am sure you did your best. Same with Lily she did so much for Nam. We just did not know that😇😇😇
@@shrek1163 I would never use a the word “helper” or hire a service worker regardless of where they came from. I was raised to manage my own household and taught how to do everything from 10 years old. We don’t know Nam’s full story but I live here and regardless of free food, she deserves a real life. 90% of these migrants are being exploited across the world due to lack of education, finances, and issues in their home countries. My Thai friend works for an upscale restaurant as a cashier/server making 60 baht per hour. Most low-income people are making 300 - 400 baht per day = $9 - $12 USD.
The migrants from Myanmar are sometimes making 1/2 of that in Thailand working at construction sites. The housekeeping and nanny’s aren’t making that much even if the families have money because they like cheap labor. It’s embedded in their culture to make them work long hours and receive less pay. I read, see, and hear about it every single day. I can only imagine what the undocumented workers are making. The point I made in my 2nd comment is still VALID! I’m not saying she’s being mistreated. I’m saying there’s an opportunity to do better.

I pray that Nam discovers her worth one day. She deserves to have an education, love, friends, children, marriage, her own business, and whatever she desires. I hope she knows this doesn’t have to be a forever job. We all know things in Myanmar aren’t the greatest, but she deserves to set goals and dream like everyone else. I hope someone is putting money away for Nam so she can be free once that day comes. As a woman, Lilly should be grooming Nam and showing her what life is really all about outside of catering to her family. Please do something nice like hire an English/Thai Tutor, encourage her to explore a craft or hobby, talk to her about being a young woman, and pivoting her multi-faceted skills in other ways. She’s not just a Nanny but a human being too. Nam deserves her own channel as a way of making extra money. It would be cool to see short clips or 10 minute videos of Nam BTS with the boys and a little bit of her day. I know she’s shy but I dislike the on queue reactions she’s forced to give about food or hotel accommodations. Please empower Nam to be greater.

It is dangerous to change somebodies' world and perspective and leave her muddled up and confused. Lilly exposes her to a new world in a very calm and gradual way. Even Lilly is wise to not tell Nam "she should be better than a nanny". Few people in Thailand has permanent positions. Leave Nam to her own pace and let her work out her own destination. She is not dumb and does not hear "she can be something better" She is the best!

And no one ever said Lilly had to tell her to be better than a nanny. That would also be ridiculous. Again, giving someone an opportunity to better their life and future is never a bad thing. I think the original post was extremely well said and was said not to hurt anyone but said in pure love and kindness for another human being whose life means just as much as mine or yours or Lilly's and her family's life.
Why you people want to change people's lives. Do you think you can do beter job changing her live? Do you think? The family that Nam is living with is perfect they respect and love .Every think in the right time. God will show her the right way in the right time.
