  • This video is about my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. In this video I am installing large engine guards on the bike. This is one of the many accessories you can get for the Interceptor 650. The engine guards are a great safety feature. They will minimize the chance of you being pinned under the bike if you lay it over. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a heavy motorcycle. With 90% fuel and oil, the bike weighs right at 470 pounds. The engine guards will also help minimize damage to the bike if it’s laid on its side. Royal Enfield designed them in a way that makes the installation very easy. The engine guards are secured to the motor mounts on the front of the motor. There is one thru bolt for the top motor mount. Then, there are two bolts for the lower motor mounts. One bolt for the left and one bolt for the right. The lower bolts are located behind the exhaust on the Interceptor 650. However, the exhaust does not need to be removed to install the engine guards. The entire installation process takes about 30 minutes. The Royal Enfield engine guards will help minimize injuries to the rider and damage to the bike if it’s ever laid over. They are designed to fit the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and no modifications are needed to complete the installation.

    The exact install video I was looking for. Super clear explanation. I ordered these in chrome and was thinking of installing LED running lights to them for safety.

      @Kirby's SQL Talk I was looking at the LED's too. I just haven't found the ones I want yet. You will have to drill holes through the chrome for the wires. Wrap the spot you're drilling with painter's tape first so the chrome doesn't chip or peel. Might put a dab of motor oil on the drill bit so it doesn't heat up too much. Also, I would create some sort of a clamp to go around the tubing with a hole for the drill bit. The clamp will prevent the drill bit from slipping off the round bars. Just some thoughts. I like the LED idea. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

      @@my-enfield612 excellent advice. Thank you for that. I was thinking of tie-wrapping the wires but your approach sounds much cleaner. First things first...need to get the bike next week and we will go from there. Thanks again for your excellent videos.

    Good job, they look great. Just bought a 2023 INT 650, had the dealer install engine guard, 2 days later I dropped my bike & Bent brake rear brake pedal and the chrome on underneath exhaust rubbed off. I’m wanting an engine guard that protrudes further out .

    I ride some poor lit roads (not by choice ) to get to work that are one lane each . and wanted to add some running lights i was considering this guard because it will give me somewhere to add them. I think this would work out. thanks for the post. and sharing.

    Excellent video with no stupid blaring intro music and kaleidoscopic graphics! Kind sir, can you tell me if in the event of a tip over (while at standstill) will these bars protect the tank and the exhausts? Just want to make sure that before I spend on installing these, these things should actually work.
    PS: Hope you are feeling better (read in the comments that you were unwell) Love from Mumbai, India.

    • @my-enfield612
      @my-enfield612  Před rokem +1

      @Shamz Thanks for the comment. There is always a possibility of something being damaged in a tip over even with engine guards. But, If I was to lay the bike over gently the tank would be well off the ground since the bike won't completely lay over flat with the engine guards. The lower exhaust might scrape a little. I'm not sure. I haven't tipped the bike over. Hopefully I never do. I'm feeling much better thanks. Thanks for watching

    I'm having issues with the bolt head clearing the bar, especially on the left side. The bolt and the washer are pushing up against the guard and want to bite in the frame when I tighten them down. Maybe the guards themselves need to be adjusted a bit?

    Any particular reason you didn't use the centre stand during installation?

    • @my-enfield612
      @my-enfield612  Před rokem +1

      @Hqmpest Thanks for the comment. Yes, there is a reason. I had just bought the bike a few days before that video. It's my first street bike and I had never used a center stand. I was so scared I'd drop the bike. lol In my head I just didn't think I could lift the bike onto the center stand. Took a few weeks before I finally started using it. Sorry for the late reply. I've been horribly sick the last few days. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

    What are the torque specs on them bolts?

    • @my-enfield612
      @my-enfield612  Před rokem

      @pjbikerful Thanks for the comment. The instruction say to torque the bolts to 45Nm or 33 ft lbs. My torque wrenches don't go that low so I just got them really tight. The bike has 1,000 miles on it now and the bolts have not come loose at all. Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching.
