    Torque spec for the lower bolt is 59 ft lbs, top bolt is 15 ft lbs. If you're doing the rears, it's 70 ft lbs for all four bolts.

    Hey, just installed the front shocks I bought from you on my 2001 Silverado. I have the springs up front, but other than that, easy breezy install. I did spray some stuff to penetrate and loosen rust on the top of the shocks about 30 minutes prior to removal. Glad I did. Also, I used impact wrench for the bottom bolts on the shock. From the time I lifted the truck to the time I dropped it. 1 hour. 40 minutes on the first side, 20 on the second. Thanks for the video. I'll be ordering rear shocks next week. You guys saved me close to $300 on this job.

    I know that this post is old but I just changed my front shocks. I removed the old and then I put the top threads in the top bracket of course palce your bushings on beforehand.
    Then bolt your lower bolt. Jack the A-arm up a little put your top bushing on and secure with nut and torque your bottom bolt.
    Not really sure what mike is talking about the shock has to have a load on it or it will shoot out of the car? My shocks were full extended and the way i did it there was no chance of it.

    Once everythings installed and tightened to specs, with the tires on and on the ground should the upper bushing and washer be loose? I can basically turn both but the nut is still torqued and secure

  • @Alma6est
    @Alma6est Před 7 lety +1

    have been hearing a low rubbing/groaning noise under vehicle, thought wheel bearing, u joints, checked trans gears, turns out to be bad shocks. Have changed the back ones, easy bottom bolt, but top came with 2 small bolts each secured on top by a clip to frame shock absorber nut. Of course nothing is easy, all the nuts are rusted, hard to get to with a ratchet extension and when one of these clips broke i had an endless rotating rust bolt.
    I notice on my front shock the top where the vise clamped a hex key can be used, but due to rust i have lightly stripped this opening, no choise but to use the vise grip or cut the thing, and the new monroe shocks a wrench can be used which is nice

    In need of some part advice... :)
    I have an '07 Silverado with coil over front struts, and I want to replace my OEM shocks with a set of Bilstein 4600's. I know which rear shocks to use, but the problem is my confusion over the correct front shocks/struts to purchase. Here's my problem...When I look up the part that I need for the front shocks/struts, I find two items. One is the front Bilstein 4600 shock by itself, and the other is the "Strut Assembly." both of these seem to be the exact same thing with the difference being that the strut assembly has more mounting hardware. I'm confused about which of these two I need. Thanks guys!

  • @dnlmachine4287
    @dnlmachine4287 Před 4 lety

    If you are REPLACING the shocks, easy removal tip for top nut:
    Cut the upper shock boot/shroud so you can grab the shock piston with GOOD vice grips.
    Clamp the vice grips on the shock piston at a height that allows them to jam against something solid as they rotate. BEWARE of the brake lines.
    Hit that upper nut with an impact gun from the top. DONE and DUN.
    Stay gold.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  Před 7 lety +1

      +Miguel Jurado Thanks for watching! The replacement of struts does not always require an alignment, but it is dependent on the other parts removed from the vehicle to replace. A good estimate for replacement time is roughly 1.5 hours to 2 hours for each side based on experience. 1aauto.com

Would it help to loosen the top shock nut a few turns? I heard it can help? Is the bottom nut not tight enough? The shocks I am replacing have the piston assembly of the shocks in a manner that currently as they are installed, have the piston mounted at the top. +Judas Perez Thanks for watching! You want to make sure when you replace the shocks to have them positioned correctly. The charged (gas tube) end is usually mounted on the bottom!

      For 1999-2006 and 07 classic you shouldn't have to. The spring stays in place and the shock slides out separately.
