  • To give an idea of the job if you want to do it yourself or if a pro do it for you.
    it's just to give an idea i'm not a pro.
    Only special tool needed is a spring compressor.
    This job must be done with the hands and the brain.
    There is a very big tension on the spring once compressed.
    Compression must be equally distributed on the two compressors and they must be positionned in a symetrical way .

    Thanks, I wasn't quite sure how much to compress the coil, thanks for your help. My shock was gone and I had to overcompress it because it wasn't rebounding. Once the spring loosened off of the end caps, I removed it, the new one stuck through almost 2 inches. I could've released the end nut sooner but I didn't realize that I was over compressing the coil. Live and Learn. God Bless you.

      You can pull on the shock rod itself to extend it.
      Not all shocks expand by themselves following if they are gas shocks ,or oil shocks.
      As i know oil shocks do not expand alone.

    No useless chatter, intro or annoying background music-right to the meat and taters. Great video! My old 93 Escort is pulling to the left with inside LF tire wear so I'm thinking I might have a busted spring. These cars refuse to die if you give them a little TLC now and then. Gave $700 for mine over 5 years ago, best buy I've ever made.

      Thanks : )
      If your front left tire is worn on the insidepart of the tread ,i would say that you have too much toe out on this tire.
      I would check the tie rod if there is some play,or simply the bushing on the control arm of this side.
      Usually suspension is involved when you have weird wear pattern on the center or the whole tread area.
      look : www.google.fr/search?tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=kdRPWpmUCImhUYn_tIgC&q=tire+wear+pattern&oq=tire+wear+pattern&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0j0i30k1l5j0i5i30k1l4.151329.157893.0.158127.19.19.0.0.0.0.110.1478.17j2.19.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.5.404...0i19k1j0i13i5i30i19k1j0i13k1j0i13i30k1j0i13i5i30k1.0.VZ708Pk7g1c

    Great video and job. I would've changed the dust cover and the other rubber parts while I had it apart because they don't cost that much and I wouldn't want to take it apart a couple of years later to replace those. If it's not your car or you don't plan on holding it for much longer than that may be an acceptable route to take. My preference for installing a tire is to tighten the bolts as much as I can by hand before setting the car down then standing on the wrench for the maximum tightening after. Good job and you are quick considering all you had to work with is hand tools. Great work.

    • @michaelovitch
      @michaelovitch  Před 7 lety +4

      Yes,it's a trick ,but you can't always do that,because the strut expand and you are in trouble to remove it then.

      Thanks : )
      Yes i've heard about them.
      Nitril are stronger if i'm right,never tried tho.
      I don't use them because i tear them very quick,i sweat like a pig in it,i prefer coton gloves or nothing,i feel things better.
      I run a soap/detergent factory on the side too ,so i buy my own products and i'm rich now because of my filthy hands : )
      But my mom still kick my ass because i ruin all my clothes.
      lol
      Have a nice Christmas and don't die of chocolate abuse : )

    LOL quite funny to watch you struggling with that center nut. What you do is to loosen it from the top whilst it is still on the car and whilst the 3 bolts are still holding it for you. You half undo it before taking the strut off, then it is simple to unscrew the rest of the way when on the ground. Over wise it's a really great video.

      Thank you : )
      Not possible on this car,the spring is quite compressed in the strut.
      If i do that i will can't remove the strut from the control arm,not enough room,the control arm will not go low enough.
      On others cars it would work for sure.

      @cjwaywell Před 8 lety

      +michaelovitch I suspected as much but it might have been worth telling people with other cars that it is sometimes possible to slacken off the nut first.
