This movie is very hard to find. I spent time in Newport and learned much about Doris Duke. If it wasn’t for her, much of the historical places in that town wouldn’t exist. Her home there is magnificent, her designer clothes in displays are remarkable designer pieces. Mixed in with all that opulence are shades on lamps from JC Penney. Rather eccentric in many ways. They (being the historical society, guides, etc are not to discuss aspects of her “personal” life. Read Too Rich, the book bc it’s got some spice. The works of art she collected are beyond belief. She was an orchid fanatic, she created one which is to this day available in certain nurseries. Quite remarkable woman, very tall (at nearly 6 ft), intelligent but never considered herself pretty. She was crazy competitive. Her family’s wealth and philanthropy enormous.
I would like to have seen how the following 3 years played out for Bernard before his time came. How did he live and what did he do with all of the sudden income? Shandi did well for herself. A 700 acre ranch and 65 million dollars. Can't help but wonder where things went from there. 😮 🤔
She embodied the saying "It's lonely at the top," she was surrounded by snakes, including her own family. The only ones truly portrayed as caring were her dad, the nurse, and 2 kitchen staff members.
It must be awful to have all that money.. Ms Duke even said "when people look at me they see dollar signs" In high school it's "you have a car I'll be your friend" if you are wealthy it's "you have a trust fund, I'll be your friend"
Never really felt genuinely loved for herself other than her father. Interesting story and Bacall did her gracious excellent job. Chamberlain wasn't bad either. Makes me glad I'm middle classed. Definitely no one wants me for my $. There isn't any 😂😅
