One last suggestion... The drive pulley that moves the laser carrier, the one moving the x-axis. Can you check to make sure that pulley is held tightly to the shaft? If that were a flat shaft, and the grub screw is working it's way looser, I could see this happening. But I understand your frustration.
On my new Phecda, I had issues Y-axis issues, too. Turned out a screw on the "optical shaft assembly" (the long steel rod that connects Y-axis motor on the left to the belt on the right) coupling came loose and made the Y-axis sloppy. The coupling has two screws on it; both must be very tight, as it is under frequent back and forth rotation.

I have one with same issue. The problem is where the pully connects with the metal rod. Its slipping in the mount. Mine is 1 week old and going back
