    In todays video i share my experience with using the Nike Vaporfly next% and Nike Alphafly next% over the last year. I go over my races, the uses in my training/shoe rotation as well as which running shoe I would pick if i could only use one. I've now ran over 500miles in both shoes. Interesting I have the same use case for these shoes. Alphafly is very good long run shoe, Vaporfly for intervals or threshold runs. To me these shoes are tools I dont care about the price as long as they make me enjoy running. I know lots of ppl save them for racing only and at the same time they have like ten pair of "cheaper" daily trainers for no reason. The cheapest shoe I usually use is the Novablast for recovery runs, as it has similar soft cushioning as the Alphas.

I'm 55 and run around 35 mins for 10k so slower than you but also weigh 72 kilos ( love excuses - if I weighed 50 kilos...). My shoes look like your shoes at 150k but I can get 800k out of them with a lot of shoe glue and other loving care.

    I just bought the Nike Tempo Next% Vaporfly which is also a carbon plated shoe. I do not race at the moment and so I mainly use it for tempo and threshold training. I personally normally stay clear of training in my carbon plated shoe (endorphin pro) but I have no reason to do so other than I’m not too clued up on the science behind it all and don’t want to risk injury and manipulating my gait on a higher % of my runs. That said I’ve never had any issues with them and may start using them a bit more to get that money’s worth!

    I too got the left foot pain with the Alphaflys. My heart sank when I got the pain within minutes of first use. After reading around reddit, I took out the insole (it was glued in and a hassle) and replaced it with Endorphin pro insole (basically one with the thickest arch support). It has made it loads better so I'm looking forward to finally using it for a half marathon in 2 weeks. Good to know you do get somewhat used to it.

I agree with the point that all athletes want to use the best gear available, so the "VF/AF only for races opinion" is a bit silly. I currently only have a VF2 and a NB Fuelcell TC for my training. So these are 2 carbon-plated shoes. But wondering if a third shoe (like a Pegasus) might be helpful.

    I'm brand-spanking new to running. I've been researching shoe rotations and models. It seems all the running pundits say not to train in carbon soled shoes. Price aside, I don't see a reason why one couldn't. I imagine a new runner might not make the most of the energy return, or they might overwork their calf muscle because they aren't working the shoe as intended (snail's pace). I'll be testing this theory as I've picked up a pair of vaporfly 2, which I intend to use as trainers after a month [or two] of training 😀

    I find the Zoom TEMPO to be something in between the Alphafly and the Vaporfly. Not as soft and shifty as the former, and because of that they are more responsive and stable when there are sharper turns in the race course. They are also £100 cheaper at most retail places.

      I’ve never tried the tempo after having the alpha in my rotation but maybe I should look into getting some tempos. Thanks for the insight Angelo

      @@BenIsRunningI would encourage you to give them a try ;) I've a 30+ shoe collection and the tempo are my fav for training, I feel they are more comfortable than the Alphafly and less bulky (even if they are higher stack) and they are more durable (because more rubber) .. you also get used to an heavier shoe so the Alphafly feels faster/lighter on race day ... and they are cheaper ;)

    Jacob Ingebritsen says the carbon plate discussion is silly. He says you wanna run as much of your running as fast as possible, and the carbon plate is helping with that. In any sports athletes uses the best gear available, and there is no reason why runners should not. So he uses them _all_ the time.
    It also reduces stress on the body meaning faster recovery time meaning shorter time till you can “go hard” again.
    For us “normal runners” there is of course a money aspect to it, and I shave to say I am doubtful of how much it helps with a carbon plated shoe on the easy/recovery runs… maybe the bondi x could have a say in this topic.
    I use carbon plates in my rotation, but other shoes on slow long runs and easy runs.
    When it comes down to it I think that all runners can make up their own opinion and whatever what that opinion is is right for them.

    • @BenIsRunning
      @BenIsRunning  Před 2 lety +2

      I get where your coming from but it stays I’m afraid. With the CZcams algorithm, it promotes videos that get high viewer duration ie if someone watches the whole video that’s 100% viewer duration. Having the clip at the start encourages people that may have clicked off the video in the first 10-30 seconds to continue watching. Hope that gives you an insight into why I edit in this way. You’ll just have to skip the first bit 😂👊🏻
