- Epic Siege of Tricks and Traps! - Total War: Rome 2
The year is 46BC, the largest and most beautiful of all cities, Pulpedeva now glints in the eyes of General Marcus Terentius Varro Lucullus. Younger brother of Lucius Licinius Lucullus and proud supporter of Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix Dictator Legibus Faciendis et Reipublicae Constituendae Causa (Dictator of Rome). General Marcus is keen to make his mark for the glory of the empire and his family and cement his name in stone for a millennia.
Rome has presented an indomitable force of 20 Cohorts of 10,000 trained professional soldier and proclaim that Pulpedeva must be subdued and forced to submit under glorious imperial rule. Supported by the elite Pretorian Guard, Rome’s legionnaires have no time for walls, flesh or mercy. Rome will have what Rome wants.
The defenders, the oh foolish defenders, an army of mercenaries, lost barbarians fighting for food, desolate slaves choosing the sword over the whip, the adept gorillas of Lusitania all paid for by a wayward Egyptians seeking to expand beyond the harsh seas of sand and death have been charged to fight and defend Pulpedeva.
This battle will not be about winning or losing, just holding and surviving

Wow that was one of the best siege battles i ever seen
Thank you 😁😁😁
Vitaliy Wolf you bet it was
Agreed.
So it would seem
Vitaliy Wolf the calv could have been used a bit better but overall the defenders did well it was def fun to watch
3:02 some guy poor Lustani warrior got body slammed 😭😭
I seen that to😂😂
AfghanKid top nfl trucks of all time
Jajajaja epic
and you sawed that too lmao
THIS! THIS IS A SIEGE! The best I have seen in ages. It required risky tactics, diversion (placing Egypt's defenders in that walled corner which you had to admit I thought was the VP) the ambush was just epic and since then Rome just struggled against the Kush. What a battle! Great fun.
Thanks man glad you loved the battle. I saw they enemy all went rome so I knew we could not win a one on one melee fight. Not with a general still alive and skirmisher support so I decided to experiment with the luisitani
@@jamesminter70 You played in the video?
@@zoetje9817 I played the luisitani in this match. Haven't touched the game much on the last couple of years but come back to this video every now and then to relive the glory. After I lost most of my army in that opening ambush I had started micro managing my 2 other teammates (the kush player and I had played together many times already at that point so I trusted him) the guy who played the arverni didn't have a YT yet but now he does Joeonit where he covers total war and other war games you should check him out and the Egypt player was just a newer kid. This is probably my greatest match in terms of entertainment and my 2nd best in terms of tactics.
@@jamesminter70 Well, it’s very exciting to watch! I’ll check out his channel, sounds fun.
I'd just destroy the city and make it farmland, cause DANG that will be some FERTILE land.
Nyxion lol
Were ur ancestors vikings or mongols😂😂
don't let the Kush, loose, aboot your hoose.....
This Siege was absolutely epic and your commentary was amazing keep up the good work! ;-)
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
I think I just am naturally inclined to root against Rome
That's usual I think. My best guess is just how history is told. It's like the kid with a massive ego writing its own story. And then getting his shit clapped. *Every one liked that* even thousands of years later.
The romans are actually the only faction that I root for whose game name is based around. In Napoleon I root against France, and in Attila I root against the Huns.
I'm the opposite
same, also UK in NTW3
Legit. Also cause they're so fkn op as a faction so its boring to see them win everytime. Nothing like getting rear charged by naked warriors to put them in their place lol.
This entire battle we didnt think we could win until the last 5 minutes we had hope. #UNCLUTCH
James Minter i thought for sure rome had it
Apollo's most used sentence by FAR: "Lusitony..? LusiTAHNI, excuse me.."
How many times can one make the same mistake yet still never learn.. 😂😂
Kush is anti-Rome in Rome 2 as they have the shotel warriors which are armor-piercing
Ironfist20 And some anime like unrealistic big Bow Bow.
yeah, the Kushite general unit also has an extremely high melee defense. I wonder what would've happened if he brought armored shotel warriors
The cultists also Kush is just countering rome hard
You and your kushite slave spam
@@rrabbits4164 Armored shotel are good, but expensive. If its high funds i bring 2. Rest shotel, and kushite archers. Its a really good faction, but the units are expensive.
If they bring rome or a very good defensive faction, I bring Kush.
This seige was real illumination of how traps and tactics are applied.Keep up the good work
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed
The defenders relly put new mening in the phrase "the best defense is a good offens" xD
Best siege for a long time, and loved the way the defenders worked together and just cool calculated strategic moves all the way through. And hitting the enemy before they expected it, really did a strike to Roman Moral. Great battle and Defenders do win
This is honestly the best siege battle I have ever seen
I am 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% terrible at total war myself (the small percentage I do know is “pike good at chokepoint. Cav good at flank. Archers good at kill pike. Pointy stick good against horse” and “archer on hill good with infantry at bottom”
As u can see I am not very experienced as I just got into it but I have actually learned a LOT from these vids
10/10 (no sarcasm)
Fuck that's more then me I just click and watch my men run hajahha
Lmfao
Yeah thats pretty much it
Excellent, probably one of the best siege battles ever. Action right off the bat and did the fighting did not pause at all. Action from start to finish literally.
“The poor lions they had to wear to kill that”
Go home Apollo, you’re drunk
Hahaha I about died
No, you're drunk.
30:30
@@meadknight1127 i think he said that earlier
Shaso 1008 He said “Those poor lions they had to kill to wear that” YOU should should go home because YOU’RE drunk.
36:00 that horse just standing in the middle of that infantry fight 😂
I hate seeing the Averni player not counter charging. He is nerfing his own units but not availing them of there large charge bonus .
That sally out was epic! Too bad they didn’t stick it through, that could have been a major early win. Overall best siege battle I’ve ever seen...
The artillery missing that huge blop of praetorians was so frustrating
Just binge watching dozens of your videos. Still think this one is the most fascinating.
28:40 i made that mistake too and learned it the hard way. I just assumed that the "inner Keep" must have been the victory point so i pushed all of my men and woman into the keep and defending it and gave it a great shot at certain victory, untill the enemy captured the victory point. i was so mad!
been there done that, allong with ignoring the chat were my team mates were trying to convince me from otherwise xD
lets just say you play that map, make that mistake once and then never again xD
I don’t think they have any female characters in this game..
@@Mister3Pac jup they have. Rome has some Gladitrices.
That was really a epic battle, probably one of best siege i seen, i love this video so much.
this was the greatest siege video you've uploaded. Such team working and strategic tactics made the hole video just gorgeous.
If you'd like to join them join his discord because that's what we (defenders) used to use voice comms
@@jamesminter70 thanks mate!
The action did not stop for this battle. One of the best replays ive seen :D
Hands down one of the best siege battles you've posted
I love your commentary and the battle was epic I can't wait to see more thank you for all of the epic battles Apollo
After watching your Ryse Son of Rome series im happy the Praetorian guard took casualties at the start but sad the general got "melted" thinking of Varias (probably spelt wrong)
Ahhh good old siege week with amazing tricks.
This reminded me of a battle I played yesterday. Defenders were insistent upon night and fog settings. I deployed as Rome on the other side of the settlement, while my allies deployed together. Immediately when the game started three armies of barbarians come out of the fog and I had 0 chance
I guess I’m reinstalling Rome 2 again, for the fourth time.
When you see an entire army get slaughtered and there is still 20 minutes left
Of all the videos I've seen this is still one of the wildest sieges ever.
Probably the best battle Ive seen yet tactically, great job by the defense.
Amazing turn around from the defenders. Love these kinds of battles!!!
Lol the elites of kush coming out
*very light infantry
They are elite, low damage but high attack, they need a meatshield to protect them and they get tired very fast but they do very well and getting kills in
I’m pretty sure that artillery in the beginning killed more friendly targets than enemy...
It was really pissing me off, it’s like the AI was aiming for its allies
I am at 0:23 just gotta say i have never seen a youtube video where the defenders won, without the attackers doing very hard mistakes.... hope this vid will turn my mind around ._.
That really great sir apollo the fight is everywhere and surprise attacks this siege was really awesome sir i really love it
Good old days when Appolo was still uploading epic sieges of rome 2, those days are sadly past
yeah, sorry I dont agree where CA is taking Total War. I just cant support the company anymore.
Okay I love this battle. This is the first one I could call movie level epic.
This is the most I speak in riddles and answer in rhymes battle I have ever seen
Egypt and Kush showed exceptional skill. First there was that ambush at the beginning. Then Egypt used their cavalry very well and avoided what was strong while attacking what was weak. Then they used that small walled in area as a military fort, which, due to its proximity to the victory point, made the defense stronger. Kush meanwhile was defending the victory point and used their strengths to hold choke points. Both players also used their cav to hit their engaged enemies in the back.
unbelievably cool battle! More like this one please
This is now my favourite Rome 2 a Total War Battle.
Thanks pixe I have been watching your videos since I was in 6th grade now I am in 10th grade and your videos are still great
That was an incredible example of defeat in detail. Bravo
That was intense from start to finish!
Amazing Siege battle! Never a dull moment
ahhhh I enjoyed this so much
thank you .
One of the coolest battles I've seen in Apollo's channel
This reminds me of my first siege battle ever. Had a huge support army, ready to play, and got a sally out and was completely destroyed
I came back an watched this video and when he Said that he didnt know kush for being OP i was laughing my Ass of🤣🤣
Excellent defense in depth and recycling of units. Also cav getting skirmishes early and then waiting til Rome forgot about them to come aid in the end.
Drinking game. Drink a shot of vodka every time Apollo says "Lucitoni" instead of "Lusitani"
Have fun
At this point, Apollo has me saying “lucitoni” as well 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That was intense, another classic battle.
Loving seige week great series so far
Lets get some Rome 2 with a reinforcement siege
Thanks
This makes me want to get a Rome campaign going
I watch the whole video and eat some snacks. It is worthed. Epic, totally epic
Intense battle. Pikes and heavy shotel warriors are godly
more like this mate it was awesome
One of the best siege battle i ever seen so much tactics here
One of the best I've seen....brilliant tactics from the defenders
Thanks grant 😁
Wow just wow what a battle such intensity I didn't see a battle like this in at least a month the defenders played almost perfectly and that ambush God that was so cool and I think that ambush has decided who the victor will be the attackers still should have pushed a lot harder and sooner anyway love your work man continue on with the good job I am hoping to start doing what you do in a couple of months after I finish my studies I will love to talk to you on Skype or line if you prefer and get some tips from you if you're willing 😊😊 really admire your work
Thanks man glad you lived the battle!
Fantastic! So entertaining.
Hey @PixilatedApollo dude this is easily one of my favorite battles in your catalog, cuz you never knew until the very end who was going to win! it was always hella close.
When we were playing we didn't think we'd win until the last 5 minutes
Nice win, for a tiny second it looked like the attackers might win, but the defenders did a great job over near the victory point. GG to everybody in the video.
Running trees? Man, Rome 2 has ents 😂 Jks! Respect Apollo!
Still loving your videos.
I love the Rome 2 videos👍🏼
One of my favorite battles so far
Thats the most aggressive and the most claver strats i ever saw
Thanks my dude
You guys should watch the greatest Three Kingdom battles. They’re all incredible but one of them is literally a battle between Gods
One of the best so far
I like to see players suceed with factions that are not that common. Good one!
Another awsome video pixie poo keep it up
ok, let's just stop sending lusitAAAAAni replays to Apollo. It's really not funny anymore xD
35:10 Oh don't even bother mate :P
EDIT: Amazing battle from start to finish. Only the second day of siege week but the bar has been set very high.
Well, that was an amazing victory against the odds I'd say, & I so love seeing Romans coming to grief against these kind of faction confederations :)
Great video apollo! have you taken a look at nordos faction unlocker?
Love you work
One of the best I’ve seen
The opening to this was a good tactic. Especially since you had 3 good armies still within the walls. The Lusitani did great with going out and damaging that Roman army.
The defenders definitely used everything advantage they could get.
Oh yea one thing tho. When playing as Rome and using praetorian guard against pikes, put you unit into attacking testudo formation it will increase their defensive stats and will allow you to hold a bit longer. I’ve done it many times using Rome in a head on fight with pikes.
Then get another unit to flank. Trust me it will work.
So awesome!!
testudo, this mysterious one.
If you're wondering, Apedemak was the Kush warrior god, who was depicted with a lion's head, and that's why the Disciples of Apedemak wear animal headdresses.
That early rush, I have never seen it before but I hope it isn't the last of it
One hell of a siege. I've found that Kush can be an incredibly potent faction, especially in sieges and against Rome. Great archer units, good cavalry, and the Shotel Warriors are armor piercing, which is great against Roman Legions
Yeah they're OP as all fuck
great starting he did a good job
Awsome Battle Pixie
That was the best tactics I've ever seen from the yellow army. Genuis player
I mean I wouldn't say genius. They were just clever enough to play off of two of the Roman player's massive mistakes and constant screw-ups....not genius at all.
I love watching all these battles but when is time to play I completely suck.
in defensife position but act like attacker really smart for micro controling that cavalary
Apollo please post a crappy siege. How are we supposed to pick a favorite when they have all been awesome so far. Love it!
Turn on subtitles it’s so funny ..... apparently the sounds of roman soldiers attacking a city being killed and killing , are ‘music’ and ‘applause’
One of my favorite !
The best one
