I have my hatch gate open and exposed right now actually, That's why I noticed the vapor barrier is missing on 4Runner in the video. How necessary is that vapor barrier anyway? If it wasn't there I could pop my tailgate open from the inside when I'm car camping. I'm in the high dry west and water vapor isn't really a thing out here. Bob in Colo.

Thanks for the video, was helpful. I had a bolt breakdown at the window attachment drilled it out and use a 1/4 fender bolt with a nut on the back side. While putting the window up it would reach the top and go back down automatically. After a closer look, the wiper was down just far enough to be in the way for the window to slide into the weather seal. 😅. Just mentioning this in case it might help someone else.

Thanks for your video very well done, I use it for my 5th generation 4Runner (2010) and it works very well. I have replaced the window regulator, but I have made one mistake. I have cut the 2 tierap before I install the motor on the regulator assembly. Many hours spend finding how to rewind the wire. Don’t cut it before bolting the motor. I was lucky to have had your video.

Thank you for doing this video. Easy to follow. I actually have a 2004 XUV tailgate regulator to replace, and could not find a video about it.

Thank you for this helpful video. I will replace mine. It broke while camping. I used a foam pool noodle to hold up the glass until we got home.

I have an ‘03 4Runner. Tailgate only opens when the car is on and the back window has to be normalized every time you start the car to get the auto feature working. If you use the key fob when the car is off, the truck just beeps once. Would replacing this fix that issue?

Mine only worked with the truck running too... Then it broke... Maybe just needs a nice smooth ride on a new regulator then she'll go. We'll see

Toyota design is simple and better for being so. I've done Ford and Mercedes regulators and they are a lot more difficult. Ford uses rivets to attach glass to regulator which are a little nerve racking to drill out. Mercedes is worse, they use steel rivets which are a pain to drill out and then replace with nuts and bolts for re-installation. Toyota is all 10mm for everything.
