    Worked like a charm. Haven’t had a useful rear wiper in years until now. Great tip.

    Nice! Used a ball joint separator to pull the old/rusty arm and replace with aftermarket arm and was SUPER disappointed that the new arm/spring was so horrible. Took me about 10 min to pull the arm, spring, trim plastic, and reinstall. It’s WAY better and presses the new arm/wiper blade flush against the glass.
    Thanks man!

      Creative, solution for pulling off the splined rod, well done.
      Glad it helped!

    Wow, just great. Thanks for sharing the tip! I had the exact same issue with an after market arm. I was lazy and even managed to cut the extra plastic without removing the spring. No more wiper envy!

    I'm gonna have to give this a shot. The winter grime is killing my ability to ever see out the rear window. I will also say that I am impressed by your ability to work on car stuff in a white jacket, as well as the amount of rope you have hanging over there.

      Hahaha I’ll be honest that’s the work/don’t care jacket and I run cold and hate being cold and that thing is real warm.
      Good luck with it. Feel free to let me know how it goes

    Worked like a charm. I didn't remove the spring. Instead I used my dremel to grind down the end of the arm instead of sawing it. Also FYI- the nut is 10mm. Thanks for the excellent tip to repair this!

    I just bought a 2003 4Runner. I've never owned a vehicle with a rear wiper and I'm a really old fart so I guess I won't miss it, but thanks for the video. Heck, I don't even know how to turn it on!

    • @NykevOfficial
      @NykevOfficial  Před rokem

      Haha well don’t live under your privileges! You bought the car, use it up! The switch is on the front wiper stalk, it’s a ring that you rotate instead of moving stalk up and down.

      @@NykevOfficial you know I won't remember that. It rarely rains in California except for this year. I recently found out how to turn on the fog lights! I showed my GF how to turn on her 2001 4Runner fog lights and she didn't realize she had those!

    Maybe put some anti seize on the screw when you put it back on and coat the whole thing with grease so it won't rust it solid the next time you have to remove it.

      Totally would but I no longer have the TL anymore. I’ll look to see if I don’t have any old videos and if I do I’ll post em up.

    So the nut nonferrous my wiper that is holding it on is like welded one piece

    • @NykevOfficial
      @NykevOfficial  Před 2 lety

      Dang. Options I could think of: impact wrench, but I’d worry you might spin the entire shaft. Soak in liquid wrench. Heat. Grind/cut away the nut with a Dremel.
      Good luck

    Nice hack! Wouldn’t installing a new spring achieve the same results without having to modify the arm?

    • @NykevOfficial
      @NykevOfficial  Před rokem

      Hmmm potentially, question is where to source one though… and at what price

    • @Johnstravelvlog
      @Johnstravelvlog Před 6 měsíci

      I don't think so, because I replaced my whole assy and it was streaking as bad as his was in the beginning of the video. The new assy was no better than the one it replaced.

    • @NykevOfficial
      @NykevOfficial  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Correct, now that I think about it a newer tighter spring wouldn’t make any difference because the spring wasn’t the issue. The issue is that internal arm being too long and not allowing the arm to articulate far enough to reach the window.
