I saw Talking Heads 4times in the 1980s. The best time was Brixton academy in London 1984 with the B52S as the support band. Nice one

For me when the " Talking heads" released the "Fear of music" album it was obvious to me that they had reached a musical level that was dripping in Creativity and Originality. The grooves on these new songs here so irresistible, so catchy, I could not help myself from not listening to the "Fear of Music" album at least once a day for a very long time. Of course after a few of the fear of music albums release it was apparent I was not the only one out there who felt this way about the Heads. There musical direction had completely changed, from writing quirky little melodies with strange lyrical content to writing songs with beautiful melodies with very cool(and sometimes) very touching lyrics. Songs like "Heaven" to "Electric Guitar" to "Cities" all so different from each other yet all so brilliantly written, arranged , and played it's hard for me to think of where music in late 1970s would be like if not for the influence the "Talking Heads"

Saw them in the same period at the Paradiso Amsterdam. They played a similar set of songs. Loved the transition to this more frightening sound compared to the '77 album. One could already expect them to make the beautiful transition to the sound of Remain in light. This concert leaves me the same feeling I had then : Flabbergasted.

As per my post in the 'Paper' video, the Boston show in August '79 at Berklee , which probably this same set list, began...'This is Oedipus.Live over the airwaves of WBCN...we have NO FEAR OF MUSIC TONIGHT...NONE..XXX RECORDING ARTISTS...Talking Heads...' I still remember it and can hear it in my head...Just looking for a copy of that show

One of the best gigs ever. Support was a very early U2 and OMD. Hot, sweaty and 'electric' atmosphere

yeah - I think this was the night I went as well. Talking Heads were brillant, even though David Byrne was acting like a total pratt, coming on beforehand and banging a snare drum for about 20 minutes. Bono did his "bumming a cigarette from the audience then acting like he'd been handed the apple by the serpent in the garden of eden spiel..." - he was still doing the same act about a year later when I saw U2 at Leeds Fan Club (supported by The Sound?)

Fear of music.... What a fantastic collection of songs. Also a swan song for the worlds number one college band. Their sound at the time so raw musically and Byrnes lyrics so bereft of traditional constraint. At times, More like internal conversations to deal with unresolved issues..... Mind, Cities, paper
And the stand out track. Electric Guitar.
Commercial distraction was to follow... Broader audience but diluted product:(

Wonderful - brings back lots of memories. The sound of a band at their peak.
I was at the Electric Ballroom last night, and we were reminiscing about the best shows we had seen there "back in the day". I think this one came top so I was delighted to find it here. I remember seeing OMD on the night but must have totally missed U2, as I hadn't realised they were on the bill until today. (U2 also supported T Heads in 1980 at Hammersmith shows. Missed them then as well!)

Some notes: This is one of the final concerts from the Fear of Music
Tour, among the last shows as the four-piece band. This is the first
of two nights, the shows were opened by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The
Dark and U2. Found a Job cuts in near start of the first verse after a
tape flip. It's a strange show, some technical difficulties, a little
dis-jointed...after Life During Wartime, David tells the crowd not to
bother clapping, the show is over, and they skip Take Me To the River.
(Small file size due to mono WAV data, no MP3 in this audio.)
THANKS to Hans for making this excellent recording available...enjoy!

this show keeps quitting on me, the bar at the bottom says the video is over, ends at 28 minutes when it quits. it says it's 23 minutes long when it quits. it says it's 43 minutes when it ends, but every time i refresh it the bar says the whole show is 63 minutes, until it mysteriously ends again. it's not freezing, it just has seemed to change its mind when it is done. is this just for me?
this is a really awesome show. well worth the patience.

I don't understand why some posts have a reply option and others don't.... I'd like to say that (1) I agree with Howard Smedley and (2) replying to fcinter67: yes, the Electric Ballroom is still open under the same name (unlike, say, Koko a short way up the road, which used to be the Music Machine then the Camden Palace, over the same period).
