My wife and I made the decision a few months ago to live the traditional family life. I have three jobs while she stays home to watch over the garden, chickens, and house. It's been working out great! She's been churning out quarts of fresh tomato sauce and veggies like it's going out of style. We go to Dollar General on Saturdays to take advantage of the $5 off when you $25 or more. So, we get $25-$30 worth of pasta and put it away in storage. We also work at the family deer processing store during deer season. Each of our limits are 12 deer...so, that's 24 deer-worth of meat which goes into the freezer for the year. She's beginning to understand the concept that growing your own food is almost like printing money. Actually, with the price of fresh food today it's more valuable than money.

You can darn sure try to prepare.
    Not trying is not acceptable.
The negative mindset guarantees you will not survive.
Our ancestors survived, even thrived, or we wouldn’t be here.
Every single day we should ask ourselves, “What resources do I have available to me today? What resources will I need tomorrow? What resources will I need in 3, 6 or 12 months? How can I meet those needs?”
    Always being preparedness minded.

My wife used to think I was a little nuts. Then came the great toilet paper shortage of 2020. We had plenty stocked in the basement. Now she is far less critical of my prepper mindfulness. Before I retired from as a DoD civilian employee, I had a sign on my cube wall. "Those the say something cannot be done, should not interrupt the person doing it". Just joined your Patron group. See you over there.

My friends and family looked at me like I was nuts. When shtf hit and there was a shortage of most essential goods, I was blessed enough to give toilet paper, paper towels, wet wipes, and other goods to my coworkers and family. They don’t look at me like I’m nuts anymore. They actually ask for advice with prepping now. I give out prepping gifts for Christmas (fun gifts too) but they enjoy the gifts because it’s stuff they’ve never thought of.

My family make 'bunker' jokes, and they don't know even half of what I have. Hubby and I eat keto/carnivore, but I've stocked rice, beans, flour, pasta, sugar, honey, dried fruits, etc. We also have lots of fruit trees and berry bushes on our little urban patch, have most of our yard in veggie beds, and have chickens. I've got dehydrated and canned foods as well as store bought. Not a day goes by that I don't do something to improve our preparedness position, even if it's only adding recipes and instructions to my recipe books and manuals. (I'm expecting my grandchildren will need these one day. We've also installed a wood stove even though we have a heat pump and solar panels. We have ebikes and normal bikes, and I've bought new sneakers, underwear etc. Neither of us take any medication and we're working at keeping it that way! Don't stop people!

Even worse, not even bothering to prepare in any form or capacity incase something like an EMP happens.

What a quote. This conversation reminds me of the Decay of Politics. It starts with a strong leader, who over time is turned into a tyrant. The tyranny is taken over be the few, who become greedy and fracture into factions. The factions lead to the government of a Republic (the most perfect of the stages and where we find ourselves in,) but this Republic corrupts into a democracy (which classically and conservatively is a bad thing.) finally, this democracy collapses into anarchy which gives rise to the aforementioned strong leader, and the cycle continues. We have the misfortune of living in a nation that is transitioning into a new form of governance. Some changes occur painlessly, however, ours I do not believe will be so lucky. Good discourse and videos! On to the next one as I have a few to catch up on.

Everyone who prepares, should create a 3 ring binder for the rest of the family/MAG that allows them to proceed in your absence. I have a three ring binder with 14 sections: PrePlanning, Day 1 Action Items, Food, Water, Shelter, Security, Medical, Communications, Hygiene, Transportation, Energy, Community, Team Morale, BUGOUT (Last Resort). These sections are customed to my situation. Then delegate these sections to team, for example, my 28 year old 10th Mt. VET is my Security chief. He already over rode my initial plan of 3 man perimeter patrols that I wrote up, and replaced it with DRONE surveillance. My 30 year old Marine VET son is on Water and Energy. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.

If you were to have a pallet of just rice and beans (64 5-gallon buckets), then two people could have two 8oz "cooked" meals a day for seven years. Not ideal, but you can build around it. Add canned meats, coffee, tea, sugar. 5-gallon buckets of rolled oats are cheap. Point being is that you could dedicate one room in your house, then you could survive a collapse and eat better than 99% of the rest. There's a lot more to it, but you don't need a warehouse and a million dollars to survive.

For the past ten years or more there have been countless people saying to get prepared. Most people would have been prepared by now if they would have been doing what they were advised as in just add one or two extra cans each time you get groceries. I know painfully well that there are some people who really can't do it but they are so much the exception and not the rule.

      @thedinosauromelette Před měsícem +2

Have you done an assessment of your area? Frankly the idea of water storage is out of the picture for any long term situation. It’s good to store water certainly but once it’s gone…
Where are your water sources? What is the precipitation throughout the year? A hand pump well is optimal: No power required. But you’ll have to dig a well. Water is definitely an absolute necessity. And not just for drinking. If storage is your only option at this time, then store. Transport of water is difficult and labor intensive. Best to have a source near home.

I’d like to suggest a topic that is not discussed and that is the cathartic effect or instigation of inaction that “prepper” videos induce.
I believe that after one hears a concurrent viewpoint the individual is satisfied to know they’re right . The anxiety is satiated and it’s back to the path of least resistance. There is definitely a discipline involved to pursue an endeavor that one may perceive has no or little immediate gratification. I suppose that’s where mindset feeds that perception of reward.
Anyway- good to hear sound observation on a subject which we have no real experience or frame of reference!
