    What I should do if something like this happens?
    this video is based on one of the scenarios that can happen in my area and I'm gonna show you my emergency plan to face the disaster. I think we all should come up with different emergency plans according to what could happen around where we live.
    This is the first Episode of a long SHTF Series.
    is there something would you do differently? River Crossing was the only option to keep the bug in process under a day.

    I have a plan where to walk to get from work to home, I have found out some bridle paths/footpaths to shorten the distance and avoid a dangerous road but completely forgot that I need to cross a river which ever way I go. Yes there are a couple of bridges I can use, but what would happen if one, or both of them was out. Just never crossed my mind before, we just take things like that for granted. I’m also not a great swimmer. I’m going to get a dry bag to use as a buoyancy aid to go in my get home bag.

    If you know you will likely have to cross a river, I would suggest having a flotation vest and helmet in your kit bag
    River crossing typically kill a lot of special forces people, its one of the most dangerous activities you can do
    Being prepared for situations is kind of the entire point of having a bag with gear in it
    Another option is to have a folding saw and cordage to make a very basic raft, it only has to get you to the other side. Being up on top of fast moving water is way safer than being in it

    • @mysterioanonymous3206
      @mysterioanonymous3206 Před měsícem +3

      Yeap. I'd also facilitate a way to have (or being able to steal) a damn bicycle. They get you places far away real quick with not that much exertion.
      15km is a leisurely ride on a good gravel/Mt bike. You can go uphill, downhill, on dirt roads, on a foot path... Almost anywhere.
      And you can easily carry them over obstacles or bring them over a river on an inflatable float.
      They're a much underappreciated mode of transport...

    • @driver3899
      @driver3899 Před měsícem +3

      @@mysterioanonymous3206 Yeah agreed, and damn stealthy too. Light enough to take on a well made raft as well
      Actually you could get one of those fold up paratrooper ones so it goes in the back of your car, set up 2 panier bags on it, one each side of the back wheel. One panier holds your bug out bag, the other one could hold floatation bladders and a tarp to make a quick raft. Not many places you couldn't go then

      @@AlexWander Haha no problem! You have a cool channel, look forward to see the evolution of your gear and ideas
      If you are interested in messing around with floatation or a coracle or improvised raft or whatever, a good rule to remember is 1L of trapped air will float about 1kg of weight. You can buy 10L unused wine bladders that fold up small and weigh very little. You can also get some pretty crazy fold up kayaks and inflatable kayaks now days too. I am sure there are a bunch of options

      Idk about special forces, but Marines are trained to use our waterproofed equipment for floatation, similar to what he did here. It also rings true on other channels ive watched.... andrew for instance on ranger survival and one of alex's colleagues.

    You requested viewers to suggest additional items or note what we wouldn’t carry. Here are my suggestions for additional items as well my thoughts regarding what not to carry.
    I would add: 1) Minimalist Personal hygiene kit-toothbrush, toothpaste, small soap bar, tooth floss, bandana, insect repellant, & sunscreen; 2) Minimalist Repair kit-Tenacious tape, safety pin, needle & thread; 3) Additional Medical kit-Ibuprofen, Tylenol, a few assorted bandages, Neosporin, Pepto Bismol, Imodium, &caffeine tablets.

    Cool series brother. Way to get people to be aware of scenarios that can happen, along with the tips to counter them. Crossing that flowing stream or river may be hunky dory during the warmer seasons, but boy of boy does one need a fire during the cold months just to survive after that. Some people can't even come close to understanding how much work is needed just with the camera alone and editing, so I appreciate and thank you for covering this topic. Hope you and your family are well these days bro. Take care, ciao!

    You need to pack a helmet and a flotation vest or dual use water bladder carrier/flotation device. since you have a river crossing. You will also need a second set if you plan to cross with company.
    River crossings would be something I would avoid after 48 hours post shift. Risks from debris, pathogens, pollutants, kill zone will complicate the crossing.

    Ein sehr schönes Video, perfekt in Szene gesetzt mit vielen Denkanstößen. Wenn bei dir der Fluss definitiv überquert werden muss, wäre vlt ein Packraft das richtige Wiegt nur 2-3 Kilo und du kommst sicher über den Fluss. Das Boot könnte man im voraus sogar in einem Fass verbuddeln, so das keiner es findet. Eine art Prepper Cache, dort könnten auch andere wichtige Dinge untergebracht werden. Ich denke da an ein 100 Liter Fass.

    My furthest point when at work is 60 km from home. As an electric train driver I'd really be in trouble if I had no transport. I've downloaded offline maps and when I see 15 hours walking time across a hostile city as my only option I dread the idea. Getting water and not mugged are my main concerns. 2 days I think if all goes well.

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  Před měsícem

      Thank you so much!
      Not sure in what city you live in but I can understand what trouble means in your case. I was wondering, as a train driver , did you ever think of using rail roads to reach safely the nearest point that leads to home? Just thinking out loud, In my humble opinion, if something major happened , train traffic should be shut ooff and rail roads would become the path of least restistance last but not least all the "Eyes" should be focused somewhere else , what do you think? Of course 60 km are a long way home and maybe for you a portable electric "vehicle" could be a plus for sure ! About water, if you have a Grayl geopress you can drink even the nastiest puddle you can find on the street , just prefilter the water quickly with a shemag or a t shirt and then press it into the grayl . The risk of Being mugged is a serious problem, as I've already said, I would find a less and unconventional beaten path even if it's against the law, you know we need to get back home to our family , this is our priority , 🙏

    What would you do if you had to get your family across that same river in a real life emergency ? I have to say you need a more stream line process one where if your wife and child had to get in that water or mother and father it wouldn't drag them down stream. Something more precise and safe.

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  Před měsícem +1

      I totally I agree with you, In that precise case I had to take a longer path (around 25 km more ) walking on the side of the river till a nature reserve center , “borrow” a small boat to go across the river and then go back home by foot. It would have taken way
      More Time , but definitely safer for my parents etc, hope It helps 🙏🏻

    Very nice planning! I also thought of this type of scenarios, but we are 2 adults and 2 kids. Exiting the city by car in case of major panic is a no go, all the roads will be blocked. I am terrified of having to flee to the unknown by foot, maybe even in the winter...

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  Před měsícem +1

      I can understand your point, if I would live in the city my main escape route would be train rail road, they always go outside of the ciiy, ther's no traffic and during an emergency situation governement will shut down train travel so that way is going to be a good way!

    Amazingly high quality video! Thanks for taking us along as you actually test your SHTF plans. Not sure what all the other plans entail, but I was thinking you might want to invest in a couple of inflatable boats. Keep one with you and one at your parents. This way if, based on the situation, it would be safer to go back to where you stay you would have a safer way to get your parents across the river. Just a thought… you’ve probably already thought of this. Anyway… thanks for the video; it definitely got me thinking!

    What I may ask is, if you know you might have to swimm across a river, why not having a trash bag - or using the poncho - to wrap all your gear and your cloth ,use it as a floating device, swimm naked and be dry on the other side..

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  Před 17 dny +1

      You are right, I didn’t use a trash Bag nor the poncho because all my gear is stored in a dry bag inside the pack so I can keep all my gear dry poncho included which I often use as a tarp during an emergency situation and there’s enough air trapped inside the drybag that makes my backpack a readily available flotation device , hope it helps 🙏🏻

      @AlexWander what's funny is over here in the UK you're seen as somewhat crazy for trying to plan for things going to shit. Like nothing could possibly ever go wrong. But when Covid hit, everyone panicked and it went crazy round here. That gave me my first hint of what would happen in a SHTF scenario.

    Your idea of crossing the river is risky. Here's a better option:
    - Buy 2-4 car inner tubes, a foot pump and a valve screwdriver.
    - Store the equipment in a dry place, such as a barrel.
    - Get small, foldable paddles.
    - On the other side of the river, hide your bike.
    This will ensure a safe and efficient crossing.

      @@AlexWander Inflated inner tubes can also serve as shelter and a place to sleep. There are other possibilities as well. Regarding the bike, there's nothing better than an electric bike with saddlebags or baskets mounted in the front. With 4 inner tubes, you can carry everything on a raft made of inner tubes. Few people talk about this, and I don't know why.
