- A 1972 Ford XA Falcon GT 351 four-speed stored away for 28 years! Not only did we find the car but we also tracked down the original owner that purchased it new in 1972, much to his surprise, as he never knew what happened to the car or where it went! Powered by a 351 Cleveland and backed by a 4 spd Toploader and 9 Inch, this Pepper Red GT sure is one very desirable machine!
The Ford Falcon GT is an Australian icon, starting off in 1967, known as the 'Mustang Bred' 289 powered XR GT Falcon, the name would continue for decades. One of the most memorable variants would have to be the XY GTHO Phase 3 for it's success in motorsport with drivers like Allan Moffat at the wheel, and also the mystery that surrounds the 1972 XA GTHO Phase 4 project that was shut down by the federal government.
At Master of Machines, we love cars, in fact, we love anything with wheels or an engine, from American Muscle Cars to Australian Muscle Cars, Race Cars and Classic Cars of all kinds and even Barn Finds. If it's fast, powerful, restored or hidden away in hibernation then we'll cover it, and in most cases, we'll even drive them! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Here's another one of our awesome finds, well worth the watch. czcams.com/video/PVAHhMsdXw0/video.html
Why don't YOU spend some $$$ to detail the car, give it a tune-up then film the end result ? YOU making some nice coin posting this video on CZcams so why not film another episode with the GT looking like its 1972 ? Cheap Aussies !
@@peterheeley8206 , the owner has plans to do so himself I’m told and we’d film it in a heartbeat if that were to occur. It needs a lot more than a detail, and at a much bigger budget than I’d ever make out of uploading these videos.
I am more impressed that the camera man was in there for 28 years too, just waiting for someone to open the garage! Well done. :)
This made spit my drink out it made me laugh that much
When a "barn find" isn't a barn find. Just a pair of clowns trying to copy the Americans and failing
@Rob Basque I believe you are missing the joke that is being made here
Did that camera guy, know he would be waiting 28 years for them to show up. top bloke for waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Retro Shockwave someone making a comment after an year ! Best comment of they year !!!!!
What a wonderful story, walking the streets trying to find the original owner, and then finding him. Brilliant!
Memories indeed. My mate Alan & I finished school in 1980 & he bought a two door XA coupe before he got his license. He did it up, racing harness etc. It was his pride and joy. I remember driving it once or twice. Good times.
I think what's really special about the XA in general is that it was the first Falcon with the Australian only look ..XR XT XW and XY still influenced by the American shape...I recall my Auntie's partner had a bright red 6 cylinder XA with the 250 crossflow and three on the tree in the mid to late 1970's and I was just a teenager at the time ..The wrap around cockpit style dash was incredible...Oh for another one now.......but this GT is amazing ...
You forgot to MENTION IT WAS ALSO THE WORST FALCON. EVER !
Love this. I owned an Aussie built 72 XA Falcon 500, copper bronze, tan vinyl top , bone coloured interior, bench seat , non power steering 302C column shift auto, back in the 80's . Wish I still had that car. I can't remember when I last saw an XA on the road here in NZ, correct that I saw a 2v 6cyl coupe a couple of weeks back but sightings are now few and far between around here.
Has an XA GS Fairmont coupe as my first car. 6 cylinder because dad rightly wouldn't let me have a V8. But I keep thinking lately a 2v 250 XA would be great car even if not produced as a 2V. Rare as hens teeth.
@@MegaROCKY001 The 2v 6cly pumped out about 160bhp and the special 2 barrel inlet manifold looked like a Chrysler 6 one with those seperate branches. Must of sounded mean on induction, as you say rare as cars.
"Rust never sleeps"
What a beast I hope she gets to take her rightful place again and gets restored back to her former glory please keep track of her journey also love your vids mate 👍👍👍
A true survivor. Don't change a thing. Aussie muscle. Rumour has it, it has Phase 4 bits on it ?????
Thoroughly enjoyed 👍 A really satisfying car 🚗.
I have only seen a handful of barn finds in my 55 years and this one is a good find.
😎👍🇦🇺
You will be hard pressed to find better IMO
@@MrMotorNerd you are very Wright my friend, the one's i have seen have been good but this one is the cake you can eat.

Wow Glenn , you keep finding those Aussie gems. Thanks mate .
Bty did I hear you do a voice over for an Aussie oil company?. When are we going to hear your commentary on races , speedway, mussel cars, Bathurst...... ?. Cheers mate thanks for keeping the dream alive.
Thanks Jason! Yes, Gulf Western Oil is one of my media creative clients, and in fact I'm also their company event representative for the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters series of which they are naming rights sponsor. :-)
I Love the XA Falcon...I just CANNOT BELIEVE that the owner, even after going to an auction where a HO Falcon sold for $600,000 dollars, that he did some research on his XA, where he would have learnt that this car was pretty valuable, that he has not had the car cleaned and put under a descent cover or better storage...It is Crazy...Its a Beautiful Car and should be given plenty of TLC.
He isn't a car person. No passion for cars, who else would just keep that like that. Even said it was his father that inspired him to shed it
Wonderful - My first car a XA 1972 - 250 - Nothing special but my first car!!! Love the Video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Friend of mine has a calypso green XA GT manual coupe. He bought it from a friend when it was near new. It was stored for about 25 years then he had a full nut and bolt restore done on it. Matching numbers and it is MINT. Won some big prizes at car shows including best restored. Drove it a few times about 40 years ago, great to drive and the faster you went the more it seemed to hug the road.
What a great story Glenn to reunite the original owner with this beautiful XA GT Sedan. Imagine if it was a RPO 83 as well, but still absolutely awesome.
I know of a barn find a Chrysler by Chrysler CH Hardtop with the rare Landau roof option & rare left hand mirror option.
Outskirts of Melbourne & it has been sitting since 1983 in the shed. Original 360 too.
Also second owner alter rare, export model to Sth Africa, 1970 Valiant VG factory V8, Regal Safari Station Wagon, fully factory optioned, fully dealer optioned, 66,000 miles all original paperwork including bill of sale, order form, white roof special.
The guy who has it is the second owner & has been sitting in the garage since 2005.
Suburban Melbourne.
Love these types of stories, old barn finds.
Great video for sure.
Awesome. Had me an xb gt, with factory air, pwr steer, and 4v heads. Sold it before the gt boom for $8500. Wish I had it now, not for the value, but for how much fun it was to drive and listen to.
Wow, great find. I had a xc gxl Fairmont 351 4 speed with 9inch rear, she was a weapon. It was a special order for one of the executive at the time, Wish I still had it. Just love when theses gems are discovered. Nice one.
What a find💯. I have a 73 Fairlane 500 original paint work. Just love fords
We men love our cars no matter what continent it may be.
"we men"???? as if you belong to an exclusive club? And to exclude women from loving such cars?
I drove an XA 302 coupe.........burnt orange.......dripping with good gear and much later I built an XB351 bored out.......... all the good gear, dragged it all over the place. Both went like the powers of p!ss ! See, girls can do cars just as well as boys!
But this barn find is amazing in that it doesn't have rust. I hope it is being driven with care now cos its worth a million bucks!! no joke!
@@ClissaT You were not included in my statement, it was directed to the publisher. Not hard to figure out?
Beautiful old cars 🚗😍
Great vid
Thanks Sunny! Hey, my son is subbed to your channel and loves your work! :-)
What a find👍👍👍
Awesome genuine Aussie muscle car, can't believe how it was left for 28 years, all this makes me feel emotional about the 1972 XA Fairmont 500 my late father bought brand new, it was in Mission Brown exterior I believe it was called, correct me if I'm wrong, and it was a Continental with a white vinyl roof , and extended to the rear doors, I was still too young when my father sold it, otherwise I would of wanted to keep it for myself, and I actually saw it at a local house after it was sold to another owner, I know my father's XA Fairmont 500 Continental was not close as important as the XA GT in this video, but if it still exists, and I could find it, I would buy it back.
All survivors are important, GT or not. Like you, I'd love to track down and buy some of my Dads past cars. Thanks for sharing that with us, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)
@@GlennEverittMasterofMachines , Very true, all survivors are important, I still remember the original number plate, and there was a similar one in my local area, but not Continental, spoke to the owner once, still must have a photo of it, but haven't seen it for a while.
Awesome car made even better with a great story behind it.
Great story.
Would love to see it running and all cleaned up.
As much as it makes good tv, the original owner would be heart broken to see his pride and joy collecting dust like this
Thanks again Glenn. Makes me wish I still had my XA GT coupe that was made in the same month 72 as mothball.
Wow great story Glenn thanks for covering this, loved this episode!
Great stuff Glenn, I remember watching this when it was on TV a few years ago, now watching them all again on CZcams. Keep up the good work! 👍
I remember riding in my friends fathers new 1972 falcon v8 with vinyl top when I was a kid, the seats were very plush and
You could bairly hear the engine even at
80 mph.
Thanks for the video of the Phase 3 Falcon, I remember from here in NZ the crackdown on high performance cars with the impending V8 Torana that never eventuated.
My mother worked for a General Motors dealer in Auckland from 74-81 whilst I was at school.
Keep up the period car videos.👌👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Glenn you'll never stop surprising us!!
As interesting as the car itself is, being able to establish the "chain of custody" and to actually see and hear these now ageing gentlemen is equally as absorbing. Good piece of tv production and a little gem for posterity.
Fella I work with has an xb gt in his mothers shed on a farm. Been there over 20yrs! Hopefully I can see it one day.
This was awesome to watch. Great to see a beautiful piece of Australian history. Can’t believe the stupid comments re the vid but it’s expected these days no doubt. Was wondering if you guys did actually make an offer to Neil the owner... If so, what’s the car worth these days? Cheers
Thanks for watching. No, we didn't make an offer. It'd have to be a big one if we did, that's for sure. :-)
@@GlennEverittMasterofMachines cheers for that 👍 hope you guys keep goin as there’s a huge audience for this type
I like the Datsun 1600 parked behind it in the photo too.
What a great story boys.
Bloody awesome Glen
All those years in a shed covered in decades of dust yet everything around it is immaculately clean. Spare us the bull whizz thanks gents.
No Bull Whizz. Nobody said he never used his shed, but the car never turned a wheel from that spot. That dust build-up is as real as it gets.
Hope old mate gets the chance to buy the car back, that would be awesome
Yeah right. You can see the greed ooozing from the owners mouth. He knows what it's worth now and he'll sell it for crazy stupid money. More than old mate will ever have. I think old mate will still be kicking himself for ever selling it in the 1st place. Not many people realised the value in these cars back then. Not many people wanted them because they were gas guzzlers which appealed to a very few. How stupid we were.
@@tonymontana897 It's not greed. He didn't want the car, he helped out a mate and stored it for three decades. He's entitled to do what he wants with it as it's HIS car.
@@tonymontana897 I don't see any greed all I can see is utter surprise at what it's worth. The current owner has every right to sell it for current market value. His mate practically begged him to take it and he did him a favour, now he gets to receive that blessing many times over when it sells.
That dirt is paint protection from 72', but seriously, this 'D' block is the Thoroughbred! shes got the factory crack tested crankshaft with 4MA stamped, its the 4bolt Mains Blocck, the Heads will have the '4' casting embossed in the corners, facing the 4V intake manifold. As Glenn grabbed the 'Toploader' gearknob with the 'R' beside the 2-such a raratey in itself! I remember the day the Mobile Crane came on-site to hoist the 'Red Pepper' FoMoCo Icon from its well overgrown, swampy final retired resting plot (so it seamed). Then the media got wind of it, followed by the legend himself- Allan Moffat, who had to see it with his spectacles hinself, and like everybody there, they were all in disbelief. Long story short!, just find the video of the recovery/extraction/removal. Its friggin amazing!!!!!!!!!
So good
Absolutely incredible! Also love your mate's VH.
Sweet ride
Incredible story Lad's.., and well told... fantastic video capturing a time capsule from start to present day...
Glad you enjoyed it
I'm thinking there are some RPO parts on that car. Ol' mate already got the headers at the dealership.
And the front guards they mentioned measure up different than normal .
Great vid Glenn 👍
Love to see it detailed on video
great muscle car find
Asking the previous owner how he feels after being reunited with the highly desirable, rapidly appreciating vehicle he used to own, that, years ago he sold under financial duress for a fraction of what its worth today..................classic Aussie...........completely tactless!!!!!!!
A rare sight indeed, it'll probably be sold under a deceased estate auction before the old fella decides what to do with it.
Good vid mate but let’s keep it Aussie, we don’t have barns here we have sheds.
Thanks mate. Understand but being distributed to a global audience the more widely recongnised term Barn helps our quest to reach a greater audience to help grow the channel.
@@GlennEverittMasterofMachines But wouldn’t it help save our Australian identity if keeped to the language we grow up with and not get so Americanised more than it is and dilute things even more, Our Aussie muscle cars are Australiain owned and they’re in sheds.
@@kerrymulcahy8973, I appreciate where you're coming from but the term Barn Find is just that, a term used to describe cars found in shed's buildings, Barns, etc. It's widely recognised globally. For this channel to survive and produce content moving forward I need views from all over the globe, and have to use a universal language in cases like this that everyone understands. Shed find just doesn't cut it, unfortunately.
I'm fairly new to this channel and had no idea how well established the Aussie car culture was until I watched several of Glenn's videos - great job by the way. It's really amazing to see the similarities and differences between you guys and us (I'm from Alabama in the southern US), so I can appreciate both sides of this conversation. In order to reach the largest audience possible, I'm sure it takes a fine balance between Aussie culture and the rest of the world. For my two cents worth though, I'd lean more towards Aussie culture. I love to hear those Aussie accents, especially female! I've always heard that the Southern US female accent is rated best in the US and I'd agree with that. The female Aussie accent, well that's a whole 'nother level! I even have Siri and my google hub speak to me with a female Aussie accent. 😄😄
@@davidb0126a , thanks so much for watching David, and especially your valued feedback! I really appreciate it.
Ford made 200 body shells outside normal hours for the phase 4 program.. the shells where then sold off as normal xa gt falcons .. hence the wider guards ..
Very nice find indeed, great video.
Awesome watch!
I love the Aussie muscle cars. They are much better for me as I live in England and the steering wheel is on the right side
Very cool video I'm from Winnipeg Canada and still love those Falcons to find one tucked away like that cool story and of course 4-speed wow all the best boys take care Happy New Year yes I had a lot lot of Ford Falcons 64 + 65 hard tops on convertibles beautiful cars but yours is pretty cool have a great day

This machine would clean up nice, shame a cover wasn’t put on this beast.
He never loved it. Original Owner yeah but not the guy that bought it. Now it junk to me.
@@johnbrown2163 Very expensive desirable junk.
They were $8000 25 yrs ago , probably why he didn't put a cover on it
@@coopsnz1 He never washed it or drove it. He just wants the money now. He is a guy with a good life and not appreciate the great things.
They never are Tim, until someone discovers that it is worth $$$
Still plenty sitting in farm sheds in the rural vic. The hardest part of the resto is convincing farmers to sell.
Nice find, but we don't have barns in Australia, we have sheds.
Thanks Wally, glad you liked it. With all due respect to you, Barn Find is just a recognized term used globally for cars found in sheds, carports, or anywhere undercover for that matter. Shed Find just doesn't sound right.
Barn find attracts a wider audience beyond Australia on CZcams as well.
Important when building up a healthy CZcams channel.
Quite a few US viewers also glad they found this channel so a plus.
A friend of mine from high school in 1990 had the XB same specs and colour sitting in their shed under hay bales and horse saddles, it had never been driven from the early 80’s. I often drive past the old farm and wonder is it still sitting there under all the crap it was back in the day.
I bought one in new 1972 4th car I had ever owned, I wish I still had it.
Wow, this car was made the same month I was born.
wow, GREAT car!! the Australian Falcons are one of my favorite cars, i wish we had got them here in the states.
Saw an XB coupe in LA four years ago, just about the highlight of my trip hahaha. Couldn't believe it.
I’m a Holden guy but I love this car. Incredible history behind it. Would be worth in the hundreds of thousands $$$$$$. RIP DAVE.
Go Glenn- Awesome like always.
how could 50 people not like this?
Jealousy is a curse mate
Well done Glen, Keep up the great work mate.👍
I should have kept my old man's GXL XC Falcon 302 Cleveland
Be interesting to hear pats story behind that swaybar setup?
Does it have 4v heads on it?
Best episode you’ve done in my opinion.

Your and absolute living legend Glenn awesome car, brings back loads of memories as l done my trade on these machines, hope to see it fully brought back to life, magic work and channel cheers KC Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺😎👍👊🇦🇺
Thanks mate! Hows thing in Tassie?
A mate showed me his dads XA GT in the mid 90's. Less than 1000 orogonal kms. His dad bought it off one of his friends who parents made him sell it because of the Supercargo Scare. Nick's Dad's parents were pretty much of the same thinking and told him to park it in the shed and don't touch it. He did, putting it on stands, and that's where its sat since then.
This video is like a reenactment of a murder on a show.
Just watched Neil talking about the mothball on studio 10 this morning. I don't think it's a mothball anymore.
😎👍😁🤘🇦🇺
Mad midnight watch
Did anyone give it a cracking over since this video. Be absolutely amazing to hear the original and perfect sounds it would be.
love it
Saw this referred to in the Daily Mail online. So some wide interest.
Incredible to think that the curb weight of that monster is less than a Mitsubishi ASX
My mate/mechanic has the exact same car but in good to excellent condition, been sitting in his shed since 2000 and probably drove it less than 10 times in 20yrs
I had 3 XY GT's and 1 divorce..so brings a tear to my eyes. Wonder in the left engine mount had a hole drilled in it and a bolt fitted to stop them breaking engine mounts??
Love the old Aussie cars. Just wish the prices weren't stupid. So us normal people could own them. Which is what they were made for back in the day.
I agree Joe, it's gone crazy and out of most people reach now.
@@GlennEverittMasterofMachines i mean their are less of them but still. i think the GT'S ARE WORTH 50K NO MORE

Wow!!!
Great feel good story.

Amen
I've always been intrigued by Australia. Being the son of an immigrant to the US. and a American born mother whom her parents where from eastern Europe too. I could have easily been born in Australia because of China apparently. Australia was wanting to fill up your country and the Brit's weren't coming in fast enough. Your Prime Minister, I think Menzies, If I remember correctly said he liked the East Europeans because they could easily pass for an Aussie and meld in fast and he liked seeing some with red hair. I thought that funny and remembered reading that when my girlfriend told me, cutting my hair, it wasn't brown but dark red. I thought she was nut's and one day on a job washing windows seeing myself in the reflection in the bright sunlight, it was RED. You know, the blondish shine you get reflecting off the sun. But it was defiantly a reddish shine.
So why am I telling you guy's this. Because of the Barn commotion in the comments. We don't call our shed's here Barns. We call them shed's too. Shed's are usually made of metal, one I had made, was all wood. You can buy them and put am up yourself, wood or metal. Most homes have a Garage and a shed. But nobody has a Barn unless you own a ranch or farm here and most car's are found in Barn's I guess because farmers got so much land an old car in a barn could soon be forgotten. Where as in the suburbs you'd be seeing an old rust- bucket too often enough to let 30 years go by. So that's were you find them on the farm or ranch in an old barn when in the day neighbors would get together and raise a barn! Jw's still do that building kingdom halls, lol.
Yup, it's weird seeing your country because were so alike the US. and Oz. and seeing your muscle cars is like, wow. I never saw that one before, but it's defiantly a muscle car and no other country's have them except us two!
Thanks for sharing John. It's amazing how similar our culture is here to the US. Most expect it to be like the UK, but it's more like the US, cars and all.
Bickies, lollies and sheds!
🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 oi, oi, oi!
That car is worth a ton of cash.
Nice vid
I know of an XB same colour in factory mint condition - also in a garage, but kept beautiful as if brand new.
absolute criminal to leave a car like that, to gather dust and never driven for 28yrs.
RIP Dave
A friend of the family had one in the same colour as this in the early 80's
Going by the oil around the diff I'd say the odometer has been around once or twice before .
Yup. This whole vid smacks of bullshit...
Nope........These things leaked oil from day one.........Looking at the interior I'd say the miles are genuine. The build quality of Aussie cars back in the 70's was utter crap...I was a mechanic working on these cars back then. They really were rubbish, and that Valiant Ranger they were in at the start of the video were even worse. Most of them rusted away within a few years.
Would have been better if you showed them knocking the shed wall down and craning it out of the neighbour’s yard.
This video preceded the removal stage. There is another video on that.
my dad had a 72 xb 4 door and we found the front bumper in my grandparents backyard where it was in the dirt 20 years, also my grandpa had an a9x torana he sold for 1600 to buy curtains for his house.
