XR GT Falcon 650HP SLEEPER in a Mind Blowing Mancave!

  • We drive this insane 1967 Ford Falcon XR GT powered by an ex Dick Johnson Racing V8 Supercar engine and check out the mind-blowing mancave where it's housed. The 1967 Ford Falcon XR GT was a game changer for Australia and started our whole muscle car war with the big three, Ford, Chrysler and General Motors Holden. The XR GT won Bathurst and awoke a sleeping giant in the automotive world here for Australian Muscle Cars.
At Master of Machines, we love cars, in fact, we love anything with wheels or an engine, from American Muscle Cars to Australian Muscle Cars, Race Cars and Classic Cars of all kinds and even Barn Finds. If it's fast, powerful, restored or hidden away in hibernation then we'll cover it, and in most cases, we'll even drive them!

Holman Moody road raced a ‘63 4 door galaxie and whooped ass, that is good enough for me! For the last 20 years I’ve been building, bending, breaking and pushing galaxies to their limits. Older falcons like that one here in the states are hard to find. Yes, I too want one lol

Lovely old cars , i used to have a warm 289 Xr in my younger days , it wasnt a Gt though sadly ,
The owner of these cars must be an exceptionally nice fella , because id be buggered if id let anyone drive my pride and joy XR .
Aside from their go fast build and on road presence , i think these old cars even in standard form where very good cruisers and fantastic highway cars as long as your wallet was full enough to pay for the fuel bill .
These old cars had a bit of character unlike many of todays soulless modern cars .

I love the xr gt the most out of all the others u have in your shed and i am so glad u didnt toss the original engine and driveline out and its good that the body and chassies wasnt modified to take the present gear u are running at the moment. I guess the whole idea is to put back all the original running gear easily when u may want to sell the car. I like the style of shed u have built in an old fashion way and not all the modern contemporary style and architecture u see in this day and age and the old tractor and stuff out front just adds to the authenticity good on ya glen i wish i could come and visit one day.

Hi Glen, I am messaging you after watching this video. I am a proud owner of a factory built 600hp DRB 1969 GT40 replica that I purchased from the company owner peter Ransom. Since buying it from Peter back in 2011 and due to its racing history the car has gone through a big upgrade here in south Australia and is very well known in the racing fraternity. Due to health issues I am reluctantly having to sell the car but not to anyone. Happy to talk if you know anyone specially with your background that would be interested in buying it. This GT40 is meticulously built
as a 1969 as you will see in the photos I can send you if you wish.

Had an immaculate XR GT in the early eighties in Sydney. Did a few runs to Melbourne in it, before the speed restrictions we have now & just sit on 100/110 mph no sweat - great hwy cruiser. Had a set of Cooper exhausts on it & that 289 sounded superb - girlfriend at the time said she could here me coming 3 blocks away. Sadly it was written off by a woman running up my arse whist stationary doing a RH turn on the Windsor road. But once I got my GT fix went on to get an XT & later an XW GT but still have a soft spot for the XR's. Must say that XR in this video is superb - a real credit to the owner.

@@weldmachine Interestingly I bought the wreck from the insurance company & it was sold to a panel shop in Sutherland. I don't know if they planned to re shell it or what happened to the vehicle. It also copped a hit in the front as the rear impact shunted the car head on into coming traffic - so it was well & truly stuffed. I was in the GT car club in Melbourne for many years & the club would not recognize re shelled vehicles unless they were GT shells as genuine GT's.

To my knowledge they were all imported here. We did cast our own Clevelands though. We phased the Windsor out by about 71 and then went with the Cleveland from there on through to 83/84. Then in the early 90s we brought the Windsor back in the 5.0 spec, then the Modular in 5.4 lt, and now the Coyote. :-)

Were the 390 and 427 FE big blocks ever factory installed in Australian Fords?

    • @KG84C
      @KG84C Před 10 dny

No, locally made inline 6s ranging from 144 to 250 cid, imported Windsor's 289, 302, 351. Cleveland imported till early 70s, then produced locally at Ford Australia engine plant in Geelong, Victoria. Last one made about 1983. We also had a 302 version of the Cleveland as a sort of "econo" V8. All small port heads but mid 75 both 351C and 302C got factory 4 barrel Thermoquad, and the dreaded EGR. Google "Bill Bourke 428 Falcon", it appears the Ford Aust managing director had a one off big block made, sadly auto box. FE, forgotten engine.

Isn't the 1967 XR Falcon the final year using the totally American Falcon Sheetmetal?

@@mael-strom9707 , absolutely! I love them and owned an XP coupe when I was 12, but sadly we never got to finish it along with a planned 302W conversion as I ran out of budget and had to sell. I was more referring to the factory delivered V8 muscle cars though. No disrespect of course. Such a shame we never received the V8 Variant of those compact little early Falcons. I'm a big fan.

Don’t they have coupes in NSW? The two door no post Falcons I have and had owned in the states are more appealing. I know Ford made different models outside of the states and the Falcons of down under are different but the four doors just don’t do it for me. Thanks for sharing, to each his own Oi .

David J. Yeah, vastly different markets. USA population has always been 10 x that of Australia plus we can drive for days without crossing a major city. Aussies have an affinity for rwd four door sedans. Nothing wrong with high performance rwd sedans.
