That's how its done kids.
RIP Aretha and George.
Play more George Micheal. Don't let the sun go down Elton John and George Michael, Tonight by George M👍
George was and is my idol, I love everything he ever did.
2 legends , Now in a Better place 🙏
George Michael said in an interview that he actually turned her down the first time she asked to do a duet with him as he didn't feel he was good enough. So glad one year later he felt he was. This duet is truly unbelievable. I remember cruising in my car blasting this dare to feel good song! Thanks for the memory George and Aretha... neither of you can possibly ever be forgotten. RIP❤
I don’t think George.. didn’t want to do a song w/ the Queen of soul..
That’s a hard thing. I think, he resisted because, of who she was. I’m glad, they got together!
Awesome song! Great video!
George was wrong. His voice is truly one in a million. An outstanding performance by both.
The truth is . Aretha didn't want to do the duet at first. Because she thought George was a bit trendy and modern . And didn't want her legacy exploited . But she finally gave in . And the pair of them became close .
@@phallicwarrior where did you get that information from? More than one source said it was Clive Davis's idea and then they called George. I never heard that Clive had to talk Aretha into it.
@@PFCD you are so right. He talks about it in his biography. Aretha wanted George to write a song for her. She was his hero along with Stevie Wonder. He was 23 n too scared to screw something up for her. He wouldn’t do it at first. Clive Davis found this song n George agreed as long as he didn’t have to produce it. The rest is history. When George did his Faith tour in Detroit, she showed up on stage n surprised him. They performed this together. He said he stayed at her house a few days hiding out from the press. She cooked him chicken, greens n yams. He also hid out at Stevie’s house.
Got to have guts to sing and hold your own with Aretha!
Indeed
Yes. GM was great, but Aretha made this song IMO. Him with someone else would have just been a nice duet
think he was like 22. thats crazy
@@mic1240 Aretha Franklin is all over the place tho. George keeps the song on the ground imo.
Amazing to me how some people don't realize the magical voice George Michael had. He idolized Aretha Franklin like he did Stevie Wonder Elton John and Queen. As a young boy he talked about how these were his musical Idol. And the fact that Aretha sang this song with a 21 year old George is utterly amazing. It must have blown his head off. Aretha also asked him to write and produce a song for her but in an interview George commented how absolutely intimidated he was to do that. His thought about telling Aretha Franklin what to do, frightened him. Unfortunately he declined at that time. Of course this all know George went on to do massively successful duets with Elton, Queen, and Stevie,. George was a massively successful an amazing talent.
Miss Aretha did NOT duet with just anybody. She knew he was amazing. One of my fav duets eva!
Everyone that came up in that era knew George was a powerhouse.
Listening to George talk about this song and meeting Aretha is such a neat story.
Aretha looked beautiful in this video!
@@ericburns7789 Indeed
George sang with 3 American legends in his career. Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Mary J Blige. They were all fantastic songs, but this one was exceptional.
A few more that that buddy
He also has a duet with Ray Charles and Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder!!!!
He sang with Smokey Robinson,Stevie Wonder,Tony Bennett,Whitney Houston and Mary J Blige.
Gorgeous George Michael was the BOMB!
George said himself working with Queen Aretha was one of his great joys in life..awesome to relive the 2 of them together and now they are both gone from this earth..I hope they are reunited again doing some great tunes in heaven..ty MRM for the memory awesome voices that though gone will live forever in our memories..Keep Well Keep Strong My friend
George Michael covered Stevie Wonder AS song with Mary J. Blige, and it is considered one of the BEST covers ever of any song.
I get chills every time I hear her sing "I didn't falter" at 4:53. One of the best duets ever.
My god one song that is on FIRE!!! So sad we lost you both to soon. RIP!!
@@nickfiorenza5930 Yes, very sad . Miss them so much😢
one of those songs where you can't have a casual listening. though musically it sounds so distinctly 80s, the vocals are powerfully timeless
They took home a Grammy for this song!!
80's nostalgia overload right there my man! R.I.P. Aretha and George.
Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody
Diana Ross - Chain Reaction
Ashford & Simpson - Solid
I always loved Aretha & god did George prove his salt even more next to Aretha... love it, such good memories when it came out 😊🖤🖤🖤
This song bring me back so much memories 👍
My two favourite singers ever and together 😁
They are now in paradise
Two wonderful voices.
Aretha's Father was a Pastor and she was schooled in Gospel Music, You can hear it in everything She does. George had a distinctive soul rock style, good match here.
Ladies and gentlemen. you just witnessed probably two of the best voices to ever grace a stage.
This was recorded with neither of them in the same studio.
Aretha had a phobia of flying.
So they recorded it one in America and the other in England.
I read George's biography. I'm pretty sure he flew to Detroit to do this with her.
I have Aretha Fankikin second best female vocalist of all-time behind Whitney Houston and George Michael number 1 white male make vocalist of all-time ahead of Michael McDonald.
@@kap6406 you are exactly right!!! This was done together, George talked about how nervous he was because she was one of his idols!! He said she was so chilled, brought a rack of lamb or something for them to eat, but he couldn't because of his insecurity, performing with the Queen of Soul.
George Michael and Mother Aretha. It don't get no better than this!
Please react to George Michael's Somebody to love. Freddie Mercury tribute💕♥️❣️
So beautiful💞💖💕

Yes it's awesome! 💙
This song was written by the duo Dennis Morgan & Simon Climie. And it was Clive Davis who suggested George and Aretha record it as a duo. It was not originally written that way. But turned out to be a number one hit for both George and Aretha. Aretha's first in the UK she had a top 20 there 20 years prior for "I Say A Little Prayer" This was George's third consecutive number one and made him huge at that time in the US.
Launched his solo career in USA really - well paced the way for FAITH
Aretha was an established legend. George was the hottest star on the rise. Aretha needed a big hit (think this was her first number one or second number one in the USA) and George needed credibility coming off the back of Wham! This song achieved everything they both wanted! Aretha got her massive hit (definitely her first UK number 1) and George got the respect he wanted by being the first white artist to duet with the Queen of Soul.
You Are Soul! He was second to MJ in his tally of Number 1s In the 80s.
You must realise that GM was marching his way into the history books until he decided to reduce his celebrity and level of fame.
The guy sold 80 million + records as a solo artist and over 115 million combined with Wham! The numbers are huge but pale with say Whitney Houston. However what people fail to realise is that he only released 4 proper studio albums and 1 album of covers, did no promotion work and didn’t tour for 17 years (when he did start - it was well after his prime/peak). This makes his numbers even more impressive!
Had he not decided to step away from the fame game he would have been Michael Jackson’s closest rival.
With the Faith album he was ranked alongside MJ, Prince and Madonna - but then dropped out of that league only in the USA. Around the world, outside America he was still ranked with them. He never lost his following in Europe - In fact in Europe he was ranked above Whitney, Mariah, Celine and Janet. Till his death, he maintained his Úber A List status regardless of his minimal output and promotion.
Truly a remarkable singer/songwriter and a once in a lifetime megastar - the likes of whom we most likely won’t see again.
It's still hard to believe Aretha only had 2#1 hits I thought it was much more
Kimberly McGee yep! And people don’t seem to recognise that George Michael topped the USA charts a total of 10 times! 8 solo #1s and 2 #1s with Wham!
@@Cummley - His *duets* with Aretha & Elton were not "solo" #1's .
shyman99 billboard actually classified them as solo number ones and gives each singer a solo credit.
George Michael, my favorite artist ever!
I actually just watched an interview with the producer of this song ... George Michael producer like 95% of all his music ... all the wham and his albums he was a perfectionist... and this is a great song from my generation THE QUENN HERSELF ... RIP TO BOTH THESE GREAT SINGERS
This song was released when I was 24. My older brother was 35. He knew how much I loved George. We used to sing it together. Sadly, he passed away 2 years later. I always imagine our meeting in Heaven will be us singing this together again.
Two greats together 👍brings back good memories cruising around with the car stereo blasting 😁
Remember when this came out, still love it. What a great duo!!
What he said at the end hit the nail on the head: lots of folks weren't even born yet when this song came out 1986-87.
But it's great the song being discovered by new generations of lovers of great R&B music.
So poignant both are now singing in heaven.
Aretha & Annie Lennox; "Sisters are Doing it For themselves"
Two great performers both gone, what a shame!
Great duet, and Aretha's squall towards the end makes it supreme!
Man what a great song and duet! Miss them both dearly! Rip🙏to the queen of soul and George Michael😢
What a damn good song.
I was 8 yrs old when this song came out! This was a "Bad Jam" back in that day! When it would come on the radio, everyone I knew would stop what they were doing and run to the stereo to turn it up! I miss George and Aretha! It is so sad that many of the Extraordinary Entertainers we had in my childhood years are now Gone! 😢
Aretha, beautiful, classy, immense vocal range, the best to have ever lived. RIP great lady, keep singing with the angels
❤️❤️❤️this one.RIP both of you.
What a time, what a monster hit! Aretha's resurgence and George on top. Love the shot when he has his hands on her shoulders and was beaming with adoration.
Class....he was on point! Period! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾😇😇😇😇😇🙏🙏🙏🙏😘😘😘💜
Another great performance by Aretha Franklin was in the 1980 film, The Blues Brothers. I really loved her song, Think, but putting her in this scene singing that song was GOLD!!
This is another great song from the 80s 💚👍
These two voices together........GOLD!!!
I miss going out dancing, having a blast, great songs, singing along, never leaving the floor! Then the 2000’s rolled in and techno took over, can’t sing to that and all the dancing turning into mock sex!
This has always been one of my favorite videos .
This was best of Ms. Aretha & George! Awesome song! Greatness!
May Aretha & George. Rest In Peace!
I remember this song vividly. It got heavy radio airplay in the mornings back in 1987, as I would hear it while getting ready for 2nd grade. The video got alot of rotation too on vh-1. Even as a kid, it was one of those cute, mid-tempo songs that just put a smile on your face every time it came on.
She makes everybody do that with their heads.
Thats a bit of her spirit and she sends it right up your spine to your head.
George stood head to head with Aretha Franklin! And Succeeded! Love this Song!
Loved Aretha from when I first heard her music at age 13. Lovely voice with a BIG range, such a pretty face with her constant warm expression.
Two great voices that we miss so much
Excellent duet. George and Elton Don’t let the sun go down on me is another.
First time I hear that song on the radio I cried it sounded so good and lifted my spirit 😊.
George was THE hot artist then and could have his choice of females to duet with, he wanted Aretha Franklin, what a pair of legends , what a song and what voices !
I love that you do so many George Michael songs! This one takes me back!
This song will always make me 😭😭😭. Gets me right in the center of my feels. ❤️❤️🤛🤛
70s and 80s was such a good time for music.
The great 80's. The last century with great artists and great music!
When music was real music!
This is the best example. Amazing voices singing a typical 80's song.
Loved George since 1983 when Wham started to be one of the biggest and most successful band. George was a great songwriter, he wrote
" Careless Whisper " when he was only 17. And made it a number one hit a few years later in the US, in almost every european country, Uk, Germany, Austria, Spain and so on.
He wrote all the successful songs of Wham and as a solo artist.
The biggest hit was "Last Christmas ", till today it is listed in the charts at Christmas time. It is one of the most selling Christmas songs ever. What an irony that he just died on Christmas Day 2016.
Way too soon only 53 years old. He was one of the most talented artist of the 80's. What a great time it was, with all the great bands like Wham, Duran Duran, Queen, Spandau Ballet, and the solo artists like Michael Jackson, Elton John, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Madonna and so on. You get a little bit sentimental. It was our youth, the time of the baby boomers. Long ago but never forgotten!
RIP George and Aretha 🎶🎶
The bass is awesome... Love this song..
Can't believe they're both gone. Just not fair. RIH Aretha and George❤🙏
I think this might be one of my all time favourite duets.
God bless thier sweet sounding souls They are greatly missed.
Hello Mr. Tye Smith..... This was George Michael's first Duet away from Wham! He was attempting to gain traction within the US markets, as opposed to Great Brittain, and asked Aretha if she was willing to do something together. The Producer, arrangement Mgr, was Mr. Narada Michael Waldon, who had a few Hits on his own, The video, and arrangement is what We see and here today!! I always Loved this song! Take care, and Stay Safe!!
Damn I miss the '80s!!!!
2 of the big time power houses from the 80's. Aretha was the Queen Of Soul N she showed it in her singing. George Michael a British guy that made his mark in the US. Ty Aretha did a lot of teaming up with big time stars, 1 of them was with Michael McDonald n they sang a song called Ever Changing Times. The music video on this song is awesome N I kno that U would like this song. So please do a reaction to the music video Of Ever Changing Times. God Bless
Well not only a classic, but an award-winning song at one Grammy for best collaboration of the year. I believe it was 1988
Their voices blend together so beautifully. Love this song I was 21 when this song came out and in my rebellious stage lol.
This great song was on MTV all the time in the 80s. I LOVE it! George Michael was the lead singer for WHAM, in case you do not know. What a voice, and of course Aretha, the QUEEN of Soul.
I think most people know who George was buddy he had the biggest selling solo album Faith in the 80’s in uk and US 😎
love how her voice hitting them notes was so effortless
I love your ending prayer. You know how to spread joy, and I'm so glad I found your channels!
She has to be the greatest soul singer ever,,,,pity Freddie Mercury never got to sing with her
I adore them both. 2 legends.
I can’t believe they’re both gone.😢
Man I loved this song when it first came out...totally amazing song....and I’m 40 lol...please do the duet he did with Whitney Houston
This is such a great song. Aretha blows it away
Two absolute stars! I love this song
Aretha was before my time, but George was my idol in my teen years- Loved this duet! Wish George was still alive- Thanx for the memories
Two amazing voices! It is a great song!
This was a very important time for both of them. Aretha made a comeback with Freeway Of Love and this Song made History because it was the first Interracial Duet by Two Folks from different Countries to go to Number One. George was still in Wham but he was going to leave eventually for his own solo superstardom. Also if you look carefully you'll see other Duos from Ike & Tina Turner, Sonny & Cher and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell. Sadly enough only Cher & Tina are still alive. Aretha also did duets with The Eurythmics with Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves.
One of the best DUO's EVER! IMHO
Just watched the film "Respect". The story of Aretha Franklin. A must watch!
I love this song!! Two great voices together! They are AMAZING!!
George went to Motown to record this with Miss Aretha, and she got a number one hit with it. 1987, right after he left WHAM.
The coupling of two sublime talents.
Love this, still have it on 12inch vinyl 😀
Woah! What a blast from the past! I actually forgot about this song but when I heard it I was sent right back to the 80s and my teenager days. I think this song was from 86 or 87. A definite classic from two beautiful people that are no longer with us. RIP Aretha and George, thanks for the songs you left us.
It's so sad they are both in heaven now...having a big party with all the other great artists..❤❤
Colossal hit all over the world. Wonderful Song, Two of the best right there.
I loved this song when I was a kid, still love it now!
No one had a voice like Aretha.
Except Martha wash ...
I miss her so much she was always my favorite. She was good in the movie Blues Brother 2000.
Brit-Greek soul man
Yes- this was a huge hit back in the day when I was a teenager- huge radio play- ❤️🤘🏼✌️
❤️🥰❤️never realized you reacted to so many George Michael songs❤️ love it!
Another AMAZING duo to check out is Michael Mcdonald and Ms. Patti LaBelle..... and Ms. Patti and Michael Bolton !!!!
Aretha is a natural treasure
Please listen to George Michael "Praying for Time" a brilliant song with a timely message about social justice and equality.
He's already reacted to that on his channel
Everything George did was amazing
I swear to God, he wrote that song for the year 2020.
It came out in 1987. It was a number one hit for them both.
I woke up today with another song in my head. George & Stevie Wonder 1 of many. Why this particular song, I don't know, It happens all the time. Anyways, LIVING FOR THE CITY. George did Many Stevie Wonder Covers. some with him. Another one is LOVES IN NEED OF LOVE TODAY at the apollo. You need to watch these. Note that he never sings above them, always WITH them. He never was a showboater. It always seemed to be an honor for George to be with an artist. as well as having fun and watch George, he was always a hugger, very sincere. As a woman, this also says a lot about the man he was. there are SO MANY more collaborations, again he won't disappoint. Well, that's my thought for today, thanks so much for continuing with George. I look forward to watching more. See Ya!
2 legends miss them both.
I’ve always loved this song!❤️
I love the name of your channel. We need more blk renaissance men these days.
This had to be not long after George Michael went solo and Wham broke up. He looks young there. And Aretha Franklin is absolutely timeless. She's definitely one of the greats. So there is two of the best that's ever been. Ty you didn't get my email that I sent???
This was indeed the first solo single released by George after the breakup of Wham!. Though "A Different Corner" and "Careless Whisper" were intended to be George Michael solo efforts, they appeared on Wham! albums and, I believe, were both credited as "Wham! featuring George Michael" (an odd crediting, given that George was a founding and then-current member of Wham! already). "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" was a killer single, and a nice buffer zone between George's Wham! output and his forthcoming solo debut album, Faith.
He was young here 22 or 23.
