I'm going through a "rock bottom" moment, myself. For years I've been looking for a new job after I was made redundant "due to the economy", but on the whole, no one wants to hire me. Most of the places I apply for don't even bother to respond to me, and those that do, tell me I have not been selected. It's been depressing, to say the least. Writing cover letters felt like my soul was being drained.
But now, despite having no income, I've decided to focus on what I know I can do... be creative. While the world is under quarantine, I am keeping myself busy by creating craft work to sell once the virus blows over. I am also focusing on writing and artwork as well.
I'm still searching, but I have a better chance with this.
Thanks for the pep talk!
"I agree with him but he's just too much."
That's a big mood right there.
gary v basically. couldn't finish even one of his video even tho some of them seemed quite informative. lol
@@lightlawliet3526 marketing types have the same effect on me. I’m so sick of everybody needing to be a ‘brand’. I just wanna go back to a world where people are just... people.
I love all the audio cuts you did at like 13:30 to illustrate your point lol, very jarring, and I was immediately irritated. I think you're videos have a fantastic tempo personally, you let the music breathe and don't feel the need to jam your voice down the listeners throat. I have a feeling you spent quite a bit of time on what the pacing style of your videos would be and it shows.
It was so hilarious 😂😂👏🏻
This is so true I feel like this is perfect description for his videos.
My parents are ok with me watching your channel, everything is fine !
I've always hated that "tatatatatata" pace that has become almost a trend among CZcamsrs these days. Especially when they do it in a way that makes you feel like they're running out of their breath.
I have been feeling stressed about my career as an artist Thanks Adam. I really appreciate you taking the time to make talks like this.
I was feeling a little down from work today, seeing that notification on CZcams and finding your video somehow brought me joy in a way. Thanks Adam, I'm about to start some painting as I begin your video.
i could listen to you talk forever
I know right it's so calming and entertaining the same time 🙂
Thanks for this beautiful video man. I needed something like this. Seriously, keep up the good work.
Thanks again Adam for bestowing your wisdom upon us!
Great advice, thank you! I learned something new with the pacing bit
thank you Adam!your voice has magical qualities and your words are pure wisdom:)I love listening to you, please never stop ❤
Thank you Adam, you're a Godsend
I've been learning so much from your vids - a huge thank you to you :)
Awesome advise!! Lemmino is one of my favourite youtube channels
Hey Adam, recently found your youtube channel from a recommendation by Ahmed Aldoori. I really love your talks, they help me relax och blur out my inner critics while i'm drawing. Thank you.
Regarding the sexism part I just want to say as a woman YES. Thank you, a male that isn't afraid to look behind the curtain at the other side!
Hahaha you described my exact feelings when watching Phill! I love him, I love his videos, but I cannot watch more than one in a row!
Great advice Adam, thank you!
Adam, I love your videos. Could you talk more about sexism and chauvinism in the entertainment industry? I've never faced much of that in the comic book industry because I've been always working with decent and high standard people, but I know it exists.
Ed Hooks is a nice guy :) he even reviewed my second year film for me, so I could avoid mistakes I made in that movie, in my upcoming diploma film.
That wasn't part of the acting for animators class we had with him, but he did it anyway. Great guy.
Goes to show how fame doesn’t have to turn someone into a douchebag - in the end we’re all just folks trying to share our love of art isn’t it - and I totally agree, he really is a genuinely awesome guy
Teach to the choir Adam....finger pointing to me,, lol! 😅 Thanks for your advice. I needed to hear this...🌝
Wonderful video Adam :) . It's a scary old world where you can say or do the wrong thing and it screws you in years to come without you even realising at the time. Still, it was interesting hearing your thoughts on the topic, keep on making great content dude.
It is - a very different world than what I grew up in - but there’s more accountability as well, which helps to keep society as a whole in check, which is a good thing imo
I can relate so much with all the advice on this channel
Very nice video Adam! :) I really like what you do as an artist and as a youtuber, all the messages that you share with us and the impact that you make and the values you give .. they are just immeasurabe. I can listen to meaningful topics and grow just by folowing your channel, and you can do it in a way that also relaxes my mind :D So thank you for doing awesome work as a youtuber, and yes! Always stick to your opinion :)
I couldn’t ask for a nicer compliment, thank you very much Paulina :)
i dont usually watch 30+ mins videos. The power of pacing I guess. Thank you for this!
Hi Adam. It's Adam from Fitzfactor. Thank you so much for your video and how open you are within it. Means a lot and I really appreciate you taking the time to share. I've been wanting for a while to start sharing through youtube but have had the opposite problem of "speaking before I think." I end up writing scripts for topics or perspectives I think are worth sharing and always end up canning them thinking that I'm not adding anything new to the conversation or bringing any new insight that's worth sharing. Almost did it with this comment haha, wrote it out and thought about deleting it afterwards. Working through this though and trying to find a way to start. You are really inspiring in that regard. I love listening to you speak and your perspectives on things. It's not always that we need to hear the perfect voice, but a sincere human one.
BTW you should check out my buddy Pedro Dutra! I think he has really intelligent and thoughtful videos, and his drawing is really fun to watch :)

Another wonderful video thank you
love u too, adam
Wow, really great information. shall help me to improve my videos. I really like the way you present your videos it is a big inspiration. I think also being open to change is another important factor. like with your boss at the call center. doing the same thing over and over in the same way in terms of creating content eventually gets boring for either the viewer or the creator. that my own 2 cents anyways. keep up the great message.
"Listen to...Steven Fry..."
Yes sir. On it. Any day, all day every day.
"But I being poor have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; tread softly, because you tread on my dreams."
This totally alignes to what my family taught me at home when it comes to public image and opinions.
We are artist, we make art. People don´t want to hear from us activism shit. They might accept it from time to time but that´s not what they expect from us.
And this is also something that I see so wrong with many artists on social media who suddenly are talking about unrelated politics topics to their feed.
nice track!!
oh man... disappointing that so many douches are out there sending death threats for sth that really needs to be discussed like sexism in art business/ industry. i wish more people talked about it.
According to this guy's advice this shouldn't be discussed as it isn't professional and would tarnish the reputations of the employers which is somehow the responsibility of the employee to maintain like the battered spouse told to blame their black eye on the door handle.
6:50 That accurate American bitchy tone mimic tho 10/10
oh wow ! at 14 min something you edited to provide an example of what you're saying... and yes superspeedyextracutgottamoveforwardbedynamic makes me feel like "I can't breathe".
Now, I need to watch the rest of the video. thanks a lot :-)
I feel the opposite about Phil's videos. Ithink the style makes me more attentive but whenever I watch a Vaatividya I have to constantly go back and listen to things multiple times to make sure I get the information.
Yeah, when people... Just go slowly and... Trail off at the end of... some of their words... It just makes me lose... Focus, and then tune out...
Especially when people slow down and then speed up their speech, like even in this video. He'll... Say... Words... Slowly... And... Then... VeryQuicklyFinishTheSentence and I'm just like "wait, wtf did you just say?" Because my brain has to switch from processing slow speech to fast speech.
15:32 he tries to make a point but it completely failed on me. "pacing" didn't stick in my mind, I had a hard time processing what was said because it was so damn slow.
And at 15:38 I could follow along perfectly fine. I'm more comfortable with speed because I get more information in a shorter period of time and can therefore more easily connect that information together in my head.
I'd much rather just have someone speak quickly at a consistent speed and without a lot of fluff, that's how I will most clearly understand.
Awesome Talk :)
this channel is much more than "just an art channel". You give us so much more! take care yourself!
Damn I worked in a phone service too...
What happened with the butterfly?:p
adam can i ask,i see you draw so much detail in your work,i am curious as a pro how did you develop the skill to know when to stop refining and publish your art?,great vid enjoyed it listening while painting,
Kana Koketso Kenney Kana I heard “stop drawing when you’re no longer learning anything new” and it stuck with me
will try that thanks
adam duff beer
Terry Goodkind. I found myself wondering why a "great writer" didn't write a proper commentary about his book cover art and let people think the artist has done a bad job. Goodkind tried to fix it, but was too late.
Put these in podcastform on iTunes pls
This this this this please
i like this video
I’m very happy to hear it :)
Adam, I love your videos and the message you're presenting here. But I am compelled to comment on sympathy vs empathy because the definition in this videos isn't accurate as I understand it and as I have referenced from Merriam Webster. Here is the difference.
Sympathy: your mother has recently passed away, my mother also died when I was young, I can sympathize with what you are going through.
Empathy: your mother has recently passed away. I have never experienced this, but I love my mother and I can empathize with how you must feel.
...
I think this is just slightly different from complaining versus facing adversity.. Thanks again for the channel Adam, t's great to listen to as I work on my projects. Take care.
6:54 Adam Duff becomes Dudam Aff
Edit: P.s. comming back here when i think about stuff before falling asleep. I want to highly recomend channel 'excurb1a' for you Adam and for anyone who enjoys your channel. He creates art. Different, philosophy-like art. But i feel like this community would enjoy that content. Please let me know if you do enjoy him.
First Comment:
I was surprised and pleased you have noted Lemmino.
Great video and great examples of showing the wrong ways as well as the core message.
(As someone who used to work on calls I loved your call center story too ! :D )
wow, now i'm intrigued by the sexism video i haven't watched =) great video, thanks adam
Ya I imagine you are - I was right for removing it though, CZcams is not the platform for serious matters like that, too many trolls
@@AdamDuffArt And even youtube itself is going after opinion channels :/
Adam get out of my brain. 🤣
Am I the only who thinks of Trisha Paythas when he said "whiner and complainer youtuber" ?
Lmao that edgy gay accent is very funny 😅😅🤣
18.46 yes yes, I get your point get on with it ffs.. 😂 Im going else were now Im bored
I understand, but I don’t over-edit myself. I don’t stress out over redundancies too much, it’s more about the atmosphere than the efficiency to me
This advise needs context to what behavior you are actually criticizing. Is it whistle-blowing or just complaints based on entitlement?
ok just AHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA at 6:55 you looks like Detox in her clip "this is how we jew it" I CAN NOT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY NOW SORRY
10:50 - 11:35
adhd people: . . .
I know a really great CZcamsr! She’s So hilarious! She’s Lori Wolfcat. If you Don’t know about her, you’re missing Out!
(I know it’s me. 😹😹 But ehh, it’s still true!)
“Reputation”? Seriously? “We live in society-“ yeah, society can screw itself.
I have opinions about things most people don’t wanna talk about and I say them online and pick fights with whoever dares cross my path, and you’re telling me companies are NOT gonna hire me for that? Well, fuck them! I can go freelance.
Seriously? I thought the same at times. Never let an injustice go unpunished. Never stop fighting. But sometimes that means knowing when to stop pulling the trigger. Or never pull it in the first place. You can't freelance if you can't get hired. Freelancing is literally spending your time being hired, if not everyday then still much more often than an employee at some fortune 500 company who hasn't had to worry about finding a job in eight years. But if you have the money to support yourself and your family burning every bridge imaginable, who am I to stop you? It doesn't take courage to be an outcast, but it does if you want to be effective.
You aren't painting yourself in the best light possible with the way you re aggresively putting yourself "out there" in this comment.
If the entire thing you got off from the entire video is those 2 small sentences and then reacting the way you are... i can pretty safely say, you've missed the point.
