Coin collecting has never been so popular, and demand for coins has gone through the roof in the last year. However, the mint had to change their approach for 2023. Technically, they didn't release any coins into circulation with a 2023 date on the heads side until the very end of the year.
I've got an important tip for you on 2023 coins, after we check out what was released, so make sure to stay for the end of the video.

How can entities other than the Mint have the authority to manufacture and put coins into circulation? Is there some special dispensation given to Aus Post and Woolworths to do so?

The Royal Australian Mint actually mints the coins, but they release them through Woolworths/Australia Post. So they are legitimate currency.

There was a mintage number in the 2023 annual report, but as it only went to June
, it may be a year or do before we know the final numbers.

@lynnnickstricks According to the 2023 RAM annual report, the regular proof set is 5,000 mintage and the silver proof set is 1,000 mintage
