      Bought a Sebenza when Chris Reeves was still making them by hand. I have carried it for twenty two years . I own hundreds of knives from high end manufacturing, to hand made customs. Plain and simple truth is time tested is the only measure of a knife. I'm always amused when comparisons are done, there is no comparison available. Nothing wrong with flashy fun, but I've met the man he's hardcore ,he makes hardcore precision period.

    Wow, that is "knife love" when you count the jimping serrations! I think a lot of people fall in love with the Chris Reeve knives once they give them a hard look and/or get them in hand.
    I owned a Chris Reeves Sebenza many years ago and sold it. Talon, thank for reminding me that I owned the knife before you were born ;) In the back of my mind I've compared every knife I have purchased to that Chris Reeve knife. Your video just brought it all home that price shouldn't be the ONLY factor in purchases of things you love.
    Recently, I decided it was better to have a few high quality knives as opposed to a lot of mid-level/low level knives. This happened after getting into the "If you don't love it get rid of it" vibe. More to the point of the video I did order a carbon fiber inlay Sebenza because I have been reminded of the impressive properties of the Chris Reeve line. When it arrives I'll be re-accessing my collection and thinning my knife inventory.
    One last thing. The Chris Reeve knives seem to look even better with wear (from what I see on online postings). That is a testament to the uniqueness of the line.

    I’ve wanted a Sebenza ever since I first got my hands on one at a knife show here in my hometown like 5 yrs ago. Everything you hear about the smoothness of the action and the tightness of the lock-up and all that is 100% true. It really is something you have to experience personally in order to fully appreciate. Now that I’m both willing and able to put up the kind of money that one of these gorgeous knives commands, I find myself in quite a dilemma... Now that the Sebenza 31 has come out, I don’t know whether to get it or the 21. The 31 is the new hotness and they got rid of that locating hole for the new design which I like, but with that they also are using a new inlay style and I actually prefer the inlay style of the 21 to the style on the 31. Also, it’s my understanding that CRK is making the switch from S35VN blade steel to S45VN steel as soon as they exhaust their current supply of the S35VN. So do I buy one now and satisfy that itch as fast as possible? Or do I wait for the S45VN since it’s a knife I plan on using and keeping for the rest of my life? I realize these are all some real “first world issues”, but they are issues none the less and they need resolving before I can make my purchase. Advice???

    • @marcelinonunez8066
      @marcelinonunez8066 Před 3 lety +1

      That does sound like a dilema! Idk, I would wait till' the S45VN comes out, but if you want one, would go for the 21 imo!

      @hyssean12 Před 3 lety

      S45 has been released on the last batch of umnumzaan. Also on my new 31 birthcard it has a check box for s45vn now. It'll be here on all knives soon.

      @timyoung715 Před 3 lety +1

      You can’t go wrong with either. I own a 21 and 31 micarta. But I do want a s45vn also. So my advice get both. Lol

    I'm a broke ass mechanic and I had the opportunity to purchase a barely used diamond plate large sebenza and jumped on it! It too was my exact grail knife and was able to acquire it slightly discounted at the time. They were going for about 475.00 at the time and I got mine for 350.00! I'm guessing about 10 years ago, and still in my everyday rotation! Great knife! Great video! Thanks Talon Sei!

  • @jrg1231

    I think most people who complain about sebenza blades being soft or chippy are referring to the early sebenzas which were made with s30v, the blade steel was changed to s35 a few years ago and it is AWESOME

    As a hobby mechanic and one appreciates precision made tools, I couldn't agree more. Bought my first Sebenza in 2012 and for financial reasons sold it. After 7 years of carrying cheaper folders (some very very cheap), I have a small 21 micarta. What a wonderfully made knife. That glass and oil analogy is pretty much spot on. It's frictionless, and perfectly dampened. I've only ever owned small Sebenzas. I hope I can hold out long enough to not buy a large...for my wallet's sake.
    Great video. You hit the nail directly on the head. It's a beautiful thing that Sebenza.

  • @surgegamer
    @surgegamer Před 5 lety +1

    This is a pretty accurate representation of the battle most of us have with the quality/cost scenario... I recently ordered my own Sebenza and the amount of anxiety and second guessing was quite high, but at the same time, I -knew- I was purchasing one of the best tools I ever could. I've played with and owned probably nearing 100 knives in my life (32yrs) and after handling this one, everything just clicked. I won't see my blade for 9 months, but that's okay by me.

    • @no1up
      @no1up Před 5 lety

      But you really do reach a point of diminishing returns. At around the $200 mark you'll get a knife that if cared for will last a life time. The CRK does have its pro, and IF you find value in it, then by all means. Plus you get bragging rights. Unless, you, lose it. In which case people can and should make fun of you. :) lol I've lost my $250 hogue.

  • @PeachTreesHOA
    @PeachTreesHOA Před 5 lety +52

    Price can be argued about anything in life. Hi-point or Glock? Honda or Mercedes? Talon isn’t asking for your bank account number and buying the knife for you. Just a video explaining a high end tool that he’s come to enjoy. I personally wouldn’t buy it, but only because I’d probably end up losing a finger and then I’m the guy who paid $500 to give high fours.

    Sebenzas are amazing and people may complain ergo and steel. For me S30V and S35VN are perfect all around steel and my favorite steels for pocket knife. M390 AND CTS XHP are the only steels I like close to CPM S35VN and CPM S30V. I know some people will love M4 or Elmax. But for me they are just edge retention steels. I like everything in a Steel like CPM 3V my favorite steel for fix place camp/hunting/bushcraft steel.

    Got a large 21 , it is nice, no doubt. One can argue that you could get just as much knife out there for less or same price. If I could change anything, I’d add a deep carry clip, better steel (m390 or 20cv) and the ability to flicker. Not being able to flicker it annoys me. But having said that, it is a pretty awesome knife. I got the Wilson Combat version, it looks sick!

    It’s about the experience. Like in cars for example, the object is to be able to move from A to B, but in X car it can an “experience”, same as a watch, or a knife.
    Some people just see the objective, but not the feeling as you achieve the objective, like cutting a box open.

    One of many knives that have been a catch and release for me. I get it. It’s sweet, but it didn’t end up in my pocket over other knives. One that all serious knife people need to try but it’s definitely not for everyone. Especially not for the thumb hole lovers.
