***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Forty-five years ago, I lived in Lakewood, Ohio (suburb of Cleveland). I used to go to U-Pick farms for my produce for canning and freezing. The best and easiest picking one had used the black growers cloths for everything, beans, corn, squashes, etc. I was amazed, no weeds and perfect produce. I remember wondering then, why aren't more doing it this way??

After decades of struggling with weeds, we downsized our garden, year after year. Literally from a 3/4 acre size down to a 10x4 size.
Last year we discovered your channel and learned about using fabric. We saw the potential and dove in. We planted a 12x100 garden. We spent so little time weeding and the garden was so beautiful, that this year we've doubled that plot!
THIS IS A GAME CHANGER! TRY IT!

This is my first year using the ground cover. I’m in my 70’s and can’t weed much anymore because of arthritis in my hands and back. I’m so happy to be able to have a garden again. Thank you and God Bless!

  • @DeepSouthHomestead

We love our ground cover here in the south. Yes we get fire ants but it's still worth it. We have learned in the south that the more neutral our soil is the less weeds we have to contend with. We just water on top of the fabric and it goes right through it. No problems watering. The cleanup in the garden is a piece of cake. Just use a leaf blower and blow it off. Rows stay nice and clean.

I live in North Alabama and started using the weed fabric last year. I had a couple if fire ant beds but most were at the edge of the fabric. What is DE? I do believe the benefits outweigh the weeds. I love gardening but I work full time so I do not have the time nor the energy to hoe and pull weeds before and after work.

I broke down and used Amdro for my fire ants - no more fire ants! I only put a tablespoon of the granules on the hill and in a few days they are all gone. Otherwise nothing got rid of mine and I respond very badly to them so I HAD to get something.

Hello from Trinidad and Tobago. With respect to the holes being made and the common denominator method, you can make as much of the holes in woven plastic as you'd like, and cover the ones you're not using , place something flat on them as if to 'plug' the unused holes. Uncover them whenever you change your crop.

After years of gardening experience, I made the leap to woven fabric this year. I even added drip irrigation for the first time. You are absolutely right. It is a game changer. You put a little work up front and then enjoy your garden essentially weed free after that. One issue I am facing is a reduced germination rate (about 60%) on direct seed crops - beans, cucumbers and sunflowers specifically. Kevin had a suggestion a week or so ago to use garden staples near seed areas to hold the fabric closer to the ground in those odd areas. I'm trying that today on areas I re-seed. Thank for the great content. Even us old folks learn some tricks from you.

A big thank you from South Australia. I've been following you for a while now and when I saw the weed mat you were using and walking on, I knew it was the answer I was looking for. I have 8 raised beds for my veggies and while I don't have a weed problem in the beds, the paths were a totally different matter. We have now lined all the paths with a woven weed mat and haven't had a problem since. The rain soaks right through, when I make a mess I can sweep it up and I have no weeds to contend with. I toyed with the idea of cementing or tiling the paths but didn't like the idea of the heat that would generate. This has been the perfect solution, and I have since used the mat in other areas too and love it. Thank you for sharing all the great ideas you come up with.

Thank you so much for letting us know about this weed fabric. I watched one of your previous videos a few months ago, and bought some woven weed fabric for our gardens, and it is a GAME CHANGER!!! We have tried the plastic in the past, and it just did not work, but this stuff is awesome! No problems at all!! Very little to no weeding, and that is saying something here in Oklahoma! God bless you both, and thank you again!

I remember my mom using this stuff in her flower gardens back in the 90's in Australia. An excellent idea in making your vegetable garden low maintenance.

Hello from Bedford Texas, I've beem using the same weed cloth from Grower Sollutions after watching your channel some years ago in my raised beds. It saved me a lot of work on weeding, Texas weeds are something else. I watch Danny and Wanda regularly too and a few others. Thank you for sharing.

Outstanding video folks! I watch you regularly and have following suit with woven weed fabric and drip tape irrigation this year. I often wondered how you dealt with the variety of growing distances for each type of vegetable and this answered my questions perfectly. Thank you for your videos and contributions of knowledge in gardening! Take care and God bless! :)

Thank you! We used your weed block this year for our garden in Central Valley, CA. It was fabulous! I can focus on planting and harvesting. This is our third year on our homestead and this is the first year almost totally weed free. So anyone reading this... order this same product from bakers creek! We tried three other products and none of them worked until this one!!

Good morning from SW MO too! We moved here from IA 3 years ago and also did the back to Eden way. Weeds were sparse and easy to pull up there. We did the same thing as you, cardboard and mulch. But weeds became taller than me! This year we have started using the same barrier as you and it is amazing! 3 acres of garden and I am still laying it but so worth it!

I will never go back from using this woven weed fabric! It has made gardening so much more enjoyable!! And....I live in NE North Dakota and we never got a chance to roll it up before the snow came so it was left out there ALL WINTER and it was perfectly fine! So grateful for seeing you guys use it so successfully and giving it a try!

Using it for the first time this year. So far so good, last years we spent most of our time weeding the garden, but this year we have two new grandkids and they are taking a lot of there mommies time and they can’t help as much in the garden right now. So I’m enjoying This so far.

Yes, Missouri weeds will try to do you in.
I have a big roll of this-going to spread some of it Sunday to grow watermelons & cantaloupes.
Good luck to you in your endeavors.

This is the second year we are using the weed cover and LOVE it We also do our cabbages with the floating row cover you showed us. Last year was the first year we got beautiful cabbages. Added a few cauliflower this year and we'll see how that goes.
