***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

I searched and found air2groundfarms before seeing this comment. I've subscribed and rang the bell, too. Thank you, from a Kansas City, MO, born-but-transplanted to Florida city retiree.
Nichole from flower hill farm CZcams channel has them and sells them along with other cool things
I love seeing homesteads helping homesteads, building community. Awesome example of how we should share skills and knowledge.
Everyone needs a Kevin and Sarah near them. It's always SO much better to have extra helping hands.
I JUST WET MY PLANTS!! Omg I need that shirt!!
T-shirt of the year!😭🤣😭🤣
I was thinking the same thing😂
I have one similar from Amazon. Love it.
I got mine from Tractors Supply.
@@JudyE13 Oooooh thanks! may have to run and see if ours has it!
Hey, Kevin, I have that same shirt! My wonderful husband bought it for me cuz he knows how much I love gardening. When I saw the title of this video, I thought, "in ground? I thought they were switching to raised beds?!?" It was so nice to watch you helping your friends and sharing your experiential knowledge with them. I love how generous the gardening and homesteading community is.
I love how you guys are helping each other. Working with friends makes hard work easier. ❤
So true!
The next time you are at Home Depot or Lowe’s, go to the plumbing department and pickup a PVC pipe cutter. It will make cutting garden hose and tubing much easier.
Thank you Kevin & Sarah for sharing your gardening expertise with us!! Now to get those plants GROWING!! ❤❤❤😊😊
Can’t wait to see it all growing!
Wish you were still going to the farmers market. Might see you there.
I like these videos where friends help friends! We use weed fabric on our 30x50 garden. Looking forward to your progress.
Kevin and Sarah, the one thing I admire about you both is that you teach, demonstrate and encourage. Blessings
Broke my heart seeing the chickens huddled together under the coops trying to escape the sun ... would a few trees or even a pergola or two in that area be beneficial???That could be another video project!! Rich & Shelley, yall will learn sooo much from Kevin & Sarah, they are amazing teachers!!! Thank yall for sharing the video with us & looking forward for more to come.
I put frozen water jugs out for my hens in the summer, they also have an awesome coop and the chicken run is 10x13feet with a covered roof. They are let out daily to free range under the trees and eat my flowers, they are also spoiled with fresh veggies and fruit.
We say “thank you for your service” Kevin!
From one ex-Phoenician to another I just want to say thanks y’all for such a great video. Love how you always explain the how’s and why’s of the methods you use. 😊
12 foot folded means it's folded in half, making it 6 feet wide and then rolled up to ship, just like the six foot one you ordered. When you get it, roll it out and unfold it. The row is now 12 ft. I had the same question until I ordered it and rolled it out.
Couldn't have said it better ourselves.
This is an efficient way to garden. I’ve used my same cover for the past 5 years. To offset the ground cover heating the soil during our summers I add a layer of cardboard under the cover. I add 2 to 3 layers of cardboard under the walkways. This holds in the moisture, keeps the soil temperature more stable and stops weeds from popping through unused holes. When it is time to plant, wet the cardboard and poke through. At the end of the season I pull up the cover leaving the cardboard. Then I hit it repeatedly with our mower to shred for compost. Be sure to use clean, undyed, tape and staple free cardboard.
An easier method of laying the landscape fabric
Out a piece of rope through the center tube’
Make it long enough for you to pull the fabric with out pending
Simply stake your starting point and pull the fabric. Only requires one person
Works great for us
Work smarter not harder!!
Enjoy your gardening!
I loved this video. Loved that it was friend helping friend. Learning new things and just an overall show of support. The two couples came together to show their love for gardening and each other and I really enjoyed it. I wish you a very happy and healthy garden a2g. I hope it’s your best garden yet! ❤😊
I use a foil pan lid to make a template for burning my holes. Then I have my spacing and hole size even. This also protects the surrounding ground fabric. Good Luck!
Great tip!
Great video. Tips were great today. We are laying ground cover this weekend for our high tunnel area and our in ground garden. The tip about laying the fabric with wind direction is something that I never would have thought about. And putting staples in sparsely on the bottom cover that will have the overlap makes great sense. I'm so excited for this yr . Not contending with the weeds, grasses, and having the drip tape will definitely be a game changer. It's almost cheating😂
Peace and Love Neighbors ❤️
That's an awesome looking garden! Great work helping out your friends and neighbors 😊
I love the weed cover!!!! I’ve used it for three years now from watching these guys. It is so easy.
How do you water with the weed cover? Will soaker hoses work?
Air 2 garden, thank you for your service! All of you, thanks for this video! It made me realize i can do drip irrigation on my own and i must have missed Kevin and Sarah's video doing it to their raised beds!
Took out the landscape fabric ( it inhibits worms and the healthy development of the soil underneath) and put in wood chips. When the chips degrade, I mix them into my raised beds during winter and get new chips to line my paths.
Great video. One statement I disagree with is no need to plant next to an emitter. That may be just fine with a clay soil or a good loam. However, I live in Florida and garden in a coarse sand. I find it necessary to use no more than 8 inch emitter spacing and preferably 6 inch for crops planted close together, such as beans. For larger plants, such as broccoli or tomatoes, I find it helps to plant close to an emitter, as there is very little lateral spread of moisture from the emitter -- it just goes straight down into my sand.
I was assigned a lot from my community garden center about three weeks ago. I checked it out the lot looked great, added some compost and additional soil. Planted about a week later, within the next week to two omg weeds galore. I was out weeding today and let me tell you it was so frustrating. My plants are just starting to take hold so pulling the weeds could harm the plants I’ve been growing all winter indoors. I was out there with a pair of scissors I’m sure looking ridiculous. The plan was to give my plants some time to get a little stronger. lol so that landed me here. After my summer crops are done if they win the weed battle this is what I’ll be doing. The weed is called nutsedge. They look like blades of grass so if you pull it and don’t get the nut at the roots they spread more, some of them don’t have nuts and they just spread like vines underground. How fun!! 😂 But I got a plan for them now. Video was great. 👍🏽
Thank you for how to properly lay this system down.
The little tips such as knowing the wind blowing direction and burning the weed barrier ends to stop the ends from further unraveling are very useful to know.
My two favorite couples together. I know Rich and Shelly (thanks to you guys)! Love to follow them. I always wondered if Air2grounds had a garden. I'm looking forward to following your garden.
Thank you for sharing this garden technique with us again... thinking of doing the same here. Great to see Rich and Shelley as well... team work makes the dream work! Blessings on both homesteads! 🌻🐛Carolyn in Ohio 🌿
Hello Sarah and Kevin 😊just letting you know the other day I was watching Hills Mill Homestead-he was about to plant some tomatoes and he was using wide rings from mason jars to make a hole with a torch so maybe you could use that idea to-just don’t touch them with your hands ❤❤❤❤
This was very enjoyable and I have fabric I have wanted to use for 3 years. I am glad I saw this so it will make mine easier. Thanks so very much for sharing!
Blessings
If you plan ahead a good rule is to put a silage tarp down 3 to 6 months before you put the weed fabric down. Put the tarp down and let it stay there for 1 month. Roll or fold it up and let the weeds and grass sprout then put it out again over the garden plot. Do this 3 to 6 times. Every time you do this you reduce the weed seed bank by 1/2. This will keep weeds from coming up through the holes in the weed fabric from where you plant and where you put the stables down.
I use the fallen oak leaves to put a 2-3" layer in between my plants and have no weed issues. They decompose to enrich my soil. Going from red dirt to dark rich soil. I had used the weed fabric and just really wasn't happy with it. Partly cause weeds grew on top of it......
I was watching another video where they used a canning jar ring when cutting the hole with a torch.
Great that you help so many others sharing the processes and tips that you have learned over the years, in person or via these videos. We at our place have never used the fabric or the drip irrigation but we think it is about time we do for this season. There are so many logical benefits. Thanks!
That was really a great video sharing and teaching another Homestead your way of doing a weedless and irrigated garden. I hope they enjoy their garden and have a great harvest like you folks do. Stay safe and both families have fun with what you are doing. Fred.
I got 15' 6" x 300' (folded) from Greenhouse Megastore. It is in a roll and the fold isn't an issue. Much better than 6' IMO.
Only down side that I have found with the fabric is slugs love it and the will decimate seedlings, you really have to keep up on your pesticides
Shelly & Sarh look like sisters!❤❤❤
Instead of the weed fabric, has anyone tried UV treated sileage tarps? I haven't installed mine yet, but it's folded 20ft x50ft in one roll, and use cutouts where the plants will go. That way, I only do a few sections to start with until I get my patterns down.
Great video as always, do you have a parts list for everything needed. Living in western KY. The weeds are a living nightmare. This is the best thing since sliced bread. Thank you for any help you can offer. And yes, God Bless you.
Easier to ship a 6' roll of weed cover rather than a 12' wide roll. The "fold over" is a 12" wide fabric folded in 1/2 length wise = 6' wide for shipping... at lease that is how mine came. WONDERFUL STUFF!
You're amazing. Sharing your experience and thoughts with friends is awesome. Thank you for sharing. God's blessings to all of you.
That's great ! Thank you Kevin & Sarah. Prayers. God Bless you all in Love. Maranatha ! ( shared to f/b )
Having extra help seems necessary when the wind kicks up. Awesome to help friends. I have shared this with my 1500 FB friends as a great tutorial.
Just went over to Air2Ground Farms and they are great👍👍👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for checking us out!! We’d love to have you in our community!!😊❤️-Shelley
This video was so informative, Please please show what to get for the electric fence and how to install
Rich+Shelley ( my name) thank you for your service ..Great teaching lessons..we are doing the same here.. So thank you
I couldn't fully read Kevin's shirt until near the end of the video, so I thought it said,"I just wet my pants" I was relieved when I finally saw it was plants. Whew!
I need one w if those shirts Kevin the wife and I have laughed about ever since we saw Kevin wearing it
So wonderful you can sure your knowledge with others. They will do great. Enjoy watching this always.
My 2 favorite homesteads in one video. Mskes for a great Saturday morning.
Very nice. We just made the switch a few weeks ago, and so far, so good. We also loaded it down with mulch after the plants went in. We did 3 ft between rows because we have a smaller garden area.
Good afternoon. Love the drip tape.
This is great! What a great tutorial on how to have a great garden! It's nice to meet your friends!! 💕
☕️ with Kevin and Sarah.
Nice to meet our new friends. I will give you a follow, but Saturday mornings are already taken by my favorite homesteading duo. 😊
Nice to meet you!
Thank you for checking us out! We’d love to have you in our growing community! -Shelley 😊
That was a good days work but working with friends makes it much more enjoyable. I watch air2ground and enjoy their channel very much. God bless you all.
Thanks for introducing me to Rich and Shelley. I love their sight. They helped me with my keto. It is the second time I got introuble because I wasn't eating enough fat.
Be careful when burning that stuff to cut it, I breathed it and got pneumonia from it… I was putting it down for my high tunnel
I bought sum coated or stainless steel ones for the second layer of my high tunnel
That’s the ground cover that the water doesn’t go through , is that the one that they wanted
That stuff works great … I bought a lazy garden from Hoss , and it comes with all the drip irrigation … my onions that I planted in it are the biggest that I’ve ever grown
I got the 12ft wide folded. It’s just folded to be 6’ and on a roll. You just unroll it and unfold it. Not hard. The hardest part was trying to put it in place with wind. It’s constantly windy here in SE Oklahoma. Think I’m going to get 8” staples for the future too. The staples (6”) where the fabric overlaps keep coming up.
It was nice watching you help set this up from as a new garden. 🌸🐨🌸
Hello Kevin and Sarah! Awesome video installing landscape fabric with friends and helping other homesteaders! 💖 I have to check into that landscape fabric to place in between my existing raised beds to keep weeds at bay!👍 Blessings to you and family!🌹 🦋 5/5/2024🦋
Working in the Pentagon is not a bad thing being in the Air Force for 25 years is a good thing I have family that’s been in the Air Force for 25 and 30 years and in the army so hats off to you my friend and welcome home brother hope your farm is great
Thank you for sharing, great video.
Was very interesting to watch. Good luck with the new garden
Good job! Well done!
Thank you for teaching this! I’m going to do this today.!! Your video popped up just in time to inspire me!
Awesome video and was so nice to see everyone working together!
You guys are wonderful!
I had the wind experience yesterday when I was trying to work with the 3ft wide DeWitt fabric. I'm just glad that I had the foresight to pin it down before I started really unrolling it. It had been calm until right after I cut my first piece. A timely gust came up and the last 6ft or so went flying. I have no doubts that I would have been chasing across the gravel road and onto the freshly planted farm next door.
We put down this fabric last year in our garden and it was a game changer! Thank you kevin and Sarah for introducing this way of gardening. Cleaning up in the fall was so easy. I grew okra for the 1st time but not sure how to pull it out of the whole. I let it die off all winter but still have a big stalk in the whole. Any suggestions?
You may need to widen the hole and then either cover over it with a swatch of fabric or just know you’ll need to pick weed there until the next plant shades them out.
Fantastic video guys. Great to help friends too
THANK YOU FOR SHARING 😊❤
Hi neighbors, we live between Ava and Gainesville. Glad to see more local people on here.
Makes light work😊
I've not had big garden in eons. Last huge garden I had decided to use newspaper between rows so I'd have area to walk on...rain goes thru. Each fall, I'd till paper into our CLAY (Indiana then) after that & all my straw, grass clippings, wood chips (I'd made them from chipper) & organic material it took about 5 years b4 I had decent soil the entire garden bed. My vegetable bed was only 8 ft wide but 100 ft long. I'd pick a wheelbarrow of tomatoes every other day during harvest. I was busy busy busy.
Good luck. God bless.
This was awesome show. I loved ❤it.
Good morning guys!
That's really nice! Blessings!
Nice sharing information with others
Good luck on your gardening 😊.
That is going to be a great garden.
I can relate. I finally gave up on my garden last year. The weeds were taller than me. I'm using landscape fabric this year, too. Thanks for the great instructions! God bless! And I laughed out loud at your t shirt, Kevin!
Good video! Very thorough. I am glad you addressed the pooling water. The fabric certainly made a difference for me where I used it last summer. No quack grass and Canada thistle to contend with. Like your shirt Kevin..lol. God Bless!
I use landscape fabric after watching you guys. I even did my sisters garden in weed fabric. She had thistle 2'' around before and was thrilled with the results.
Great video. ❤❤❤❤
Good job yall
Such a wonderful thing to do with friends; thanks for sharing! I love how you make things easy to understand & doable! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
Awesome gardening
Love you guys!
Many hands make light work. Great tutorial yet again! Thank you.
Your videos are so valuable for learning how to do something, if it's what you want information for. I first found you, when I was learning about soil blocking. You all do a great job putting out a great, enjoyable to watch, teaching video. The new garden area looks great+
Always something to learn and a new subscriber from Melbourne Australia.
I’m buying a home with room for a garden. Thank you for putting out the exact video I needed! 😊🌷
Great tutorial on installing the weed fabric. We live in the high desert in California and will be installing the fabric just to keep the weeds down. We decided to do above ground gardening like you all because the solid is just not conducive to growing a healthy garden. Thank you
That is a beautiful property. ❤❤❤❤
I'll watch them even more because of being military, lol. I'm prior Air Force too. Thx for all you all do.
Hey, I won't check out his channel. But he can fly a plane. And he was a Pentagon worker.
Pretty cool. both! I can't fly a plane, and I'm only an old Rush L. Fan.
Sharing is caring😊
Great video 👍
Love your new friends, following them too.
I live in central Illinois and we have a serious weed problem as well. Pokeweed, Canada thistle, and mustard garlic just to name a few. I’ve learned that if a space is bare and exposed a weed will find it!
