I hope you all enjoy the video, I had so much fun being creative and couldn't be happier with the final result. I am head over heels in-love with our bathroom! đ Thank you all so much for watching and I'll see you next week for another video!

Add rail in toilet leaving bottom half painted green. The top half could be left cream or pickup a color off the wallpaper florals. You could put antique medicine cabinet on wall across from toilet. Painting and wallpapering a tight area with lots of angles is much more time consuming than a large rectangular room. Great Job, Sage & James! What you did looks lovely â€
I agree!
agreed. And a dark toilet room isn't cozy and welcoming, it's oppressive. Had one in a rental painted dark brown. HATED IT
Yes! This is what I came to say as well :)
Definitely agree!
Totally agree!
It's like Chrstimas to see a 35-minute video from Sage!

You're my favorite vintage CZcamsr. I love that you're a normal person with a normal house and a normal budget. A lot of the vintage bloggers on here are obvious trust fund kids with endless cash and it's really depressing watching them sometimes because I'm way too poor to keep up with them.
My thought in keeping the wall the same half green etc. would be so that the room felt like it flowed well. I think if you painted it all green it would feel heavy and crowded.
Right? "I'm going to remodel this fifty thousand dollar RV so I have something cutesy to live in while I watch a team of contractors build a custom piece of modern art with six cargo containers--SIMPLIFY!"
You would have loved my childhood home -- a little Tudor -- because it was built in the 20s and updated in the 40s. My parents bought it in the 70s and really leaned into the blend of styles. Our dining room looked like a tavern, there were wood floors throughout, and my dad put up wainscoting in several rooms. They only modernized the kitchen -- with avocado appliances, butter yellow cabinets, and daisy wallpaper! That house was so cozy and full of character.
That sounds very cute!
@@RedRoseSeptember22 It was SO cute! Definitely helped that my dad is a woodworker and my mom has an eye for coordinating colors and prints.
Sounds lovely! Curious though if it had a lot of spiders? I don't like them and its what stops me living in an old house. lol
@@QueenNoTeetha151 Oh dear, I think every building has spiders! They're mostly harmless, though, and they do keep other insects at bay. I haven't noticed a difference in the various places I've lived: WWI-era apartment, 1920s house, 1970s townhome, 1980s house. When it comes to old houses, I'm more concerned about whether the wiring is up to code.
That sounds lovely. Tudor style is favorite, I love the idea of a little tavern dining area âșïž
The bathroom looks gorgeous. If it were my home Iâd choose to paint the small toilet space all green and possibly add the small vintage cabinet in there if the space allows for it.
I totally agree with the cabinet going in there. Great idea!
I thought of the cabinet that she bought going in their too. I hope one day she gets a cabinet made to go over the sink. The one from IKEA doesnât work and stands out like a sore thumb.
The vintage sink is absolutely gorgeous!!! You have such a unique bathroom now and it really looks vintage.
Thanks so much! đ
@@SageLilleyman Loving the pedestal sink and fixtures! And beaded board is a great choice (in my 1940's bathroom, too!). And you are adorable!!! A suggestion for next remodel- bring the mirrored cabinet over the sink down lower. You will need to cut the dado rail to allow it to lie flush. If there is not a stud to hang it on, you can add a cross brace between studs to carry its weight. Re: Water Closet- I would paint it all cream since it is it's own little room. No dado rail. Then hang a simple single piece of art on wall if you think it needs a little 'something'. Additional thought- what do you think about painting the metal trim on shower surround cream, also? I think the two of you are doing an outstanding job! Good style, good taste, and good execution of the task at hand! What more could you want?! I appreciate how 'real' you are with sharing everything, too
Oh my goodness what a huge job! I'm so impressed that you did it all yourselves! It's absolutely gorgeous! For the toilet area, I would put the rail on and then paint the top part a soft cream color that coordinates with your wallpaper. Then you could hang some vintage pictures for decoration. Lovely, lovely job, Sage and James! â€â€
I love the bathroom. A rail in the toilet would look great. I hope you find a basket for that bottom shelf because storage in a bathroom is a must. If you end up adding a hand towel hook or the medicine cabinet I hope you show us the final touches. The bathroom and kitchen really go together now.
Looks really nice. Idea for the water closet. Paint out with your Green. If you have any of the Wallpaper left you could search for a period picture frame and frame what you have left to tie into the main bath area. Just a thought đ
Love that frame idea! I'm fond of the wallpaper in my own bathroom, but because it's as old as I am (I think), I'm going to have to replace it when I have some repairs done, as it's not made anymore. I think I'll see if I can cut out a section to frame, so I can remember the pretty history of my house. It's not as though I have a lot of pictures of the bathroom wall, after all. đ Thank you for the idea!
I thought of that idea years ago when I was in a similar situation as yourself. I found a new wallpaper that was similar to the old but it was too exspensive. I kept going back for samples to frame in a row giving the illusion of a papered wall. Not to mention the beautiful frames.
Love the frame idea!
Great idea đ
You could paint vertical pinstripes to mimic the vertical paneling, except the difference in width will keep it lively and interesting. And you could display any leftover wallpaper in a bright yellow or gold curvy frame(s) to balance out all those straight lines.
It was a porch...they put outside porches on an angle so rain drains. That's why it wasn't level. Looks Lovely!!
True test of a relationship - home renovations!!
looks great! I have noticed that the modern mirrored cabinets, even reproductions, are much larger than originals. Fabulous job!
the frame around the mirror cabinet was a great idea. It really ties it in with the window and looks aestetically pleasing.
The end result is so beautiful.
As a green lover, I am chuffed to see someone not only do a makeover in a style I love, but also in a color I adore.
I honestly donât know which end result I love more: your kitchen or this bathroom.
I would paint the walls completely in the toilet area with a coordinating color in the wallpaper. I, myself, would go a little bolder, with the color of the berries in the paper! The bathroom looks great!!
The frame around the mirror was a great decision!
I had the same problems renovating the bathroom in my 1950âs house. The walls were paneling that was rotting away and when we pulled it down we found the outside walls. I painted and put up paneling too. I bought a mirror and matching cabinet from Amazon. It looks a lot like yours only no wall tile. I really thought I was the only person who would ever decorate like that.đ
You worked so hard on your bathroom, Sage! You both deserve all the enjoyment out of it đ itâs lovely!!
As to the toilet alcove, I would suggest paint it all green, you can use up any leftover paint if you have any and donât have to worry about railing it with the divider. Hope that helps!
PS are you a Swiftie?
Omgosh!!! It's gorgeous!!! You guys did a excellent job! What a difference. Well worth all the hard work. My suggestion for the toilet room would be to paint it all green. I think that would look best in there and make it flow better. đ„°đđ»
I literally felt your frustration. In the end, though, the bathroom turned out beautifully.
Great work by you both! Nothing like remodeling brings out the best in couples!!! I had to laugh I felt their pain.
I myself would carry the bath redo into t h e water closet area. Good luck. Lol from USA
What you've done on your bathroom so far has turned out great! It's all really beautiful but I especially love that you got rid of the clumsy vanity and replaced it with a more graceful-looking pedestal sink. Also love the contrast between the sink's shiny white porcelain and the green paneling behind it. The solid color below and the patterned wallpaper above is also a really beautiful effect. The way our bath looked when we bought our 1920s house is actually very similar to what you're creating. It had bead board walls, original oak floors, the original toilet and tub from 1925, plus a nice-looking pedestal sink from the 1990s. A lot of people would have ripped it out, but we kept it all. The only change we made was painting the walls a different color.
When I decorated my bathroom I put beaded board up 2/3 the walls with a small geometric wallpaper above it. It turned out so nice.
@@carolsummers8734 That sounds lovely!
You both have done a great, great job doing theses home improvement projects . Please give yourselves a huge pat on the back.. your frugal lifestyle, along with vintage vision and love for your little house has justified everything youâve dreamed of. We have enjoyed everything you both provide in video content, we continue to follow your channels and share with our friends. But, most of all we enjoy you both and your love of vintage appreciation of living. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You keep , being in love with this passion. I wish you would write a book about it all. ALL.. from, hair clothes makeup, marriage, house, cooking, traditions, holidays, hobbies, ect⊠Sage, you are the best. Your videos have helped me through a very long cancer journey. Your energy, and uplifting thoughts and humor bring hope to those who feel helpless. The color and wallpaper bring a fresh perspective to living life in the moment and to the fullest. Thank you Sage and James. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Love a faithful friend, Cheryl from Michigan, USA.
To be honest, I think the toilet would be great for hanging pictures or anything that you might be afraid to hang in the main part, because they could take away from the wallpaper. And I think a dado rail to separate the green and the white would really finish off the space nicely. Everything looks so pretty and I love it so much! The hard work really paid off
That wall paper and paint color are everything! Just gorgeous ! Well done
You both did a wonderful job in that bathroom. I think James is a calming force in your life (LOL!) and he's good for you. You're good for each other. I love your new bathroom, with or without the wallpaper. I also love green--mint green, sage green, olive green, you name it, they're all classy colors, but what you chose was really cool and classy!
Any couple who can tackle a renovation project together & still have their good dynamic intact have done EXCELLENT work to build a solid healthy relationship. That's a better test than premarital counseling! đ€Ł
I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW YOU POSTED!!!!!!! I LOOVE HOW IT TURNED OUT!
Anybody else see stuff like this and have a weird feeling you've been there before, like, you almost feel yourself opening those curtains to the accessories?
I love wallpaper. You chose a lovely bright but modest pattern that is very pleasant to see.
That's amazing!! I would say paint it green, it would match better and be very cozy.
I am dying at yall gagging over the sink pipe đ
đđ
Thank you so much for the bloopers at the end. The ladder shimmy, the couple quibbling, and the door randomly opening (your eyes đ€Ł).
Absolutely lovely!!! I adore that wallpaper! Great job! Love that put the âconversations â while renovating at the end!! I would vote painting the toilet room all one color, it gives the eye a rest and wonât compete with the gorgeous paper.
I think adding the railing in the toilet room, and keeping it two toned Would be best! You could always add some vintage wall art in there to spruce it up if you wanted! I think all green would feel a bit claustrophobic for you! As darker walls tend to shrink up a room.
The bathroom Reno is absolutely stunning. Congratulations on completing it! đŠđ±đđŒ now you can relax! :)
I would say put the rail up in the toilet room and paint the upper portion with an antique white. The bathroom looks absolutely amazing!!! â€
I think that painting the "toilet room" entirely that green colour would look best and the bathroom looks fantastic!
Absolutely gorgeous! Great job Sage +James. Paint the toilet room all green and put up some frames in there!
I love it so much, that your makeover was just working on what you've got instead of ripping off everything and making your bathroom from the scratch. It's more relatable so also more inspiring for me. I love how the wallpaper goes with green paint, it's so pretty!
Next time you do a reno please get a laser level! It will save you so much time and frustration. You can buy one from a hardware store for about 25.00. It is SO WORTH IT! Y'all did a great job. Looks beautiful. Love the sink, too.
I would materialize the separation of green and white in the toilets with a thin wood moulding. This makeover is perfect thanks to the lovely sink and the vintage wallpaper , and we feel back to the sixties. I love your transformations.
You are supposed to cut the wallpaper to size on the floor and then just put up the piece, that would be hard to do with the roll too...
Beautiful video, Sage! Love the green paint and the beautiful wallpaper. Thanks for keeping it real through the frustration! Makes one feel less short-fused to see others having equal difficulty renovating! Youâve gotten so good at wallpapering now!
The drama! đđđ I absolutely adore the sink! Itâs perfect!
My Dad, who was born in 1918, always said two things in the 1940's were VERY popular in home decor: wallpaper and painted furniture. His Mom's house had beautiful floral paper, not overdone much like your Laura Ashley paper. Just put the dado rail in the toilet, it would keep it from being too dark. I really like the soft colors of the bath, very relaxing! When you do something yourself, even though it takes time, you do it carefully and take pride in it. May I suggest signing and dating and under the wallpaper or behind some other place? So fun, and someday, you might see it again!
Your bathroom re-do looks fantastic! Projects like this always intimidate me, so I'm quite impressed with you and James's handiwork. My vote for the little toilet room would be to just finish it off with the rail.
It is so lovely to see you again Sage, you were dearly missed with your beloved husband.
TURNED OUT SO BEAUTIFUL. THAT COLOR GREEN IS BEAUTIFUL AND THE WALLPAPER MATCHES PERFECT. LOVE IT.
Thank you for always keeping retro beauty.
Wow, HUGE kudos to you and James. This was not an easy project with all of those issues that came up and all of the beams and little nooks and crannies to get around ... plus the step down, and the toilet basically in a separate room. It is so gorgeous, and you should be proud - I am proud of you! Also, I vote for the rail in the toilet alcove, and the antique medicine cabinet in there.
For the washroom toilet area, I would suggest picking a blue from the wallpaper, like the dusty blue grey of the birds, if you donât want to go as dark or deep as navy, or maybe even a shade darker than the birds, but light enough to contrast against the green. Maybe add a cute fixture in there without a ton of overhead ceiling work. Alternatively, maybe adding a hand effect of something like metallic like gold, antiqued brass, bronze, rose gold or copper.
đ€Łđ€Łi love that you showed the raw frustration of putting up wallpaper its so hard
my woodworkers heart was screaming at you, "with the grain, with the grain!!" when you were sanding.đ
Beautiful job! The trim on the mirror was a great idea! I love your banter with James too. You're such a cute couple.
OMG! I love that bathroom makeover! Sage, you are a genius!
Creative it sure about genius
Oh my gosh, this is such an inspiration! I love that there are other young people besides myself interested in this aesthetic... I love the final reveal!
I'd go all green by the toilet. I absolutely love the wallpaper and paint color. Well done, Sage and James! It's beautiful.
Your bathroom is absolutely stunning! I love it so much! I think you should just paint the entire room with the toilet in it, that beautiful shade of green you had chosen! We lived in a house that was over 100 years old. The bathroom had a beautiful clawfoot bathtub and a pedistal sink with a tap for hot water and a separate tap for cold water. I absolutely adore your house! And your chickens too! â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
This turned out SO BEAUTIFUL! Itâs amazing that you did it all yourselves - all the more reason to be proud of it đ„°
I love a moody toilet room for some peace and quiet đ
I would have new tiles put in and change the bath and shower stall, to something more inline with the 1940âs. But all in all I think it looks amazing đ€©
Gorgeous! All green is my vote, but you canât go wrong either way.đ
Your new bathroom is beautiful! I love the mix of wallpaper and green. For the toilet alcove, I think mirroring the style in the main room would be pretty. Rail at the same height, cream paint in place of the wallpaper. It would be great if the medicine cabinet could find a home in there. Maybe an additional cabinet above the toilet for more storage. I know if you are patient and persistent, youâll find the right final pieces. Great job, Sage and James! đ
Great job Sage, "what an accomplishment" indeed! You and James always seem like such a great team. I'd love to see a couples' Q&A from you both to learn more about him! My sense is that he's not overly into the vintage stuff personally but he's happy with it because it makes you happy and that's his priority! But maybe I'm wrong? It'd be fun to find out! âșïž
I think you should paint the toilet room all green! I also think it would look beautiful if you paint inside the alcove all green as well. I think it would elevate that area even more! đ LOVE the makeover!!
Perhaps go ahead and do the green wainscot in the toilet room, paint the top cream (or whatever color matches the wallpaper background) and hang a framed section of the wallpaper as art. Use your spare shelf as storage in this room. You might want to put your spare toilet paper rolls somewhere nearer your toilet. Very cute and cheerful!
That varnish idea is so smart, it's hard to find high quality wallpaper meant for bathrooms in patterns I like and I'm going to be remodeling our 60s bathroom soon (I wish I didn't have to but the shower is done in plastic tile and is leaking. Keeping the pink toilet and sink & original vanity though!) so I will definitely keep that in mind while wallpaper shopping!
Sage, you worked so hard and itâs beautiful!!! I ADORE the green and wallpaper together. Youâve really transformed this room. đđ»
I'd honestly wallpaper the toilet room as well. The bathroom is so beautiful. If the door was ever left open. It would blend perfectly with the rest of the bathroom. I wouldn't want my dream bathroom settling just because of left over wallpaper.
I have a horrific bathroom I've been trying to decide what to do with. Thank you so much for your demonstration of courage and taste in taking on that challenge!!! I feel inspired!
Fabulous Video!
Such a beautiful job on your Vintage Bathroom!
Such love, patience and dedication!
đđ
What a ride! It looks incredible â„ïž
I think the toilet room should be one of the Berry colors. Very soft but itâs own little space. Itâs so cute. Lovely job.
Just paint it all green. That shade is lovely! The bath looks lovely.
Thank you so much for sharing the Good the Bad and the Ugly of restoring your bathroom, lol. You did an AMAZING JOB! I love the wallpaper and the green color paint that you chose. You both are so normal about the arguing that goes on during a job like that. It was really cute to watch.
I'm not sure, but, I think you should paint the toilet area all one color and then decorate the walls how you like.
I really think paper it ,that way if later you need to touchup spots youhave some xtra paper, not papering the toilet would just seem like an unfinished project ,u dont want the toilet to be dark gloomy and feel stinky you want it just as pretty and matching all the rest ,,i vote to paper it
I would pain the toilet room all green, make it easy on yourself and that green is just so lovely. Also, someone mentioned putting the vintage cabinet you purchased in there and I thing that is a fantastic idea. The wallpaper is absolutely wonderful ! You worked so hard on it and itâs just perfect ! I love your bathroom renovation-you guys should be absolutely so proud of yourselves. đđđ
Great that you not only showed the work and successes but also probs you encountered. Enjoyed this very much. I am a former bathroom decorator 1970'S.
I was waiting for this one!!

It looks so good. I think painting the entire bathroom green would look fab! That green is so nice đ
Thank you for your wonderful video. For the toilet area, my suggestion would be, to keep the bottom half painted and add the trim. Then buy/use some vintage picture frames and frame any left over wallpaper samples. Maybe the small cabinet your purchased would work in there, above the toilet to hide toilet paper :)
The bathroom looks really cute Sage & James!!! Great job, I hope you find a toilet you like soon enough ^^
Sage that bathroom looks absolutely gorgeous. Oh my gosh girl you and James did an amazing job. Yeah it probably got to you at times but look at it. I'm remodeling my house this year and that wants me to redo my bathroom. I been looking for a vintage sink like that. I just love everything you guys did
Yes to the rail in the toilet with green at the bottom, cream (the pale colour in the wallpaper) above and green window frame. Your bathroom looks A maze ing. Well done Sage and James.
Paint the top of the toilet room a creamy-egg shell color. Then run the rail like the rest of the bathroom. Take a sample of the scraps left of the wallpaper and frame it as an artwork. Then hang on the opposite wall from the toilet the first aid cabinet you bought. Extra storage that is out of sight but still pretty to look at when you are in the space. Looks beautiful, Sage!
Been so excited for this one! Great work!
I think you should put the rail on in the toilet room.
You should be so proud of your hard work--the bathroom looks amazing. I love the frame you built for the mirror, what a perfect fix. I especially loved the cute squabble over the nails, reminds me of my husband and me, haha :) Best of luck finding your remaining pieces!
I love this! Thank you so much Sage!
It's lovely! My parents bought a home in the early 60's that was built in the 40's. Our bathroom was pink tile with pale green painted walls. We had ceramic fish and "bubbles" on the walls.
You have a way of showing all the beautiful happy pure simple sides of life Iâm totally obsessed with your channel x â€
I have been waiting for this! Canât wait to see the after! â€
OMG Sage I have been waiting for this!!! Sooo excited to sit down with lunch and watch â€
There is an 80's to 50's bathroom renovation in my future. This was great to watch. You and James did a fantastic job. I absolutely adore the wallpaper and paint combination. Your bathroom looks beautiful. After seeing the sink demolition đ€ą, I think I will hire a plumber.
All green in the bathroom! It is looking so lovely! đ
For the toilet room, paint the whole thing in the contrast colour of the pink/peach tile ?
aaa this is so cool! i hope to have a home like yours someday!
I say to paint the bathroom all green! Looks amazing! My husband and I are doing a bathroom remodel in our home too. We are working for a vintage look as well. Love what you have done! đ
For your toilet room, paint it all green and add a nice vintage picture. Additionally, if there is room, can you add some shelving to hold toilet paper? That is the room that is needed in, lol! Maybe shelf directly behind the toilet?
Watching Sage react to pulling the gross pipes out and wondering if sheâs still studying nursing đ â€

Sage stressing over the nail is me living life
I love the wall color and wallpaper! I really need to do a retro makeover in my home. The nostalgia vibes must be so cozy!
