Jomboy you have to include all of the craziness that happened in the fa cup this weekend in the next video. A fan falling off the stadium celebrating a goal, a fan chasing the ref on the field, and the wolves vs west brom chaos.
Hurling is a such a wild looking sport.
Imagine what it was like more than a century ago when hurling was played between towns. Truly a golden age for emergency room physicians.

Pretty sure a big part of it is that the field isn’t made of ice, so you can’t just rest your stick on the ground while you’re moving… gotta be able to pick it up and run with it.

A more fringe Irish sport to be on the lookout for is road bowling. Two men or women go head to head rolling a steel ball from one town to the next. Stroke play with spectators lining the road and rampant betting. Find some videos of road bowling from the 90’s, it’s bliss.

That wide shot at 4:38... for all of the field hockey I've seen, I don't think I've ever noticed the shape of the shooting circle - specifically that it's not actually a circle (or semi-circle) but rather more elongated. The stopper's location in that clip is almost flat. In my head, it's more similar to the three-point arc on a college (but not NBA) basketball court, or the 12-meter fan on a women's lacrosse field.
So once again, I learn something new about a sport from this series.

The thing that bugs me about field hockey, why are their sticks so short?! The candy cane end is odd too, but having to be all hunch backed has to hurt.
Same. I feel like anyone who plays that sport has injuries, but not from contact, just from running that way for 90 minutes!
Longer sticks might result in less control. I would guess the closer your hands are to the lower end of the stick, the easier it is to control the ball.

St. Peter's Prep grad here. Blows my mind to see the old school here on Things You Missed. And that rivalry against Hudson Catholic is great to see... been going on for decades and HC's nearly had to shut down a couple of times now, which is heartbreaking.
For those wondering about how close everyone was to the court at that one end line: I agree, actually. Unless they changed things from when I was last there, that's a set of stands that folds up that they're on. When they're extended, there's only a couple of feet between the end of the stands and the court. There's no room to the left end line because that's the auditorium's stage. And there's no space under where the camera is because that's about 6 feet of space for the team benches inside the sideline, and then it's just a wall. It's actually a pretty tight space they have there.
Also, I'm pretty sure most people know at least one St. Peter's Prep graduate: either Nathan Lane, Liam O'Brien, or Minkah Fitzpatrick.
