Thank you so much for covering dodgeball! I've been watching for a good few years now and been waiting for the right content to send over in the hope you pick it up since Things You Missed started. This Euros was fantastic and really well put together by the media team, we're improving every year.
The women's final also had a crazy finish so I will send that over as well, hopefully you enjoy it as much! :D
1:35 to clarify, it is the west championship game for university in Canada. The winner of the game goes to the national championship(Vanier Cup) and faces the winner of the east championship game(Utek Bowl)
That would be Montreal Carabins. They beat UWO.
Also it’s the UBC Thunderbirds, not Golden Eagles
Thank you.
My mom is from Osaka and my grandfather is a Tigers' fan. There is a tradition among Tigers' fans where they would jumper off a certain bridge in the city after they won a championship. When the Tigers finally won the Japan Series this year, my mom told me about her still being in high school the last time all this took place.
I've never seen competitive dodgeball like this. I'm fascinated by how quick they are to call themselves out. Is there a penalty if you try to pretend you didn't get hit? It's so crazy to see this level of honesty in sports, when one of the core values of basketball and soccer seems to be "fool the referees."
Hope you enjoyed it! We have referees on the sidelines calling the game as well, but yes there is a substantial reliance on honesty. It doesn't always work out but if a player cheats and the refs miss it on the day, ideally it is caught by the cameras and sanctions are given afterwards. I doubt anyone would have realised that #15 was clipped had he not gone out, so always great to see hits self-called like that yes :)
The 38 year Japan Series drought the Hanshin Tigers had between 1985-2023 is known in Japan as the Curse of the Colonel, in reference to a Colonel Sanders statue Tigers fan threw in a nearby canal, during the 1985 celebrations of the Hanshin Tigers 6 game Japan Series victory over the Seibu Lions. Also speaking about the Hanshin Tigers current manager and former player who’s name is Akinobu Okada, this is his 2nd stint as their manager, his 1st Hanshin Tigers manager stint was between 2004-2008 which included a Japan Series appearance in 2005 vs the Chiba Lotte Marines, in which, the Marines absolutely annihilated the Hanshin Tigers in 4 straight games out scoring them 33-4 runs, 10-1 in Game 1 in 7 innings, 10-0 in Game 2, 10-1 in Game 3, and 3-2 in Game 4.
I have no idea if you made this up or not but it's a great story.
This is a lot of information with no punctuation. 😂
Use periods and commas.
@@CRneuno I did not make it up all I said is based on fact yes sometimes the Japanese can be crazy

I want more dodgeball, please and thank you.
My goodness, that Dodgeball was enjoyable.
More professional dodgeball please, that was sick
Search European dodgeball on CZcams, they have all the matches from that tournament!
"Things I missed that I Never Planned on Watching" is what I always plan to watch
Never been a more obvious fan of the week
Wait. How come Austria won even tho there were more players left?
I think the other player might've crossed the middle line at the same time accidentally? Not too sure
So my understanding is that there's a clock and a certain number of "sets." If a winner isn't determined at the end of the final set, as in this case they were tied, it goes to sudden victory and the first team to eliminate a player wins.
Looks like we need Jomboy to start doing dodgeball breakdowns like he did with cricket xD
My bad, I forgot to mention that. Time ran out on the final session so it was sudden victory, next player out ended it
I agree with @@lknight1266. We need more Dodgeball coverage on this channel.
Would loooove more dodgeball breakdowns, that felt like the tip of an iceberg
The issue is that most of our video even on the national tour is from a wide view go pro . The is some good footage though!
Bro that breakdown seeeent me
@1:16 the number on the neckline is 80, and @1:24 the number on the jersey is 80. So without actually doing any research to confirm my conclusion, I am stating that that is in fact the "old man" that they are throwing into the air.
Came here to say that
Congratulations Australia on winning the Cricket World Cup. Pulled out a near-perfect game at the perfect time with a 90,000 crowd against them.
Congrats to Australia. Look, anytime there's a team in a stadium where some guy was enough of a d-bag to NAME A STADIUM AFTER HIMSELF while he was still governing, I'm gonna be rooting for you to take the L.
@@imightbebiased9311 Just like I would be rooting for any team to beat USA while they support the lunacy of Trump.
I love how when he says “And you missed it” it sounds like he’s so disappointed in me, and I actually somewhat feel bad about missing it
I play in a rec dodgeball league with some players that have played at a high college and state to national level, I had no idea what I was getting in to but it's so much fun when it is more than just throwing and dodging.
Uh yeah, everyone knows that. There’s also ducking, dipping, diving and let’s not forget dodging.
The NPB finals could have been a breakdown of their own for sure. The Curse of the Colonel might be something a lot of American baseball fans don't know about, and shows that sports superstitions are not just an American thing (if you're not aware, the Hanshin Tigers fans, after winning the championship in the 80s, threw a statue of Colonel Sanders... yes, the KFC founder/mascot, into the river. Japanese people often eat KFC at Christmas, it's a tradition there... anyway, after doing that, they didn't win another championship and in fact spent many years in last place, until finally breaking the curse this year).
Yeah, apparently the story behind that goes that fans typical jump into the Dotonbori River after big wins. (If you've ever seen that big ad of the "running" man, it overlooks that river.) They found lookalikes for all the members of the title-winning '85 team and those people jumped into the river... But there weren't any White people around, and they needed a stand-in for Japan Series MVP Randy Bass. (Former Minnesota Twin, and current Oklahoma State Senator.) So they chucked in a KFC Colonel Sanders statue.
In 2009, they finally found the thing, and they'd probably redoubled efforts to find it and end the curse because they lost the Series in 2003 and 2005. (One of my friends here was a diehard fan and would fly back from California every time they sniffed the title, only to come back sad and a few thousand dollars poorer.) They honestly came close so many times, I didn't realize they still hadn't actually won the damn thing.
To put this title drought in perspective, there were two teams that didn't exist since the last time Hanshin won the title. Those teams both won the title. There were also two teams that hadn't won the title and then merged, and then both also won the title. Of all the teams that currently exist in Japan, every single one of them won a championship in the gap between Hanshin Tigers with the exception of the Hiroshima Carp, who suck because their lazy-ass logo is the Cincinnati Reds' logo...and they last won in '84, 1 year before the Tigers.
@@imightbebiased9311 It's also worth mentioning the Hanshin Tigers are like *the* West Japan team, alongside the Yomiuri Giants in the East. Basically kinda like the Dodgers and the Yankees, the two biggest teams in the country, to the point where the subscription package for the Japan Pacific League online streaming would include interleague games specifically between the Tigers and Giants (who play in the Central league) because they knew the most people would watch them.
To add one more thing, in the clip one of the players can be seen briefly, carrying another jersey in his hands.
It's the jersey of former player Shintaro Yokota who died after a 6 year battle with cancer in July at age 28. His jersey was with the team for the whole run to the title I believe.
Always enjoy the things i didn't plan on seeing segments so fun thank you.
Dude you need to breakdown more dodgeball games, because that game was 🔥 also, it interesting to know more about the rules of the game
University football is nowhere near as popular in Canada than the USA. But I'm still glad you're giving us a shoutout! First a CFL clip and now USports? I must be dreaming
this series really snuck up on me and is one of my favorite things lately. thanks JB
Been watching your content for years now. Super excited to see you cover dodgeball. Its such a fun and fast paced sport with a ton of highlight moments. There is also a competitive foam ball circuit that has similar but different rules. Foam is more popular than cloth in North America, but both versions are a ton of fun and worth trying out!
Hardy Cup. Western Canada university final. Vanier Cup next weekend. UBC v Montreal
Thanks for showing Canadian sports some love! Much love from the University of Alberta
Thanks Matt! You rock!
I need more dodgeball clips in my life.
really good episode of this by you
Sooo. Dodgeball warehouse games when?
JMU inbound play is actually drawn up to perfection.
- If the first option isnt open, 0 has a great look for the corner 3 and if the screener's man helps its a drop off to 15 its actually beautiful
Jomboy!!! Crazy to see my university in a breakdown (UBC). BUT, you gotta put some respect on our mascot!! We are the THUNDERBIRDS, not the "golden eagles" 😂.
Much love from Vancouver
Just watched the rest hahaha, glad he got it right the second time 😂😂
Hardy Cup is a Semi Final. The Vanier Cup is the National Championship
Congrats to the Hanshin Tigers. The Curse of the Colonel is one of the more intriguing curses in sports history.
I want to see some Warehouse Dodgeball
DUDE! Recognizing the UBC T-Birds!!! (not golden eagles lol) hope you saw my comment suggesting the topic
"That's a bold strategy Cotton, lets see if it pays off"
best sports series on youtube you are doing God's work
The Hardy cup is a regional trophy. The College championship is the Vanier cup.
THAT DODGEBALL GAME LOOKS AWESOME
My favorite segment 🫶🏽
We need your skills for USA vs Trinidad and what made Sergino Dest go insane
The theme song this time was on point!
Japanese baseball is a truly worthy replacement for winter.
I love it.
More dodgeball please!
Some electric games in this one as always Jimmy
1. That try was insane and I think he did a similar thing in the next game.
2. I remember Smart drawing 2 offensive fouls on Harden during inbounds to win a game for the Celtics a few years back
Canadian here. Nobody watches college football. This is the first time I am even hearing of this league. I think I saw 15 seconds of a game during frosh week in my first year at university.
Hockey though, juniors get quite a bit of an audience. Curling actually has a big following by the older crowd too.
Used to go to some Varsity Blue games, and there would be like 100 people there.
The Canadian football endzone is enormous what in the world

My favorite part of this video
The curse of the Colonel is over
I need to get one of those ball retriever shirts
I’m from BC Canada and had no idea UBC was playing for a championship. COOL
Let's make high-level Dodgeball (co-ed or not) a big thing. Would gladly watch that all day over NBA and some other stuff.
It does for the most part exist! If you are in the US check out USA dodgeball, though we are mostly a foam country. What you see here is cloth. The issue is that it's a growing sport and there isn't a lot of infrastructure for it. Most of the USA tournaments are streamed on twitch at dodgeballttv. We are getting there !
I knew my tigers could do it! Theyve had a rough couple years but this year definitely looked better.
The Terps did this in the early 80’s. Dutch Morley peeled around Buck Williams, who drew a charge to win the game on foul shots. I’m going to have to dig up the play.
Was not expecting to see my own university in this
I actually just moved out of Kent Ohio like 3 months ago lol Cool to see the school on the show :p
This series is my Ocho. Nice Jimmy
Can you do a video of the fight in the Flyers/Bluejackets game from a day or so ago. The two heavyweights were duking it out then both mutually ended the fight and gave each other a pat on the back. Seemed super civilized but am interested in what the two fighters were saying to each other.
Casey from Pokemon is ecstatic
England still had one player though ... they should have it go all the way until the end.
This is sudden death after the 3 minute buzzer in cloth dodgeball. It is golden out meaning, if you get hit your team loses.
@@cocdumby147 ohh ok, so once it's 2-on-2 in sudden death just 1 person has to get hit?
Never seen it played with formal rules.
@@hoosierflatty6435 yeah that's it. Doesn't happen very often and to have it in the final was super exciting. Incredibly close game
You bugging man, keep up the good work
2:00 Holy shit my brother and his whole extended family was at this game, they said the last minute was bonkers as fuck....and here it is! I fully missed it.
James Madison basketball is a bit like App State football was last year. They’re incapable of playing a normal game. Game 1: upset Michigan State. Game 2: what you see in this video. Game 3: nailbiting win over Radford
are you going to cover the world cup final? huge upset! 😮
The Hardy Cup isn't the championship. The Vanier Cup, which is on Nov 25 is the championship. Its UBC vs. Montreal
Dodgeball in the Warehouse?
JMU: We're down 5 with 3.8 left on the clock, we can do this!
[Two OTs later]
Kent: We're down 5 with 4.5 left on the clock, this is impossible, let's just give up.
They actually had more time and didn't bother trying... that's the craziest thing to me.
My Golden Bears what a tough loss. Bad play calling burnt them
Didn't even mention the Curse of the Colonel finally being broken by the Tigers!
Here I am, all excited for the Detroit Tigers…
Then I realize it hasn’t been baseball season for over a month…
Hit to the face isn’t illegal!? I call shenanigans!!
Fan A has the winning moves, but Fan B has the winning smile. Tough choice
Canadian end zones are massive
Ok, we need a Warehouse dodgeball tournament @WarehouseGames
I missed all of this
That JMU vs Kent breakdown was hard to watch with how much flopping and theatrics are in basketball nowadays. It's really annoying to watch because everything is a big flop, a big reaction, and everyone complains the refs are terrible.
Do a breakdown of France 14-Gibraltar 0!
Dodgeball: to clarify, the white team girl on our left was hit just prior to the end of the match.
yes, i missed!!!
I’ll just say it so others don’t have to. It’s A, it was always A, and it was never even close. What a specimen
Dodgeball question: after that last clip it was down to a 2v1, England still has a player left, why did the match end at that?
In cloth dodgeball when the set clock runs out of time the point is awarded to the team with the most players on. He got that hit right before the whistle blew so they won the set 2 players to 1.
@@TheBulzeeb cool, thanks for the lesson (:
@@TheBulzeeb It had actually already ended as well, so we were in "sudden death" at that point! That's mainly why all players immediately stop as they know its over. Very close!
After 38 years, the Curse of the Colonel has been lifted!!!!
Go Tigers!
UBC repersenting Vancouver nicely. About time they actually something.
“You fuckin missed it”
Woah aggressive much 😂
Do we get a wc cricket final breakdown

Low key: Harlequins got the best looking jersey in all of rugby
Love the Japanese players with jersey numbers over 100.
Please cover kabaddi matches
I don’t know the rules of rugby but how was that a considered a catch in the first clip? The player never had control of the ball
I'm fairly sure to get a try you have to have the ball touch the ground in the end zone and one of your players at the same time. The concept of a "catch" doesn't really exist.
In the replays they seemed to be more concerned with his limbs being in bounds when the ball was grounded. To score a try, the ball has to be touched down, or grounded. He had enough control of the ball for it to be a catch, they just had to make sure his elbow was in bounds when he crash-landed.
I think?
I had to look up the highlights. I was confused about that as well.
You just need to be applying downward pressure on the ball touching the ground. As long as no part of your body is touching the ground out of bounds and the ball is in bounds it’s fine. Rugby doesn’t care about “catches” as play doesn’t stop on a dropped ball. Leads to some amazing tries though.
In rugby the objective is to force the ball against the ground (i.e. push it downwards into the ground) in the in-goal area not catch it in the in-goal area
DODGEBALL
I had to vote a and d
The last time this Japan baseball team won it all in 1985, the fans threw a KFC's Colonel Sanders statue into a river during the ensuring parade... which triggered a KFC curse
They finally broke the curse after the fished the statue out from the river after 30+ years and someone dressed as Colonel Sanders to jump into the river as a replacement
It wasn't called KFC in 1985.
I'm in North Dakota .

NPB = best baseball league in the world
NFL fans: I'm sorry, "catches" the ball???
Rugby fans also. He's not supposed to catch it and hold it, he's just supposed to ground it (and he did that by slamming it into the ground)
@@amireallythatgrumpy6508 I watch AFL too and their catch rule is reeeally loose, but this seemed crazy to me to be considered a catch
It's not considered a catch, but catching the ball is not what they need to do! All they need to do is push the ball into the ground without dropping it prior. Exactly what he did. @@saulspeaks2557
