    I enjoy your “yammering” because I always learn something. I have always wondered how to price in a fair manner, fair for me and fair for the buyer. I really appreciate you explaining how you price your art. Makes sense . It is hard for me to get my art out there. I live in a very very rural area, all agricultural area, so 🤷‍♀️. Maybe sometime this summer, in another state. Love that piece of art….I enjoy those type with my ink brush. You taught me that!!

    You’re so wise Pete! Thanks for your insight. One thing also to consider is although a particular painting might be small, you can still charge more for its uniqueness, difficulty and a couple other things. Small pieces can be really detailed and intense to create. They can be matted and framed (so an upsized finished product), but the actual artwork is still valuable. I’ve painted bookmarks, finished with tassel, signed and all originals and got $10 a piece for them. Now those are tiny canvases! lol

    I totally agree with your pricing guidelines. I'm new at selling my art. I don't have a following and have only sold a few pieces. This doesn't mean I don't think my art is good or that I feel like it's "less than." I don't. But I'm a new artist entering the world of selling my art. Right now, I'm pricing it at what I believe is fair and relative to other artists at my level. And sometimes it takes me a long time to finish something. There is absolutely no way I can price my art based on how long it took me to compete a piece or how complex it may be. I will definitely be raising my prices as I grow and get more maturity in my work....and have a longer track record of sales. Thanks!

    I had no idea those copic fine liners had replaceable innards!
    I also had no idea how folks price their art. It's so complicated. I wonder how artists figure out their prices on classes or their patreon tiers.

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes, the SP version of copic multiliners are metal and you just replace the nibs as they wear out and ink as needed. They also have plastic ones that you throw out. 👍🏻
      For Patreon, they just usually find an artist they follow and duplicate the structure. For classes, it's usually what they want to get hourly. 🙂

    I agree with most of what you said except for the part asking for understanding the poor CZcamsrs who praise bad stuff - trying to get you to buy it via their link - because they need to pay their bills. Hitmen do need to pay their bills too but that doesn't make their "work" worthy of my support 😉
    If one of the creators I follow starts to praise things they disliked not long ago and (=because) they now have a deal with the producer of said things I'll keep an eye on that and if they do it repeatedly I'll unfollow. I know that the impact of it is minimal - miniscule even - but I need to do that "for my soul" 😇
    About the shorts: I don't watch them. Usually I watch at 2x speed for crafting videos or 1.5x speed for videos like yours (or of people who talk extremely fast to begin with 🙂) and with shorts it's not worth even starting them 🤣
    Have a great week 🥰
    (Edit: agree with, not agree to; sorry!)

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I agree with what you are saying. What I mean is, some CZcamsrs do not do their due diligence around the companies they partner with. If they are intentionally deceiving their audience that is another story. The way it was presented to me, if I wasn't thinking, I might have jumped on it. But I always try to investigate the company first. In this case there were some bad business practices by them so I turned them down. I'm sure there are CZcamsrs who only care about the money and lie. Ditch those idiots. But some people are just naive and don't realize what they are doing.
      I hope you have a good week as well. 🙂

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  Před 4 měsíci

      Thank you! Sometimes I do but I'm not a fan of the flat water brushes. They don't quite have the water control figured out for those yet. I like to use a large water rush or a regular flat water color brush but in a pinch, if all you are doing is wetting the paper then they'll do it. I hope that helps. 🙂

    That makes a lot of sense. Artists do have a strange relationship with money.
    Artists are too much preoccupied with ethical issues, and amongst others - longevity of the work. They go for the best, priciest materials, and that's another mistake.
    If you buy a hairdryer, it will have a warranty for.. what, 5 years? Where I live, the warranty for a new build house is 10 years. Ok, some pans have a lifetime warranty,but that only means, that they gonna work fine, until they won't. I won't even start on technology stuff, a laptop, that is only good for 2 to 3 years is a travesty! And phones... Nobody asks their producers to make sure that their products are going to work for a 100 of years, even in museum conditions!
    But artists are striving to make art, that would last for ages ( in museum conditions 😂). Why? Imagine, how many more artworks you would sell, if they only would last couple of years. Is the cherry blossom less valuable than a rock, only because it only lasts for a couple of weeks?
    Longevity is not always a good thing.
    The marriage of a couple known to me was in danger, because the husband would fix any old appliances at home, thus preventing his wife from buying a new piece of equipment, because the old ones were working just fine, he would keep fixing stuff, and that made her go off her rocker... no kidding! 😂

    i think yours makes since. i have tried pricing by the sqr in and i always feel like i am charging too much. (not that i have any sales at all, let's just say it's a good thing i am a house wife) no one is going to pay me even min wage for the hours i spend, with out materials, in my area. better question, where/how do you sell? etsy? ebay? gallery? private website? nothing i have tried seems to reach people who buy my art. 😂 ah, i bet i know who 😉 i have seen several artists doing big art hauls from them this year. glad you turned them down. i did a small plug for beam paints early this year (non sponsored) because i wanted to try some shimmery colors and share the experiences. i have started on the path less explored, smaller companies (though ds will always be my first love) just to see what else is out there. i hate shorts. they cut off before i am ready. how does it end? where did it start? i want the whole story but i hate chasing it down because so many will just never have the rest.

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  Před 4 měsíci +1

      When it comes to selling art I have limited experience but from what I know, the audience comes first. Build the relationships and then sales come. I haven't sold much but what I did was all from people I have already spoken to several times so they wanted to support me.
      I don't mind getting supplies from manufacturers and trying them out, as a matter of fact I have some products coming in soon, but I wouldn't put my audience in danger. I don't even mind reviewing products I think suck, but I'll be honest about it. 🙂

    Also. I do funny short cat videos. Otherwise, long videos only. If I am taking the time to click, I am not interested in digging for the rest of the content. I have adhd. I’ll get lost. Also I am usually painting or doing something else as the same time. I need to stay productive. I refuse to be a slave to the algorithm or app, AI or “the boss”. So I will stick around because you bhave the perfect content. ☺️

    I wanted to be a good fit for Fuumuui. I was happy to receive their brushes twice and shared my Art with them. Until they asked me to script my review of their paper. They sent me a block of their "professional" grade cotton watercolor paper, and it was horrible. I've used Baohong Academy/Meeden, Bee Paper and even Strathmore 500 series. I think I know what good budget friendly paper is and what they sent, wasn't it. I tried to give them that feedback, with video footage of how bad the paper was, and they wanted me to basically lie about it. They even sent me a link to another creator's video of the same product, and they told me to say what she said. So lie? I cut ties with them. I still use their brushes, but I won't promote them ever again. Now I'm cautious about who I accept to collaborate with. I don't have people emailing me all the time, but if it's not a good fit for me and who watches me, then it's a no. Hugs 🫂 my friend... we are lucky to have you!

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I agree, I tell the companies up front that I'm going to be honest. The reputable companies respect that. As a matter of fact some good companies take the feedback and try to improve their offerings. You just need to be careful that the company is honest and doesn't try to abuse your community. I have some products coming to me now and that was the deal I gave them. I'll be honest and throw in a discount for my viewers if they want to try it. That video is probably a month or two out.
      The pleasure is all mine. I appreciate you. 🙂
