  • This is the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro 1LT 1LE RS. Aesthetically a camaro, but a slightly controversial situation under the hood. 4 Cylinders, instead of the exalted 8. But this one has the 1LE track package, so it gets a bunch of goodies from the trims above. James and Thomas jump behind the wheel to see what its really like. Because at $36,000 CAD, it seems like a surprising amount of car. Watch and enjoy. SUBSCRIBE!

      whats turbo threshold??

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot Před 5 lety +63

      @@mxx996 Turbo threshold is at what minimum RPM you can expect the turbo to reasonably spool up. So take a Fiat Abarth for example, its turbo threshold is about 2.5K rpm, below which the turbo isn't doing much. However, at say 4K rpm, when going on and off the throttle, you'll see the turbo spools pretty much instantly with almost no lag as its not that large a turbo. The result is that it has a relatively high turbo threshold but low turbo lag.

    • @willdebeljak7062
      @willdebeljak7062 Před 5 lety +33

      @@mxx996 the RPM range of effective boost is the turbo threshold. Turbo lag is the latency between off to on throttle where the turbo has to get back up to speed to create the boost.
      For threshold think big turbo supra, they dont make any power until like 4500 rpm where they suddenly gain boost pressure and make a lot of power. This is because the turbo used is calibrated to flow more air than a small turbo and needs higher exhaust flow to get to the boost providing speeds.
      On the contrary the turbo lag doesnt always rely on the size of a turbo as it relates to system pressure. When off throttle the turbo isnt spinning from exhaust gases and needs to accelerate. During this time no boost is being made. When throttle is applied the pressure in the intake system is quickly used and not replaced with boost from the turbo. This gives the feeling of "lag" from when you press the pedal to when the car is making full power.
      Lag can be limited with close turbo placement to the engine block, like the BMW M5 and M3 engines where they are in the "V" of the V8 and a part of the i6 exhaust manifold respectively. Or active systems like anti-lag.
      Long explanation but hope I could help.

Not many ppl will be able to realistically use the over 400HP in an SS on roads without getting in trouble so this is a great middle weight option for American muscle cars

      400-500 hp is easy useable daily driving accelerating from a light without braking traction, getting on to a highway quicker, changing lanes, those small pulls you do when no one’s around. That power range is probably the sweet spot honestly for a daily or weekend car. Now 600hp+ is where you start to get into trouble without trying. To be fair most people get the v8 for the sound and feeling it gives you.

    Loving these Camaro vids. I bought a 2.0t last September and absolutely LOVE it. I did a test drive in the 4 cyl, v6, and v8 and the 2.0t was a no brainer. Don't get me wrong - the SS was the most fun to drive. The v6 sucked - has less torque than the 2.0t and I felt like my v6 honda accord could run laps around it. I tested the 2.0t last.... I was sold as soon as I put the pedal down. Not only did I save over $10k compared to the price of the SS, I'm continuing to save on gas (34mph avg highway on cruise, 22 avg in city... and that's because I have a heavy foot) and reduced maintenance costs over time. The 2.0t is an excellent daily driver and a hell of a lot of fun when you can let her open up. 0-60 time blows my mind. Even when you reach 100mph she's still begging for more... couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Prime example of an MBA exec making a business case for a car that ultimately nobody will want or buy. I love it! I would have never known about it if it wasn’t for you guys! Thank you! Very honest fair review. I’d consider buying it for the following reasons, ;
    1) It’s cheap - only $30K
    2) it’s a turbo - gives you that fun extra little pull.
    3) It’s a standard/manual transmission.
    4) I won’t kill myself by being tempted with 600+ HP of the V8.

    But times change.
    These days, I don't need a roaring beast that guzzled gas and shakes windows as I pass. I've got nothing to prove. A reliable, maneuverable car, with decent trunk space, and enough power to handle mountain roads and passing on the highway are what I need. Add to that decent fuel economy, and this looks like it could be a winner. Could be...
    Couple issues I'm noticing are driver position and visibility. Those narrow window slits are questionable, and not having a place to rest your arm could be problematic.
    I'd like to compare it to the Ecoboost Mustang.
    I know, I know, but it's 2020, and the big three have scaled waaay back on car production. From Chevy, all they offer are the Volt, Malibu, and Camaro.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot Před 5 lety +2

      @@MLeeder53 That's actually a misconception, at least in Texas. The Type R's are selling with no manufacturer rebates at full MSRP around here. This is verifiable by doing a TMV search where they put together all the recorded sales for an average, and you see they go for $36,620. No discounts on new means higher resale values on old, but you didn't SAVE any money because you paid full MSRP. GM is the exact opposite, by setting MSRPs that are far above their true sale price in order to make consumers feel like they got a "good deal". A Camaro I4 with the track package by contrast has an average TMV of $26,118 after $1500 in incentives and a selling price not only well below MSRP but well below invoice. This means that used vehicles will sell for cheaper than new ones (duh) but appear to have massive depreciation from MSRP... but nobody pays MSRP. So to compare a $26K version of the Camaro real street price with a $36.5K Civic real street price makes no sense, and would make the Civic seem better than it truly is. After all, the Edmunds TMV for a SS Couple with the track package after incentives is $36,630, almost identical in price to the Type R, and I think we know the Type R would not be able to hang.
