- Welcome to Endfloat! In this step-by-step guide, I'll show you how to upgrade your MK2 Golf's central locking system to remote control using an affordable kit from Temu. I bought this kit on Temu for only €33, so let's see how well it works! If you're tired of manually locking and unlocking your car and want the convenience of remote central locking, you're in the right place.
In this video, I'll walk you through the entire installation process, from mounting the driver's door actuator to integrating it with the existing OEM central locking. You don't need to be a car expert to follow along - I'll explain each step in detail, making it easy for anyone to tackle this project right in their own home garage.
Here's what you can expect to learn:
The tools and materials you'll need for the installation.
How to remove the door panel and access the central locking mechanism.
Installing the new actuator and wiring it up for seamless integration.
Demonstrating the remote central locking system in action.
This upgrade not only adds convenience to your daily drive but also enhances the security of your vehicle. Plus, it's a satisfying DIY project that you can accomplish without breaking the bank.

Nice mod and totally agree the retro noise of the compressor whirring away never gets old. Seem to remember all the power just passes through the door switch alright.. they kept it simple.
I love the reaction from people when they hear it if I lock the car from the inside! "What the hell was that!?"
Wooow. Can't wait for the weekend to watch this video in pieace.
Cool stuff, I'm a big fan of the way you explain things. So if I understand correctly you can also do this mod on a Golf that doesn't have central locking by just installing that actuator in every door instead of just the one you did, and leading the wiring all the way there from the fuse box? And what happens to your old key? I imagine it's a bit scary to leave the old "manual locking" key at home just in case the mod fails haha.
Yes that's correct. You can use actuators in every door. You will still need the key to start the engine though!
great vid, this is really what I'm looking for. If you don't mind, can you let me know what is the wiring of the master actuator? Balck to Red and how do the other two (brown and white) go? Thank you!
Excellent video and very good analytical description! I would like to ask if we install this system to a mk1 with manual locks if then we could have both the remote control and the keys as options to open the doors.
Yeah, but you'd need to install the full set of actuators, not just the driver's door one.
@@Endfloat Thank you very much! Keep up the great work!
Great video.
Should this kit work without the replacement actuator or did you fit it due to the damage to your current one.
No, your original door switch doesn't have the motor in it. What you could do is leave the existing switch and attach the rod from the actuator to the locking mechanism.
Agh yes. So the remote activates this switch. Then the original system kicks in for the other doors.
@@Deckie27 exactly. Or in the case of how I did it, the new actuator has a switch built in for the driver's door, which I used.
Can this be done with my mk2 that has manual locks?
You'd have to fit all the actuators then. Certainly doable though.
@@Endfloat Thanks, could you link it to Temu? I cant seem to find it
I’ve found the rubbish wires that are used in Chinese electronics is usually aluminium
Let's just hope it doesn't get all melty!
