Fitting a Cheap REMOTE CENTRAL LOCKING KIT to my MAZDA MX5

  • My MX5 doesn't have central locking, which was fine, until the door lock broke and made getting in the car quite a pain. So I fit the cheapest generic central locking kit I could get from Amazon. This video should be useful for how to fit this kit to any old car as the process is the same, just that the trim removal is specific to an MX5/Miata (obviously).

    To anyone watching if you need to watch this video, which is helpful, just skip the first 4:30 and you get to the project at hand.

    I'm not sure I saw in the video where you show how to wire indicator lights or park lights for when you lock or unlock with the remote. Does this kit have that feature like stock central lock?

    In the process of doing this myself, do those door plugs stay tight/watertight after drilling the clip out?

    Hi there! great video, did you ever end up getting the trunk release working? Also do you have any issues with the battery dying after installing the central locking on the constant 12v. I just bought this same kit and installed it and my miata died after leaving it for a weekend.

      I've had a similar problem. Did you find a solution?

    Hey lad, thanks for the video, I have a combo c van that required an engine change, and the replacement dash and ignition barrel only had one key, so now I dont have my central locking anymore. Do you think this kit would work on my van? Cheers. Paul in Ireland

      @RustLocker  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes mate, I think you could get it to work on the van even easier if you used to have central locking then the stock actuators are still in the doors, just mount the new ones in their place.

      @@RustLocker ah great stuff lad!! Great channel too by the way, I have a few mods done to my combo, like mk1 Audi tt seats, E46 rear lip spoiler, Meriva clock faces, as well as the tigra boomerangs. Am also waiting on the facelift front bumper and projector headlights. Would like to send you some pics but not sure how. All the best. Paul

    Ello mate great video but of a random question but what alloys do u have on ur combo I need to get some but can’t find any 5 studs that fit cheers mate

    • @RustLocker
      @RustLocker  Před 2 lety +1

      Those are Corsa Sri alloys, 4 stud though. My combo has 4x100 stud pattern. Maybe look for some Astra wheels? Just make sure they’ll fit before you buy em.

      Thanks mate can’t wait for ur next video and I will look the Corsa alloys up mines the 1.7 combo so 5 studs 110 pattern I think are urs still the 15 inch or can u fit 16s

    • @RustLocker
      @RustLocker  Před 2 lety

      @@foxthewoodturner1765 Those are 16s mate. could maybe even go bigger, as long as the width of the wheel fits in the arch, but 16s seem to fit just fine.

  • @vicn17

    You installed motors on both the doors? I just ordered a kit, but my NB locks both doors if I lock it from the drivers side, so do I have to install a motor on the passengers side? Or would it work with just one on the drivers side?

    • @RustLocker
      @RustLocker  Před 2 lety +1

      Yea, so you have central locking already, so one motor on the drivers side, should in theory open both doors.

    you place your actuator motor wrong you rotate it upside down so the water will not fill the motor

    • @RustLocker
      @RustLocker  Před 2 lety

      I’m not sure what you mean mate, it’s a sealed plastic unit, it’s just as sealed at the top as the bottom is.

      @@RustLocker rotate it vertically thats what i mean, and its not sealed ive seen many actuators like that i open a lot of that and its impossible to be sealed there is no seal inside the shaft

    • @RustLocker
      @RustLocker  Před 2 lety +1

      I don’t see how I could mount it vertically though. The rods to connect to are horizontal.
