Charles Doppelt was a German born leatherworker that immigrated to the US. He created the separate small leather bag to hold toiletries as an addition to full leather luggage sets. The Doppelt Kit exploded in popularity nationwide, and the name was shortened to Dopp Kit. The durable leather bag later won the contract for US Armed Forces soldiers in WWII living out of their duffel bags. The term Dopp Kit became a permanent part of the American vernacular for any separate toiletry bag that fits in your luggage.
