I love how she pulls the lgbtq+ card whenever she’s in hot water. Maybe she taped this before shit hit the ceiling but releasing clips like this probably was completely planned. Her pr team knows it’s pride month and are probably hoping to clean her image up lol
Glad I wasn't the only one who saw this pop up and immediately thought exactly that. They have material like this clip here all ready to go for when the celebrity/star/actor steps into some bad PR like a pile of wet shit. I guarantee you they've been holding onto this while waiting for pride month to roll around because it's worth double empathy points or whatever. Strategic, for sure. Interesting to see that every other comment is about her being an absolute villan to people so if anything it just reminds us all of her awful manner.
I think she does deserve some credit for what she has done for lgbtq+ folks. Back when she came out, it had consequences and was a lot scarier even for people in positions of a bit of privilege. She clearly understood why doing that was important both for her and other people. She couldn't know that it would pay off later, it had pretty uncomfortable consequences for her at the time and probably limited her opportunities. Representation for demonized minorities is important, because it humanizes them, and being part of that group and seeing someone like you still succeed and that there are people willing to embrace you inspires hope. I appreciate her for that.
It's unfortunate that THIS had to become a legacy overshadowing the lesbian trailblazing, but she made the bed I suppose. I don't think she's irredeemable, hurt people hurt and the abusive behavior is probably a product of all the shit she's been put through, but I sincerely doubt that a person desperately grasping for media attention is doing a whole lot of reflecting and soul-searching. I wish for her growth and wellbeing, but it's for the best that she is no longer in a position where she can wield her privilege to hurt people.

I feel like she was encouraging people who are afraid of publically revealing their lifestyles, for fear of being judged. Well, 1) how I wish everyone was as open, and that the world would accept everyone in our different identities, 2) opening up doesn't necessarily mean that what you're disclosing is right, but it eliminates the hypocrisy.
If we convince ourselves that whatever we do is right, as long as we're open about it, the world will soon be in total chaos.

Why would anyone take any advice from her? People like her need to understand anything she says or shares about her life lessons or experiences has no weight behind it. People 30-ish, and younger, might not understand how difficult a decision it was to come out in the 90s, or earlier. I’m not actually that big of a fan of her work. I don’t have any dislike towards her, she’s just not my brand of comedy. However I admire her for helping others in her situation.

I thought she was gay when I was younger and still didn't understand LGBT+. I only know of the hate Ellen received when coming out because my own mother went from loving Ellen's comedy to completely removing Ellen from our household, and I didn't understand why.
Now that I'm older, I respect what Ellen did when she came out, as it gave even me inspiration to love myself and others, no matter what we choose.
The negative stuff that she did recently is unacceptable, but that doesn't change the fact that she's helped many lives, both with money, and mentally, and for that, I thank her.
