How to: Yarn Faux Locs

- I know this video is a little lengthy but I wanted to make sure I provide enough basic information on how to install your very own yarn locs.
I used:
* 1 bundle of red heart acrylic yarn
*carols daughter Mimosa Hair honey
*Vonte Silk Effects Gel
*comb
*lighter
*hot water

Aya Maya I believe they use the hot water to get rid of the stiffness of the faux loc. Makes the hair move able.

Gorgeous outcome! How long did this set of yarn locs last? Also, how did you maintain by keeping clean and is there any worry for mildew?
It lasted me 8 weeks but I could have gone on to about 11 weeks. I was just tired of seeing the same hair for that long.

I just use a door knob to wrap my yarn then cut the end that’s towards me by putting the scissors in between the 2 halves of the yarn

Hi Kersti, how did you love having this style on, I know it's been a few years, but I've never braided with yarn before and I was wondering whether it's any better than regular braids. I'm kinda tired of kanekelon braiding hair.
Try yarn braids first trust me u wont regret it

Local beauty supply stores usually have them for a dollar plus tax
How do you wash your hair with the yarn locs?
Cassie Hellene you just wash it how you usually wash your scalp, with shampoo and water and just scrub off the build up if you have any

Will moisturizer help keep the braids in while I wrap cuz they always fall out...

the styles are meant more for black hair, the texture supports them.
Amari That wasnt nice. The youtubers hair is silky as well. A lil more textured than caucasian hair. Just a lil. Lol
Use a wax or a light moisturizer something that wont give you alot of slip since your hair is silkier.

Evadne Rock i did mine that long and it took me 2 days, no joke! But the result is worth it. Hope it lasts long though

+Kersti Pitre ok so all this time I thought they braided their hair with the KANAKELON hair and then used the yarn to wrap around the KANAKELON braid!! I'm joy a fan on the yarn ones though I like the KANAKELON ones, just use regular old braiding hair on me. So now knowing they actually braid with the yard I really won't ever get them installed

why did you dip the yarn in hot water if u burn da tips ?

should your hair be clean when you do it ?
Yes your hair needs to be cleaned and dryed in the form that you prefer. You can blow dry or just do a braidout overnight so your hair will stretch and you can skip the heat.

how long did it take to dry when you did the hot water?
It took about 3 hours I think. If you use a hooded dryer to aid in the drying time it will cut down the time significantly.
I did mines by using my 2 door nob to the furthest door nob in my home to measure my yarn, then I just braid regular braiding hair in my hair and wrap, lazy method lol
Hard work. so many time to do this i guess. a whoole day? by the way very nice but couldnt be so patient

Question . I am a mother of 4 boys . All women experience what u are. what you need is a vitamin ( FOLIC ACID ) NO LESS THAN 800 MILLIGRAMS a day. I was a hair stylist for 18 years and this also worked on my clients who were experiencing hair loss do to menopause . If you are breast feeding you will continue to use the folic acid 1 year after from day you stopped. You will see a difference in your hair in one month if you are consistent with the vitamin. Also make sure you read the back of vitamin to see how many milligrams is in one capsule. I have yet to see folic acid come in 800 milligrams. Normally it's in 200.
If your still taking prenatal vitamins that does have it in there but you will need to read the back cuz it never is enough...if you do try this let me know how it goes... Thank you for your easy yarn faux locs.
