I have always been so fascinated with Iceland in Eurovision and this year Systur’s entry is just magical. Maxxy, you’re such a great interviewer and it shows that you were all just vibing together.
And I am so SO happy seeing your dream come true! You’re rocking it!
I got a little emotional when I saw your insta stories from last week, when you were sharing about the anxiety of going out and exploring. That reminded me that beneath all the glitz and glamour, everybody’s just the same child that has dreams and fears.
It’s visible that you’ve become more comfortable now, making friends, interviewing artists and such. You’re a natural and I hope you’ll be able to attend Eurovision every year, because yours is probably my favorite ESC-related channel.

This was such a great interview! I learned quite a bit about them in ways I wasn’t expecting! These are the kind of nontechnical interviews I adore when they get done. Sure I know it’s a song contest and so there should be questions about the songs and other topics related directly to the contest, but when so many are already asking those questions it just starts to feel like no one cares about the people performing the art itself. So your interviews are very refreshing to get to watch because you move beyond what others are asking and ask things that show care about the people/person performing the song, you just let them speak, and you listen really well and ask really good questions related to things they might’ve just said.
I already like Iceland’s song. It’s definitely one of the songs this year gets repeated a lot. Listening to them talk during this interview it really helps me understand where the song is coming from and it makes soooo much sense now (well I mean, it didn’t make any literal sense to me until I looked up the translation of the lyrics, but I mean sense in like one’s inner sense....if that makes sense; it’s something music definitely can do as can some other forms of art).

And I’m right there with you Maxxy, I have wanted to visit Iceland for a long time. When I was in elementary school there was a lady who was the wife of a US military guy stationed in the city I grew up in. She was from Iceland and she’d visit the school one day each week. Some days she’d share stories about Iceland or bring neat cultural things. Other days she’d work with us doing various different types of arts and crafts projects. I found a book in the school library about Iceland and I remember showing it to her and I made a comment that books only show what they want tourists to see and she pointed to a photo and said “No, that’s just a normal town. That’s what it actually looks like. It’s nothing special. Mostly has people who fish live there.” And I remember thinking then as a kid how much I wanted to see Iceland if this beautiful photo I was looking at was just a photo of a small normal town there. She’s also the one who taught us about eth and some other letters that used to be used in English before the invention of the printing press and standardizations.
I LOVE Iceland this year. I hope to see them in the final.
