The four-leaf clover is one of the most well-known good luck charms in the world. In the 1600s it was thought to be able to ward off witches and mischievous spirits. Later it was said that if you found a four-leaf clover, you’d meet your soulmate the very next day. Nowadays, it's a generic good luck charm, but how did this little plant become lucky in the first place?

I love going through old books at antique stores and finding a pressed 4 leaf clover in the pages. 🍀
How often does that really happen?
@@nmcgunagle Not often lol I’ve found three over the years.
I find hundreds each year and last year with the 738 that I found, I went to the local libraries and hid them in the children's books. Occasionally I sneek one in the adult books too.
I have a bunch of old journals and folders from childhood, where i collected, dated, and stored all the 4-leaf clovers i'd find at school, in our yard, etc.
Hopefully it's just as good luck to hoard them.
Well once you max out your luck meter it resets to zero. So it really depends on exactly how many you have... 😉
The clover is actually an edible plant 🍀
Literally, any plant is edible. The only difference is that for some of plants you can do it more than once
@sergeystadnique2393 That may be true. But, during the pandemic, I did extensive research about common weeds and wild plants that are edible. I've even learned about medicinal plants. For example, Verbascum Thapsus, commonly called Mullein. It's a wild medicinal plant that's used for a variety of respatory ailments.
No, but there is a clover-like plant that IS edible, it is the woodsorrel
@@Dolph1nVR omg it's so yummy, I'm salivating already 😂
You don’t think clover enthusiasts at least tried them as kids? I’d pick the 4 leaf one and chew on the big 3 leaf ones.
From my experience I think they are more common. When I was a child, I liked to collect the four-leaf clovers. I remember at specific day where I was able to collect 15-20 plus some five-leaf clovers as well, and I couldn’t have used more than 1-2 hours.
They are a genetic mutation, so I could be that you found a veiled where that mutation was more prevalent
@@JnMkl.3510 Unfortunatly no, but I have pretty good life :)
I’ve been finding them for over 260+ consecutive days & counting. 🤞🏾🍀☔️
Some good info as always! 🍀 ☘️
Excellent video, as usual
I found 7 in a very short period of time once & then was in car wreck later that day. I wasn't really hurt though, so maybe it was still lucky to find all of them.
You know what I'm sure those two events are actually linked. 😂
@@stevenutter3614 There’s no verifiable evidence to prove nor disprove any correlation between the 2 events. While I ever so astutely picked up on your sarcasm (don’t think I take issue w it, I’m a big proponent of it myself) I’m just gonna leave it up to any individual who hears or in this case, reads about my multiple 4 leafed clover/pretty serious car accident experience to decide for themselves what to think about it. I am somewhat superstitious myself but not really on the luck of 4 leaf clovers even though I do still find myself poking around clover patches from time to time hoping to find one so I can put it in the big family Bible & forget about it for a few years🤣
Thank you - very interesting. Just a little mistake, the plants in the photo at 5:18 are not clover but wood sorrel, which never have four leaves ....
Great videos! you deserve more views
I’ve been finding them for over 260+ consecutive days. 🤞🏾🍀☔️
Fry’s four leaf clover. A great episode of futurama.
Thank you! For your English too!👍
Four-leaf clovers are easier to find today. Botanists have found ways to grow clover fields in which every plant has four leaves.
Is the curtain and the skull a reference to a waterhouse painting?
Great vid! Seamróg is pronounced "sham-rogue" in Irish just to say!!
You’re correct. I find them daily. Over 260+ consecutive days and counting. 🤞🏾🍀☔️
In the five leaf clover lies a devil.
False.
Fun!
Today I just found the four leaf clover and I hope that my luck will change for the better or tomorrow or even the next day I hope I just hope that my fortunes and also my life will have very good luck and I also a very great life with a better or greater because sometimes a 4-leaf clover can bring you good luck it just takes time but I'm not going to push it I'm just trying to take my time with my luck 🍀🙏😌🙏🍀
They're more common than that, because I find them all the time. It's more like how common is red hair among humans. It's basically non-existent in Asians, but only uncommon in parts of Europe. Likewise, the white clovers that have rhe distinct circle or rounded square line on them like the one in this video, and are the common green color have fours pretty often, I'd say 1:500, so it's not too hard to find a bigger one in a good patch. On the other hand, I have tried my luck at ever finding one among clovers that have leaves with a more blue hint, or other striking features, and have never seen one. I have found five-leaf clovers among the standard white clovers with the circle/square line on them. Also, leaves that are long and pointed have four the most, with round/oval being a little rarer, and the more desirable heart shaped leaves the rarest, but the shape of the leaf has less impact on rarity than the color.
The mistake of 1:5000 or so occurs when you look amongst the boring, plain, green clovers without the line on the leaves. Also, the line helps to find them, because a more symmetrical four-leaf clover will stand out, if the lines on the leaves form a square.
On average there is one in every 3ft by 3ft patch of clovers, so that is rare in the sense that it’s one among thousands, but not rare in that patches of clovers are everywhere
I find them every single day. Over 260+ consecutive days and counting. The odds are still 1 in 10,000. In some rare cases 1 in 5000 depending on the patch. 🤞🏾🍀☔️
Why is this video unlisted?
shouldn't there be some biological explanation for >3-leaf clovers by now? like, is it a random mutation? is it actually good or bad for the plant?
i have a feeling that 3 leaves is probably the optimal resource-to-photosynthesis conversion for the average clover, since it is by far the norm, and that 4 leaves is probably suboptimal but not by too much.
It's possible it's not selected against because that minor difference, i.e 4 instead of 3,has literally almost zero effect on the plants fitness.
Do the shamrock shake
Return from hiatus!
Where can i find them now?
Aisle 3, right by meat and seafood.
Þe 🍀 is so cool
Ah, the secret fourth person of God, as proved by the four-leafed clover! ;)
The fourth ‘lucky’ leaf represents GOD’s Grace, not a fourth deity.
I think I'm lucky cuz I found it ❤️
I find them everyday. 260+ days consecutively and counting. 🤞🏾🍀☔️
I’m just watching this because it’s Saint Patrick’s day.
@2:44 It is theologically incorrect to say that the Trinity is three "people". The word "persons" (not "people") must be used. This is because of the distinction in Greek between hypostasis and prosopon. The term hypostasis refers to the inner person whereas prosopon refers to the external. Christianity teaches that God is 3 hypostases/persons, not 3 prosopa/people.
Omg, very obnoxious nit pick.
a god with different faces or manifestations is truly a cool concept. in the world of Game of Thrones, the main religion of the Seven Kingom is that of the Faith of the Seven. most people in that world understand it as there being seven different gods, but acording to the the priests, it is only one, and each of the seven is no more than a different reflection of it, which is sybolized in the typical seven pointed star and the seven colors of the rainbow they use as the religion's symbols. human ingenuity is truly something else.
I read a old book that said never to pick a four leaf clover because it could set a troll free
Well that explains the sudden increase of trolls in my town. (vows never to pick another).
Which book
Shamrock and seamrog are pronounced similarly
How do we get this guy more views and likes? I see no difference in quality between his stuff and other more popular edutainment videos
I find them daily. Over 260+ consecutive days and counting. 🤞🏾🍀☔️

Weren't you referring to John Milton?? I've never heard of a "John Melton."
1620 by Sir John Melton: "If a man walking in the fields find any four-leaved grass, he shall in a small while after find some good thing."
This doesn't sound right to me. The superstition that four leaved clovers bring good luck is a belief that is wide spread beyond Ireland. If it did truely originate there and originated there recently, this wouldn't have happened.
It might be a Celtic belief but it must be certainly very old.
