    Lots of reviews I've seen corroborate the high input latency at 60hz. I hope it's something Asus can fix in a firmware update cause it seems incredibly weird. I do play some games locked at 60hz and it would be annoying to have to hope that Low Framerate Compensation solutions would need to work to have a usable input latency.
    Unless running the game at 60fps while letting VRR do its thing while the montior itself is at 280hz doesn't affect input lag? Is that the case?

    • @RTINGSdotcom
      @RTINGSdotcom  Před 4 lety +2

      Definitely weird!

    • @Weaver_Games
      @Weaver_Games Před 4 lety +2

      @@RTINGSdotcom I definitely think something funky is going on though. The latency reviewers are measuring is awfully close to two full frames at 60fps. To run at 60 fps each frame holds for 16.6666... ms. Multiplying by two we get 33.333333... ms for two frames then then if we add the around 1.5 - 2ms ish input lag the monitor normally has at 280hz we end up with around 35ms which is roughly what everyone is measuring (we need to keep in mind there will be some small margins of errors and discrepancies in testing methodologies).
      I lack the technical knowledge to understand why this would be the case or if it's fixable via firmware.

    • @josipreponj1928

  • @zaphy6342
    @zaphy6342 Před 3 lety +12

    So the input lag is bad at 60 Hz and good at 280 Hz but what about in between, let's say around 120 fps with VRR? I feel like that's quite an important information since that's a realistic framerate for more demanding games on mid to high end systems, most triple A PC games run at more than 60 FPS but nowhere near 280... Ofc this monitor is aimed at people who play games like csgo but most of these people will still play other games aswell. So is the change in input lag linear across the frequency range or does it spike when it approaches the minimum?

    • @vitali6618
      @vitali6618 Před 2 lety

There is another Alienware that is 25" and 240Hz that I was looking at but after watching some reviews the Asus seemed to perform better overall and the Asus has an optional overclock to 280Hz vs 240Hz. @LastAphelion Před 3 lety

      @@TOKYOminttt I've had mine for 2 years now. I've been pretty unhappy with it in regards to being mainly a multiplayer gamer. My conclusion was that I don't care about having 1440p resolution at the cost of more fps and crispness, but hopefully I don't eat my words and regret sidegrading to either the reviewed monitor or another 1080p 240hz. Games like OW whether on low or high settings remain blurry and never crisp (I'm not bad at fps, I happily excel in other more challenging games like Battlefield where I can get multi kills at longer distances with projectile physic weapons (or getting consistent rocket and tank shell snipes within 1000s of metres on Planetside 2), but in all these two years I NEVER felt confident on popping heads in OW with Mcree or Widow etc. It's always jenky blurry and never smooth feeling trying to hold over the pixel I want. I'm always left angry when red Mcree magically perfectly tracks me, meanwhile I can't even consistently track him [maybe its just OWs shitty design and less the monitor IDK why others don't have as much trouble with me on dps]), the 27" size is also massively offensive, I hoped that I'd adjust to it, but I never did, it's just so much real estate and my twitch aiming and tracking has never been as consistent as when I peaked with an older 24" 60hz monitor.
      I otherwise don't know why my gaming performance has sucked so much while using the pg279q, I thought higher resolution would give me an advantage but it almost feels like as if I was playing with less fov, which is probably the feeling of not being able to track everything going on across the full 27 inches easily (constantly scanning around, trying to find distant targets, only to get surprised easily by someone at an off angle), I hope that explains why I'm hoping to go back down to a 24.5 incher.
      For single player games focus I guess I'd recommend it as ok, but if you focus on online gaming, prioritize more fps for sure. Wait for higher hz 2k with better panel quality and the hardware to support it maybe. Problem is even for newer single player oriented games like Borderlands 3, I struggle on my 1080ti with low settings and frame cap at a gross 60-70fps, as if often dips below this in many areas and during lots of action. So even then I hope downgrading to 1080p will net more frames for me in future single player titles.

      @@Weaver_Games Displayport 2.0 will allow 4K@240Hz @ 10bit HDR. Need the whole IT industry to get onboard asap to support it.

      Weaver Games pointless to ask them man.. they dont NEED that much hz.. but they WANT it.. 120hz is perfectly fine.. they want 1440p res. as a default with 120hz+ .. ok fine.. but give it steady 120+ fps..

    If you're reviewing a 280hz monitor, why do you keep bringing up the response time on 60hz? it doesn't seem like it should really matter? if your pc can only run 60hz then you shouldn't really even consider getting a 280hz monitor in the first place.

      I want to push quality on games like cyberpunk and it hovers the 60 mark on my pc, so that mention saved me. Yes I know I can drop settings etc. but this still helped me.

      There's no quick release feature, but you can remove the stand. It can be VESA mounted (VESA 100x100).
