    great video! the DC deckbuilder was not only our first deckbuilding game but the first hobby game that got us into the boardgaming hobby. now my girlfriend and I have the whole collection in the Multiverse box as well. really looking forward to the Rebirth set. it looks like it's going to shake the whole experience up a bit.

      You might look into finding the discontinued Street Fighter and Naruto decks, for more variety, if you're interested.

    If I only had a couple of hours left to live, I'd spend them making Jonathon play Dc Deck Building. Muahahahahah!!!
    Hey Will! Did your group ever try out that "star-shaped" Cthulhu Realms styled lineup? We use it when we play Rivals/Confrontations to help isolate cards for teams (at least somewhat) so it stays a bit more thematic.
    Great video overall! You really do need to match the Crossovers and Crisis expansions with the appropriate base set, or you will gimp gameplay...unless you do like we did, and create your own cube of cards from various sets. We're always tweeking our cube for game balance, but it does let you mix-and-match everything...which is really cool.

      DO get the Birds of Prey set to go with the Titans set, early, and see if you concur -- the resulting game is so much fun, to me.

    I also have every set released and I forget how some of the sets actually worked while using only what was in that box since I've mixed all the heroes together into a giant pick pile. While using random heroes from any set makes some of the expansions better IMO. Personally I love the teen titans core set but my group hates it, turns take to long and some of the combos in that deck can really break the game.
    We tend to play the Heroes Unite set the most cause it is probably the most balanced set out. You can collect almost any of the type of cards and your deck will still flow pretty well. Unlike other sets were if your not building a certain way, you will most likely lose. IE- if your not playing super powers in DC Core....your probably gonna lose once Man of Steel flips over.
    But regardless of set we are playing or with any of the expansions this game is fantastic. I've put tons of hours into all the sets except Arrow Crossover 2.

  • @TheLomdr
    @TheLomdr Před 5 lety +1

    I've had games of Forever evil go as long as a game of Elder Sign (2 hours), and it felt like a drag at the midway point (Unlike in Original Blue, if a 12 Super Hero shows up in the timer stack, the game screeches to a halt. The last time I played Forever Evil as a 4 player game we nearly decked the line-up deck before we defeated the final super hero).
    At least the promos still do exist, but they are still 3 bucks a piece in the Geekstore. Also, you have to be careful as to what set they go with (Outside of Starfire being the First Print promo for Heroes Unite and Kid Flash the same for Teen Titans, Skitter is also made to be more friendly for Teen Titans than any other set as her ability sets off on cards you CONTROL, not OWN or PLAYED)

  • @zacdredge3859
    @zacdredge3859 Před rokem +1

    I haven't played the Arrow set but I will note that putting stuff under your hero originates in the Base set with one of the Super Villains, so it's only a different focus not a new mechanic.
    Personally sounds quite interesting and I really like how well Oliver Queens's ability tracks onto the Green Arrow as a character; storing Equipment as if using a quiver is perfect and much more on point than the other playable Green Arrow. My biggest dislike with it is just that mixing live action images to comic art is a bit kitsch and several of the characters are just too strong.

    I love the Arrowverse shows but it doesn't look like the crossover set is worth it. I think they need to make a core set with the Arrowverse shows with dceu expansion pack, just simple yet fun mechanic. Next on my list to buy is Teen Titans with the birds of prey expansion

    28:03 - the word you're looking for is "blender." As in, "Munchkin Blender." I know, different game, but I've been thinking about this for years...
    though admittedly less for DC and more for _Street Fighter_ × _Naruto._ (Ibuki, Guy, etc.)

    Hey man love the work - great rankings, love your criticism, very well thought out and honest. Big time into Dark Knights Metal idea, big time into that VP time travel idea (will use going forward). I can't believe you're dropping Rogues and New Gods anywhere other than 1 and 2 (also multiverse in the same category? Say what??). Forever Evil is the one, you're the man.
    Big time idea: in any set, play using Super Villains/Heroes as tokens the same way New Gods uses them. Creates a more balanced gameplay, same question of buy now or build to buy later that New Gods does so well.
    Up for debate, is Teen Titans Go an authentic member of this group? Not too sure on my end, but happy to play - definitely think they have the best idea of weaknesses.
    Love the work.

    • @nickbrutanna9973
      @nickbrutanna9973 Před 3 lety +1

      TTGo is nominal... it unquestionably uses the Cerberus Engine, and involves DC characters, so.... yeah, kinda sorta fits in. And since it's FAF, it's worth having. As I note at the top level, Crypto would be really really smart to create an expansion that replaced the kicks and weaknesses with something like TTG, and perhaps even had all the superhero cards from the Base and Heroes Unite sets with obverses that allowed them to be played as "backup" heroes (adults aren't "sidekicks").

  • @tommygodwin609

    What is an average end game score for this game?
    I just started getting into deck builders about a year ago and I have 5 different marvel legendary games and Harry Potter: Battle for Hogwarts and those are cut and die, win or lose.
    I have the base set for DCDB and Forever Evil and I just play 2 hands and see who wins at the end but I have 0 idea if I have a high score or not.

    do the new gods and jsa expansions mix well with forever evil?

    • @antenna_prolly
      @antenna_prolly Před 3 lety +1

      JSA works with everything, really--it's based around Starters, though its location is kind of the polar opposite of Earth-3.
      New Gods is just good overall.

  • @estefancastrellon

    What are the best sets to match with Heroes Unite?

  • @nickbrutanna9973
    @nickbrutanna9973 Před 3 lety +2

    OK, have to TOTALLY disagree with you as to the expansions. I personally found Birds of Prey, combined with the Titans set, to be the best overall competitive version of the game. The two individual mechanics sync up perfectly to synergy the game play.
    I DO agree with you about TTGo being an awful lot of fun, because it's just silly. And I'd like to see an expansion that maybe had alterations of weaknesses and kicks in place of the "core" standard ones. Perhaps with some "sidekick" (call 'em "backup") variations of superheroes to be included with a given set of heroes (i.e., take all the base original cards and give them a "sidekick type" flip side... do this for both the base set heroes and the heroes unite heroes)
    I did find the New Gods expansion to be fun.
    The BIGGEST complaint about the Multiverse box is that it just absolutely FAILS by not having one GLARINGLY obvious thing:
    Enough room suitably designed for the oversized hero/villain cards (Also. side bar: WHY THE #$%#$%# did they make those cards in an odd size that doesn't match ANY $#%#$%$# sleeve on the market?)
    I'll also note that it's now too small for everything, if they are sleeved. I literally had to make my own version, much larger, with four instead of three, columns, as well as a separate area shaped to hold the hero/villain cards separately.

    • @antenna_prolly
      @antenna_prolly Před 3 lety

      Yeah, they've been at this for a decade, and they've had normal-sized card sleeves on their site before, so it is baffling that they never made sleeves for the big ones.
      I have over a hundred....

      Dan-The-Man Hey man
      Considering the popularity it’s really like finding friends who like dc and card games in general. I got like 3 friends that we use to play yu gi oh and they all love the game.There are like 3 sets for two plaYers mentioned in the video and they are for themselves that is you don’t combine them.You have the core sets,crysis sets and expansions.In the video the guy really explained which sets you can combine the cards.

  • @noahk1300

    My rankings would be for core sets 5. Teen Titans(most people I play with don’t like it either) 4. Confrontations 3. Original set 2. Heroes unite 1. Forever Evil. (I’ve never played the watchmen expansion, I’m saving it for when I get around to finish reading the comic series) 8. Birds Of prey 7. Arrow 6. Batman Ninja 5. Legion of superheroes 4. New Gods 3. JSA 2. Rouges 1. Multiverse. Then I prefer Batman vs joker over green lantern vs Sinestro and I haven’t played the crisis expansions but I just ordered them, I thought why not complete the collection even if it cost a little extra to buy the first 2, I’ll get teen titans go and dark knights metal for my birthday in a month I’m sure

    Your base set list is exactly the opposite of mine. I can't stand the teen titans base set! You're absolutely screwed if you don't have any opportunities to buy ongoing cards. Played it twice, wanted to gouge my eyeballs each time.

    • @nickbrutanna9973

      As I note above -- get the Birds of Prey expansion to go with it. I found the TT base to be "weak". But once I added the BoP expansion, it becomes far far more playable.
      Yes, YMMV, but I think you will at least concur it's much much better with the two mechanics going on.

    I used to love this game but as a new gamer I didn't understand that some expansions weren't built for specific base sets. I Hate how they did this. Plus the whole thing about having cards that only triggered off other cards. Some keywords just never occurred.
    I'm done buying stuff from them. They should make it easier to combine expansions.

    • @Pelcurus
      @Pelcurus Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah. A good rule of thumb is to just avoid Crptozoic all together. It's almost always going to be poor design wrapped around a licence. They don't even get things thematically accurate most of the time.
      The Marvel Deck building game is much better, although you need a few expansions to make it good.
      If you want licensed games, IDW is usually pretty solid.
