Folk song......National treasure. The first time I heard this, I cried. I don't speak Russian, but it moved me. What normal, average hillfolk were able to create in the late 1600's. No television or smartphones to distract them.
Basically, a death song. Absolute chills.

The short haired blonde has the voice of an angel.
She's also one of the most famous and established folk vocalists of Russia (she's more into folk rock though, but became famous as a folk singer in russian TV at the age of 11). This is from the russian 'The Voice' and she was a judge. The other 3 were her last contestants at that time of the show. The dark haired girl came out second in that year. It was pretty common in russian shows for judges to perform with contestants from their teams during such shows, just for entertainment.

There's a few misconceptions here, in the original post and replies. I'm sure that the vast majority of Russians are wonderful and their history of music and arts is wonderful ( as is this glorious song). However, the idea that the people and their leaders aren't connected doesn't stand up. Just look at Germany in WW2! However, the reply that mentions people voting for the leaders is also incorrect - Russia is not a democracy. It's run by corrupt dictators and has been more or less since Stalin!
Sorry, but ignoring the president that has become a dictator is the fault of the people. Politics are reflected everywhere in Russia
