Hi guys, you've seen it live but check out the video. They copped it for years about being so up themselves in their silk suits on a yacht (you'll see in the video) that people missed the great music (mainly guys). this was one of if not the first music videos (along with Hungry like the wolf) shot on location in antiqua/Sri Lanka. they were made to do these mini movies with the music. it broke them in america like you've never seen. One direction - they seem quite smalkl in comparison to duran mania in 1094 in the US. cheers, Matt

OMG!! John Taylor's bassline! He's a King of Syncopation. And the ghost notes are just nailed it. It gives dynamics to the whole song. Still love this song in 2024
I saw this video for the first time when I was 12 years old in 1983. It blew me away. And that's when I fell in love with John Taylor and his bass even though the video doesn't have him playing bass. I at that age didn't know what a bass was. I just knew it looked like a guitar. I appreciate his playing many years later even more after finally getting to see them live for the first time in 2022...

Simon le Bon probably wasn't holding on for dear life on the yacht. He sailed the Whitbread round the world race (now the Volvo ocean race) in '85. No lead singer would do that at the height of his popularity, but he did.
The ship in the video was a racing sailing ship called The Drum. Simon bought that ship and raced it.

Simon was an avid sailor and so you see that in this video. His raced boats and his boat capsized during a race and he and his crew almost died. Great band, great music, great videos.

If you think about it, the perspective is the opposite of what HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF pov was since Simon Le Bon was the stalker and here Rio has the power.
You can rent those floating platforms. A lot of tropical islands in the Caribbean have them for private tanning. 😊
The minute I saw this video it was over. They have been my lifelong obsession since. When i finally saw them live 25 years later, I called my Grandmother so she could hear Rio live. I thought she should considering she had to deal with a 7 year old me when it began. I have a twin sister too. It was madness!

Rio was like 1984
The album Rio was released in May 1982 with the Rio single being released in Australia in August '82, in the U.K. in November '82 and in the USA in March 1983.
I was responding to them saying it was 1994. More like no it was in the early 80’s.
