    I had to laugh at your comments about making the song better - you’re speaking from your current perspective in 2023. The 80s music scene was so different (obviously) from now, and all the over the top crazy 80s stuff was amazing coming out of the slower, songwriter ballad 70s (not including the late 70s disco scene). It was exactly right for the time, and trying to listen to it now out of that environment isn’t going to be the same. The Nile Rodgers remixed version for the radio was what took it too #1!

    • @jc_mck
      @jc_mck Před 6 měsíci +2

      Exactly! But to choose between the music scene in the 80's and now, I'd choose the 80's anytime. The musicians back then were good looking, well-dressed, and weirdly creative.

    A point of trivia: Duran Duran was Princess Diana's favorite band. On a different note, after hearing of Ty's imminent departure I've been wondering if giving him a musical send-off of songs from bands he likes would be something you'd consider. You seem to do four songs on the day you record, so here's my suggestions: Al Stewart's "On the Border", (some will say "Roads to Moscow", but the theme's a bit dreary for this occasion); Ambrosia's "You're the Only Woman", (which would round-out their three biggest hits); "Never Surrender" or "Hold On" from Triumph (and I DO think Ty could rock that Rik Emmett hair style, lol); and the finale could be Kenny Loggins beautiful album version of "Celebrate Me Home". And being we WILL celebrate him back when he returns, you could play the live version then. Just some thoughts...Pam in Detroit

    This was the first piece of music I ever bought, on LP from Sam the Record Man in Toronto when I was in Grade 9, along with Van Halen's 1984. Kind of a weird choice, but they both were ear-candy to me.
    Also, the name "Duran Duran" is the name of the villain in the movie Barbarella.

    DD had an awesome mix of styles that made them- them. It was rock guitar, mixed with funk bass, atmospheric keyboards and samplings all tied up in a pop music bow with a singer that was more of a poet at heart. there were funk bands, there were rock bands, there were electronic and pop bands all around this time... but DD was the only band I know of that incorporated all of it into their sound. it was considered pop-dolly bubble gum music at the time, but I believe history has now shown this was actually genius songwriting.

    Written by Duran Duran. This is the re-mix. Produced by Nike Rodgers. He said that Duran Duran is heavily influenced by his band Chic.
    When Duran Duran was on a break, 2 groups spun off: 1 Andy Taylor and John Taylor were in Power Station 2 Nick Rhodes, Simon Le Bon and Roger Taylor were in Arena.

      *Arcadia, but yes. Roger sorta floated between both groups (he provided some percussion for Power Station)

    Growing up in the 80s I was never a big Duran Duran fan despite their popularity. It wasn't until some of their later releases like Ordinary World and Come Undone that I really grew an appreciation for them.

    Although Duran Duran was not one of my favorite groups growing up in the 80's, they were huge.

      It would be interesting to hear, see, or read comments from Duran Duran members and the decision makers at MTV in the early 1980s. In some ways, it was like the popularity of Duran Duran helped propel MTV forward. However, without MTV, the band would have only been largely relegated to growing popularity from the radio, concerts, TV performance programs/talk or chat shows, and maybe teen magazines. Duran Duran would have been a popular band without MTV based on their music, but getting played in super heavy rotation for the peak years of their career did not hurt them. It also didn't hurt MTV to play them so often in the age before easily available VCRs.

    The album version is great. Nothing wrong with it. I prefer it over the remixed version. It's worth checking out their latest single, Black Moonlight. It's really really good. I've been a fan since 1982 and they're still killing it.

    This song played in Better Call Saul when teenage Kimmie’s mother picked her up after she got caught shoplifting jewelry. It didn’t sound any better then than it did tonight.
    This was just not good. I don’t tolerate Duran Duran very well…… except for one song. I love Ordinary World. I was digging around CZcams one day and it popped up as a cover by Adam Lambert. He’s not my cup of tea but it had been a long time since I heard it so I listened. INCREDIBLE cover. His killer voice and arrangement made me fall in love with that song all over again. So, I do appreciate that contribution from Duran Duran.
