    Great content. I grew up with VWs and that led to a career in restoring vintage Porsches. Keep it coming.

    Great ideas on the powder coat!! I had a summer job at a factory that did powder paint, it was on a conveyor thru a room sized oven. Your solution is Genius!💥💥

    Good work on the powder, I got a old oven for free and its just died, out to find another small one ;) Hot flocking is a good quick way to coat them.

    MIke, your bug colors are all really nice. This looks more blue than a polar silver, and tbh, looks better than polar silver. Maybe I missed that episode, last one I saw you were working the area under the front windshield. I have a bunch of Type IV heater boxes and exhaust bits, I think this video came at the right time... I could try this pre-heat and power coat on those parts. Thanks !

    Hey Mike it would be best if you use some fiberglass resin in the cracks of the steering wheel it will keep it from coming back a whole lot longer.

    For those smaller parts, it might be better to buy a cheap toaster oven and coat them traditionally. For parts that are too large for a toaster oven, try heating them in your kitchen oven to 500 degrees, then run out to coat them outside quickly. I’m going to try a toaster oven on some front end parts, and a hot coat on brake drums heated in the kitchen… just gotta make certain they are clean with no chemicals first. I think drums will keep their heat long enough to get them sprayed. Since I’m only gonna coat the fronts, I can put them on a piece of metal in the oven and coat them on that same metal… no need to hang them up.

      silver requires hot coat....I think chrome does too. Yea really easy to use the torch though. I think partly it is the powder gun not an even coat. I dont know really. Pre heat everything before you do it. Heat it up and let it cool then coat with powder this removes contamination.

      I used a laser thermometer and it was the same temp. problem was the spray gun not even. Probably with a professional gun setup I could have sprayed that more even and gotten no orange peel

      propane grill sounds like a good idea. I just dont have any space for anything to put it inside the shop that is the reason I wont buy an oven.

    I repaired the damage to my Bakelite steering wheel with epoxy and body filler and then painted it with an epoxy enamel. It looks like new months later, and cost next to nothing to do.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  Před rokem +1

      yea if you blasted anything you could powder coat it. you can use a larger torch.....the roofing ones. just dont get it too hot or it will warp use a temp laser and get it around just under 300 degrees.

    That car’s paint was never that nice even back when it left the assembly line in 1954 😉. I’ve seen a gentleman on another channel redo the steering wheels by cutting through the cracks and filling them with two part epoxy.
