I go into detail in step by step format, explaining one of the most effective carp fishing bottom bait and wafter presentations but with one difference that is guaranteed to catch more carp! My rig has changed over the last year or so and I've made a difference in components which seems to have upped my catch rate and improved hook holds 100% Hopefully this will will help you catch more carp too!

    I've used this rig for the last 2 years. I've had multiple carp - many over 20, a 32 and a 35.5lb (uk). Probably caught over 120 fish and missed about 5 takes and had 1 spit the hook at the net.
    This rig works in any lake and condition.
    THANK YOU FOR SHARING!

    One question why do you pierce the shrink tube and pull through the hook link material? What is the diff to just coming out if the tube normally? Thanks gareth

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  Před 5 lety

      Gareth Hughes thanks for your comment mate and thanks for watching. The hook link coming out the wall of the shrink tube does several things really. Firstly it helps the hook drop down when the bait is picked up as the putty near the hook pulls the tubing down more efficiently this way. Also the hook turns quicker when the rig is tightened up due to the angle the hook link exits being more acute. If you try the rig the standard way and then like this and try the palm test you’ll see what I mean 😉

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  Před 5 lety

      David Fisher thanks mate and yes definitely a wafter would work perfectly with this rig. I’d recommend having the ring opposite the barb or even opposite the point for the mechanics to work properly. You could even do away with the ring altogether so the hair comes out near the eye of the hook 😉

    • @tombee4667
      @tombee4667 Před 4 lety

      No:
      A wafter on a blowback rig will end up all over the shop when the carp tries to eject.. With wafters, same as pop ups, you should be on a D rig presentation with the bait tight to the hook. I hate wafters personally, they are massively overrated and waft up and out the way too easily when there's a feeding fish present. I use one only with a bottom bait as a ''semi wafter'' lol

    • @robertperkins923
      @robertperkins923 Před 3 lety

      Depending on the depth of weed, but pretty much agree with the above above, a helicopter rig using thinking anglers C-clips in 6lb, coupled with korda safety beads. The top bead will pop before the lead does, so in the event of a fish weeding you up, you can pop the lead through applying pressure, but god forbid you get cut off while the lead is still on, the fish can still use the lead as intended to pop the top bead and rid itself of the leader. I'd suggest using a chod rig and a scattered baiting pattern of 15's so they hang up in the weed that your fishing in. As a side note, I've happily chucked a 4oz lead 70yds on the 6lb C-clip

    Tie one up with a longshank and it flips quicker 😎

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks for your comment. I agree mate long shank hooks turn way faster. However, long shank hooks, in my experience, tend to lead to hook pulls and mouth damage as the extra length of shank adds leverage during the fight. The shrink tubing being 1.5cm on this rig is quite long to emulate a long shank but is flexible so that it can't lever the hook out or damage the carps mouth. Most situations I'm currently fishing involve snags etc so you have to play the fish harder so I prefer the rig set up like this. If I was fishing open water with no snags I might go to a long shank as you can take your time with the fight and not risk pulling the hook.

    • @robertperkins923
      @robertperkins923 Před 3 lety

      I am going to try this, I've been using similar as longshank are banned on my current water. But I do agree with using the longshank for it to be more effective, but never under a size 6, anything under can tear and pull, I personally prefer 4's, I've not had a single hookpull (barbless or barbed) in donkeys years, but it has to be coupled with the right lead arrangement, a heavy (I use 4oz) semi fixed inline running lead or inline drop off, swivel leads are what cause the problem imo, I can only presume the "play" in the lead arrangement allows the fish to shake the hook from the point it pricks on the bottom lip into weird parts of the mouth, before the actual weight of the lead comes into play. I have torn a total of zero mouths with them, and nailed in the sweet spot on the bottom lip every single time, it is my go to "get that bite in the net" rig👍

  • @paulmason9189
    @paulmason9189 Před 5 lety +1

    In my opinion the palm test isn't necessary, having a hook that drops down when picked up is far more beneficial to getting a hook hold.

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  Před 5 lety

      Not everyone agrees with the palm test I know but in my opinion it's the best way we have of testing whether our rigs turn when the hook link is tightened. I've tried it with other versions of this rig and this version definitely turns so much quicker and more consistently. It gives me confidence and I think thats important with any rig and it certainly catches fish and gives me great hook holds. Also the hook drops down as you can see in the video so either way it's a winner!

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for your comment by the way, Im always interested in other peoples opinion especially when it comes to rigs, I find it fascinating trying to constantly improve them

    • @paulmason9189
      @paulmason9189 Před 5 lety +1

      Agree with the confidence thing. You have both things going on so it's a double whammy. I've always found that it's where the hair stop is along the hook shank ( i.e opposite the barb) that determines if it falls into that hooking position, or not, rather than a out turned eye. Thats why I've never been one for having the stop on the bend, the hook is always upside down, when picked up. Anyway, good video and keep them coming.

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  Před 5 lety

      Yeah that's true the position of the hair on the shank affects the dropping of the hook. Also, have you tried loosening the fibres of the uncoated section of braid by rubbing between your fingers? This makes that section of braid much more supple and allows the hook to drop much faster. Also do this on the hair to make the bait move more naturally. In my opinion rigs with swivels etc like the ronnie, offer no advantage over using braid as a braid, if supple enough, will turn faster than a swivel anyway

    • @paulmason9189
      @paulmason9189 Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah, totally agree with what you're saying about rigs that are relying on swivels for movement ( except chod). I part the fibres at the hinge section of my multi rig and it swivels just as freely. I tend to whip a dental floss hair to the hook shank, when needing to mount a bait that way, so the fibres are naturally loose.

  • @simongoodwin3543

    I have nothing against these people making videos but I have to ask, why does this guy constantly keep looking at the carps tail, has he got a script to read from hidden there it’s comical and annoying at the same time. Also when you describe the rig and the hook with out turned eye etc etc what your saying isn’t actually true or correct, you do the palm test and it takes a fortnight to turn are you serious???
