Yes SA will become Afrika’s biggest economy once again and the Rand is more stable than the Naira. SA’s economy is hampered by power cuts but we are working to fix that. But I agree in the end what matters is not who is number one but that we are all seeing the difference in the lives we live.
It makes no difference if an economy is number one but there are endless power cuts, poor health care, insane crime, poor infrastructure overall and others. If we can develop our continent as Europe has done I think we can say we are number one as a continent, at least to ourselves.
We still have a long way to go. Remember people leave their countries for a reason, Nigerians and other nations come to SA for a reason but if Nigeria and other Afrikan countries get so well developed that we don’t leave our countries then we have achieved more than being “number one” economy.

@@jyde50 😩🥹🙃😁 But we have held it for years what makes you think this time around it will be 3 months max?. Hehe. But it’s all good. As long as you did consider what I wrote when I put aside the number one spot position.
We need people’s lives to change, if an average person doesn’t see what that “number 1 GDP” spot does in the everyday life then it won’t matter. We need quality roads, water, railway services, affordable and even free education, affordable/free healthcare, affordable housing, reliable energy, less to no crime, more political corruption prosecutions, new investments which will put our countries to another level. SA has a lot of those things, we do and Nigeria is struggling with them. Not to say we have them all because crime, corruption, unemployment and unreliable energy is what’s dragging us back. That’s why I am saying if an average person doesn’t see this “no1 GDP” it won’t matter to them.
But to your point, yes maybe Nigeria will forever be number one but if it will rely on oil only to be number 1 then that’s a bad investment to hold on to since even Middle East countries are diversifying themselves.

Great Discuss. Good point about the largest economy label. Great for marketing but what matters is what is happening on the ground. Are the necessary reforms, policies and strategies being put in place to attract and retain more FDI? Are the economic conditions creating an enabling environment for local businesses not just multi-nationals or opportunistic local and foreign business entities capitalizing on loopholes in the system? These are some of the pertinent things that every country in Africa needs to focus on.

    1. You play politics of tribe - Only Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba can rule Nigeria
    2. You play politics of religion - Muslim Imams determine who rule the country and xtian leaders prophesy the economy, currency and sell olive oil
    3. You play politics of class - The political, religious and traditional leaders only care about their pockets. Despite the desperate situation that Nigerians are in, these class of people only care about their pockets.
Do you listen to a news anchor that says she is "... a follower(fellow) economist and observer of markets", she is asking if it does really matter who is the larger economy and also said that there's no change on the ground. Are things not getting worse and worse for Nigerians. This is it. Politics of class.
    4. I can go on and on
Did Tinubu promise anything before the election? No. Has he floated any economic agenda? You tell me. Has he ever spoken to the people, apart from reading independence day script? No. Does he know where he is? You tell me.

@@mudiagaoneil1384 brother, right from childhood I have always prayed for unity in Nigeria and even after leaving Nigeria, I have always worked for that.
But now I see that that is can never happen. Nigeria can never unite and therefore can never move forward. So what you suggested is the best and only option on the table.
There would have been hope if the Yoruba had joined hands with the rest of the country to blunt the Islamist agenda of the Hausa/Fulani. But the Yoruba instead chose to work with the Hausa/Fulani as junior partner in their relentless plan to choke democracy and progress in Nigeria.
The only way forward is for the rest of the country or SS/SE to break away, so Yoruba can stay with their master, the Hausa/Fulani, and express their love for each other fully. They share many things in common; Islamic religion, deep tribalistic orientation, inordinate quest for power and control, hatred for Igbos and grouping every other person as Igbo.

It's beyond comprehension and abysmal that NGR's economy had been overtaken by South Africa. The ®️ New Markets-B2B2C-i ©️ ™️ pioneered by me, and backed by new global signature products valued more than the GDPs of NGR and South Africa combined 💡

It was a no brainer. You cannot have a culture of graft and corruption in every sphere of the country and expect growth. You cannot continue to steal from your profits, other countries are consolidating on their industry gains - how will they not grow.

Dear Brothers & Sisters. Stop fretting about these useless indicators & lets focus on improving the lives our peoples in Africa. This is nothing new, Nigeria 1st overtook SA as Africa's largest economy in 2014. Then Nigeria fell back to No2 in 2016 until 2020 when it overtook SA again. Now SA is back up & will again be overtaken by Nigeria or potentially Egypt in the not so distant future. Our collective task is to build every corner of our continent such that it shouldn't matter who's no1 because Africans benefit everywhere.

As a South African, Julius Malema and EFF with their continuous flip flopping for political attention and their proven not to work communist economic and political policies not to mention their general stupidity around how the real world works mixed in with their despicable racist attitudes are the absolutely the biggest threat to South Africa's future.
Intelligent South Africans will not vote for him.
Thankfully Julius Malema will never be President of this country. The ANC is already on the cusp of turning South Africa into a failed state.
If Julius and the EFF get into power they will be even worse and send this country down the toilet in 6 months.
