How Africa’s Richest Billionaires Make Their Money | Forbes

- The fortunes of Africa’s wealthiest people have rebounded slightly in the past 12 months, reversing the decline in their fortunes from a year ago, though they are still off their all-time highs. The 20 billionaires on the 2024 Forbes list of Africa’s Richest are worth a combined $82.4 billion. That’s up $900 million from last year’s $81.5 billion.
The continent remains one of the world’s toughest places to build - and hold onto - a billion-dollar fortune, as global investors remain leery of its stock exchanges, businesses struggle against strained economies, poor infrastructure and volatile exchange rates, while changing political winds can make, boost or bust private fortunes.

Dangote and adenuga are dragged down by the depreciating naira. If they had a more stable currency they'd be roughly 50-60 billion dollars
That's very true if the naira was stronger even the average Nigerian would be living a decent life
@icetrip2417 well naira is still depreciating they wealth will downfall.
And more people like Elumelu, Awosika, Stanley Ekeh, would have made the cut. Devaluation of naira is holding it grip not only on the poor and average Nigerians - but also the rich are equally taking a bite.
Not true. They have fixed assets, unaffected by the tumbling and unstable Naria.
@@kiuk_kiks much of their wealth is tied to the stock market whose price is in the naira and certainly not a fixed asset
Africa just needs more innovators to compete globally
The inequality in South Africa dou is INSANE
the interesting failure of south africa has been the inability of the ANC to keep the economy growing at 4-5% & empowering upcoming black entrepreneurs and industrialists. based on SA's incredible infrastructure & world-class institutions, young black south africans would've been thriving now
@@lm_b5080anc was corrupted by rich white elitr who bribed politicians to protect their wealth and rule on soith africa. apartheid still exists its just less visible and violent now
@@lm_b5080 but they arent and its mostly due to the huge fkin ANC corruption with them giving family members positions they arent qualified for which destroyed the electric infrastructure basically
I rather be a humble pessant that be a rich billionheir in any country.
The Oppenheimer family doesn’t have a “control“ spot in the Diamond industry. They have a monopoly.
they never tell tge truth, they always tone down things
Richest people in South African just notice how their fortune comes from a family generational wealth.
and this says something.. maybe that black people dont know how to keep generationzl wealth? cause why are most of them first generation billionaires while the white people pass it down.
Beautiful. Only if the Naira stay it ground. Dangote and Adenuga would definitely be far ahead on the list.
The Naira will never be great until the power sector is fixed. Nigeria cannot grow without stable electricity.
My name is Nick and i am from ASIA ................ These incredible individuals are an INSPIRATION to my LIFE. They are from places that are not easy to survive, but they built their way up and has shown this world how their presence is positive and helped so many people and even possibly carry their country out of poverty. All of them - i admire Alike Dangote.
Very motivational 🎉 I'll be on this list one day 🙏

Insha'Allah. So plan and work toward it, but chase a problem and solve it then the money will chase you. Africa has a lot of potential. Many will come. Please be of the good ones.

I HAVE INCURRED SO MUCH LOSSES TO TRADE ON MY OWN,I TRADE WELL ON DEMO BUT I THINK THE REAL MARKET IS MANIPULATED.
I always advice new members to have an orientation on how it works before getting involved. Trade offers more benefits than just holding.

you must have these things in mind
1. Have a long term mindset.
2. Be willing to take *risk*.
3. Be careful, if you're not spending to earn back, then stop spending.
4. Never claim to know - Ask questions and it's best you work with an assistant.
The wisest thought that is in everyone's minds today is to invest in different income flows that do not depend on the government, especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in gold, silver and digital currencies (BTC, ETH. stock, silver and gold)
When it comes to Trade, I can confidently say that bitcoin is the best option. But most people think it's all about buying and leaving it to rise but It takes a lot more you need to trade it to earn daily.
As an algerian there way more than 1 billionaire in algeria. I used to live in one of the money laundering cities and the amount of money there is just unfathomable. that's without talking about the politicians who stole 2 trillion dollars in the past.
I'm really much impressed with your personality here. And your posts are so interesting..
Can't wait to be on the list
Believe, do your best and you gonna make the list

I trust Bloomberg billionair list more than Forbes list. Dangote is worth more on the Bloomberg list which I believe is accurate. Dangote just finish his Oil Refinery and Ferterlizer Plant with 70% of his own money. Profit from his cement factories arround Afriica and Nigeria were put into those project.
I will be the first Zambian billionaire

Still not stable power supply in Nigeria even though some of the richest men in Africa come from Nigeria. What a shame.
Is there a stable power supply in your country? Name one billionaire in your country. I bet you got none! You should be shamed of yourself instead because you can not even name your country so we drag it.
We need to be honest about those white europeans who claim to be south africans and are on the forbes list because of apartheid 😊
If there black Americans and black English then there can be white South Africans, there were whites there also before apartheid
@@AJK17.5 but these ones benefitted from torturing and stealing from blacks. I don't want them on the list
Congratulations Nigeria ❤
It's not your money😂😂😂
Over the next hundred years indigenous Africans will completely populate this list, foreigners shouldn't have too much power in Africa.
What 'foreigners'? Literally all of these men were born on Africa.

"and family" is usually a common phrase when talking about wealth in Africa. There's need for better distribution of wealth. If America has tens of billionaires then there should be millions of opportunity for growth when it comes to "a dedicated nobody". And another thing is that most of the wealth form this high net worth individuals come from natural resources (or are included as)
Have self respect make your own wealth and stop cry for other people's hard earned profits.... Socialism is for lazy people.
Whats Eddie Murphy doing on the bills at 10 seconds into the video?

where is Mohammed Al Amoudi??
I will join the list soon
😂😂😂😂😂
forbes should create a list of billionaires with liquid cash stock prices networth can be manipulated and its not real cash
That would be so hard can keep cash in your house
Forbes doesn't have access to their private holdings. All they can do is estimate their holdings.
Soon i will be on that list
Did you make it yet?
Elon Musk and Bernard Arnault are South Africans, so why are they not in this list
Because Bernard is French, born in France and made his money in France as well.
Bernard Arnault is French with no connection to South Africa and Elon musk does most of his business in America and is also an American citizen so it’d be more fitting to put him on an American list even though he is a South African citizen
Even Tope Awotona and Bayo Ogunlesi are Nige-rians, but not on Africa's billionaires list.
This list is a record of the past 😅curious what the $trillionnaires of the future will be doing, especially with rose of AI
I hope he says there for a good while.👊🔥
I will br mentioned as a billionaire!
Amen
Amen me too 🙏🙏🙏
Oh
Ghana are part
And where is Abdul Samad Rabiu of nigeria?
May be he communicated to Forbes not to be included.
He's included, but 'only' worth $6.4 billion, so he doesn't make the top 5, he's #6
What about Sam Matekane the richest man in Lesotho
😂😂😂😂
The naira devaluation messed the Nigerian billionaires up , they could've been worth atleast 50b$ upwards and Nigeria would've had atleast 10 billionaires in $ but regardless
I am going to be on the list in the future ✌🏻
You won't
They become a prince and write you an email

Why Elon musk isn't in list?
The same reason the owner of calendify isn't cuz they created their wealth in usa with us citizenships

He doesn’t stay in Sa but his from SA
Forbes is still relevant?
where are the Batswana. It's fine I will stand for them one day
South Africa is technically representing Botswana. Patrice Motsepe is a South African Tswana.😂
Ote$❤
You forgot to mention Elon Musk. He is African too.
His business is outside Africa
Billionaires in Africa know why Africa is poor but they keep quiet...the reason a person like Dangote is so rich is because he pays little to import products from foreign countries needed in his operations. While his businesses provide meaningful jobs for those who work for him...we neen more business widespread in Africa so people can earn money...the high Tariffs make it impossible for major companies to start businesses in Africa...the ones that have are in bed with our politicians just like Dangote. They know yet they watch us suffer.
Doesn't Elon Musk count?
What’s also interesting is how they spend it
What do u mean by how they spend?
