- Not even a third of the way through the year, and already we have my second brand new game for the channel. This time it's Rusty Dagger by Table Salt Games. Rusty Dagger is a solo adventure miniature game, a little like the old choose-your-adventure fantasy books. Coming it a price of a whole two dollars from DriveThru RPG, it comes in a handy 'zine booklet format. Each booklet is made from a single sheet of paper. The first booklet goes over the rules, the second character creation, and the third is the first adventure that we will be running through today, Spire of the Golem.
Having the necessary miniatures already painted and at hand, the only thing I needed to do was make a battle grid that the game uses for its combat encounters. That done, the adventure awaits.
Following his disastrous attempt to steal chimera eggs, Raskin the Reptile, former mercenary captain, is drowning his sorrows at the local tavern, The Rusty Dagger. There he hears tales of a mysterious and by all accounts unlooted enchanted tower that just appeared in the countryside. Low on cash, morale and a respect for the property rights of magical real estate, Raskin sets off in the hopes of discovering fortune and glory. Or at least enough loot to pay for his next few meals in town.
So check out a new game on a new board with some old models. Leave a comment below if you have any questions, observations or concerns. And shout out to @worldofwargaming and @IthaquasBane for the heads up about this one. - Hry
This was cool. “Snake Raskin, I heard you were dead”.
Yeah, he gets that a lot.
Loving the paint jobs on those zombies. The albino gave me a chuckle
Thanks. I’ve tried a lot of different formulas for zombie skin, and to be honest I haven’t found one I’m totally happy with. But if it looks good to you guys then I’ll call it a success.
Oh, I'm getting this game. Feels like a really good starter for solo gaming and for a painting project. Thanks for sharing!
I agree, and you are welcome.
Interesting game and a fun video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. I enjoyed it, and so I think there will be more.
Great game, like the combat mechanics.
I like them, too, and I was a little unsure going in. But I think they do what they set out to do in a fun, simple way.
Boo, @19:50 that feels like a stretch. lol
Since you can't engage diagonal, feels like that is you moving away. (Still cheering for the reptile, not to worry)
Hmm. You may have a point. The rules say you get an opportunity attack when you move out of a space adjacent to an enemy. I figured I was ok, because I was still adjacent, hence not moving out of an adjacent space. But I suppose it could be read as I was in an adjacent space, and I was moving out of it, so I would get an attack. I think the easiest thing for me to do in the future is just avoid those kind of maneuvers.
for some reason the first part with the 3 zombies took forever to beat. I was alone, no Alandale. Swordmanship +2 and the throwing spear... But then the second part with the rats I ended untouched and quickly. Maybe I need to play it again and see if i did something wrong or is the game just swingy like that?
I think you probably did nothing wrong, and that it is just swingy like that. I watched a couple play throughs beforehand, and it seemed like some of the combat encounters really could drag on. It’s one of the reasons I went with the +3 swordsmanship, to see if it could break through the grind, even if it meant I would get hit more often.
So I have to ask, what if there are more enemies than initiative tokens. Do these "extra" enemies still get activated in a given round, or is the enemy group limited to 3 activations. (Assuming of course that they have not gained another initiative token due to some event, etc.)
My understanding is that only three enemies would activate. If I keep going, it will come up in an adventure or two.
