A great video and a great setup. I really like the idea of having a tarp to spread out over the top of the whole setup to block the rain; we go to northern Maine every year and it can rain for days. By the way, I drive a silver 2014 Tacoma with a Leer cap and a Bedrug so it's funny to see so many similar rigs - I guess great minds think alike.

I have a Napier truck Bed and then the ground part as well for some living space as you have with your side tent. I loved it. ARB awning comment. Have been using a 2.5 x 2.5 in Aust for 3 years. generally ok but problem
is if you use the ARB drop down delux awning room you will find that the awning
room ( 8kg )tends to bend the horizontal swing out arms. We told
an ARB shop about this problem
    whilst traveling interstate
about the issue and asked to speak to a technical ARB person. Unfortunately the sales staff at
the Glossy showroom said NO NO No way
the poles bend ( despite have two bent poles of ours in their hands.
Reluctantly they replaced them and when it a happened again we approached ARB
in another state whilst on the road traveling
with some very convivial feedback and got the same result excuses excuses excuses
except this time they said 'stiff luck buddy' and no replacement so we bought
    more poles from them.
So we just STOPPED using the Drop down delux awning room and eventually put it into storage at the back of our garage
and we continued to use the awning but guess what NO PROBLEMS
WITH THE POLES SINCE WE STOPPED USING THE AWNING ROOM..
it is clearly apparent that the weight of the drop down awning is just a bit too much for the
awning . We are about to travel again in
late 2020 and may try to use the awning
tent again and have now purchased two vertical poles to place under he awning
arms about a metre out from the vehicle to support the swing out arms .
Over the last three years we have purchased thousands of
dollars of gear from ARB. inc fridges, underbody protection plates ,COMPRESSORS
awnings, drop down awning tent rooms, recovery gear etc etc
    SUMMARY
genera quality of ARB gear ok
price point isexpensive but generally ok
BUT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WILLINGNESS TO TAKE A BIT OF
CONVIVIAL FEEDBACK FFROM AN ESTABLISHED CLIENT
    ABSOLUTELY LOUSY.

    • @OffGridBackcountryAdventures
      @OffGridBackcountryAdventures  Před 5 měsíci

Hi Alexis, that's actually the weakness of this awning room. High winds tend to bend the awning poles so as a work-around I created a few DIY guyline tie-off points to help the sidewalls stay in place when high winds hit camp. I also put in a small stove jack for my Trekker Kni-Co Stove for the shoulder season. I'd recommend this as a good side room, with a few alterations it will be able to stand up to elements. Have fun out there!

Few questions (most about your podcast): When you're (seldomly) camped where someone could potentially see/pass by your site, do you have some type of 'shower tent' for privacy when/if needed? How often do you plan/try to post new episodes of the podcast (I get them from the website so want to know how often to check for a new one)? Do you want/need subject or interview suggestions for future podcast episodes or do you already have enough for the foreseeable future? (I sent one several weeks ago, but not sure with everything if it was received or appreciated) How is Roux doing acclimating to being blind, or has it resolved itself as having been more 'snow blindness' than being permanent? And finally, has Barron stepped back from contributing to any of the podcasts or is/was he unavailable the past few months? I liked his viewpoint in the episodes he was involved with (as I do with your's and Craig's). Thanks if you read this and/or respond.

Face it toward the rear. So when open it covers your entrance. When the annex is installed it encloses the entrance. Fft

I prefer it the way I have it setup. It's easy for me to acmes my fridge in the backseat from the zip open door on the interior. I have it set up this way for a reason. ~ Brian
